A quality, low maintenance commuter and canal path bike, reduced from £519.99 with no weak points in the specification.

If you're after a bike to get around, carry stuff, and get off the beaten track a bit, hard to fault this Vitus at this price, especially with the brake specification.

An alternative is keeping an eye on gumtree. Plenty of bikes coming on local to me now. I just picked up a Cube Hyde Pro hybrid for £550 (rrp £1099) that is basically brand new

The only real risk with this is perpetuating bike theft. Always good to ask a seller for proof of purchase and/or any accessories, manuals etc that came with a bike.

I picked this up for £387 back in 2021 during the sales and have been using it since around London. I'm no pro, just a commuter but the gearing is perfect for this city. Been through the first 1500km with almost no maintenance (watch out for chain tension and the click box positioning calibration). Looks low key and I can recommend adding a set of mudguards. (edited)

Mine is the 700c version, so ended up buying the big standard LifeLine mudguards from CR's website for about £24, installed them and never looked back. Would recommend using thread lock on the screws.

    Perfect to convert to ebike.

I like the setup here. Nice and simple for commuting and leisure rides. Should in theory be very reliable.

This was nearing £300 a little while ago. You're paying summer prices here.

Pretty sure that was the old model being sold off.

Looks like this is the updated version of the Vitus Dee that Road.cc raved about, describing it as "possibly the perfect city runaround".
They did add the caveat "not one for long or hilly rides" but you can't expect perfection for £420. Add a belt drive, upgrade the hub to a Nexus 11 or a Rohloff Speedhub and THEN it'd be the perfect city bike. And it'd cost a minimum of £1800 (Cube Editor) and maybe over £4000 (Shand Stoater/Daunder). It's a brilliant bike for a great price.

    Only three gears though

Only 3 gears. Will that be enough?

For what? The Lake District? No. For everything else - yes. The front chain ring is small, so the low should be very low for hills. (edited)
