Deals should be able to be assigned multiple merchants
This would be a long-term project, but well worth it in my opinion. It would make the database of deals that HUKD is into one that is incredibly robust and it would allow users purchasing from a specific merchant to see all the offers posted on HUKD related to that merchant. Info should be at the fingertips of users and this would help achieve that aim.
Currently, deals can only be assigned to one merchant. While this is suitable for most deals, e.g. a discounted supermarket item, there are many posts that relate to two or more merchants.
Examples:
Megathreads example. If a user is looking for a cinema discount at Vue by looking at , they won’t find the cinema discounts megathread, because that is categorised under . So, if they don’t look any further, they might miss out on a saving.
Perhaps another user is better at searching for offers. They check the Vue merchant page - they don’t see a relevant deal post for them, nor do they see the cinema discounts megathread. They run a search for 'Vue' and start scrolling down the results. They still don’t see the megathread because the title doesn’t contain ‘Vue’ despite the author listing compiling a comprehensive list of Vue offers in the description. Again, if the user stops their search here, they might miss out on a saving.
It is not until they search vue and apply the filter for ‘Search in: descriptions’ that they’ll find the megathread. Not every user will be as thorough as this (and nor should they have to be, in my opinion).
For the cinema megathread, there are several merchants listed and each of these could be savings lost.
For some of the other examples I listed above, it would be useful to have a comprehensive understanding of a merchant’s tie-in history with other merchants to help us predict both WHEN offers will appear and WHERE offers will appear so we can make informed spending decisions. , for instance, frequently partners with Reach PLC newspapers for free family passes. Sometimes, these deals get categorised under National Trust, sometimes under . Perhaps National Trust reliably run the giveaway every quarter, but maybe someone can’t infer this because they’ve only gone to the National Trust merchant page and ended their research there instead of using the search bar too, so they go ahead with a BOGOF deal instead of holding out for a free pass deal.
Parent companies - will often run the same offer across multiple brands of theirs, e.g. discount off gift cards, kids eat breakfast for free w/ adult purchase. The merchant the deal gets classified under usually depends on info submitted by the author. E.g. this one is under Premier Inn but not under any of its sister brands. Again, someone could miss out. If it got posted for each brand, subsequent posts could be considered spam and so may not receive the heat it deserves.
