Its nice to see that Greggs have extended a helping hand to the folks in the front line keeping us all safe and doing their utmost to keep it all going.
From their FAQ Page greggs.co.uk/faq
Supporting our communities and the people on the front line
Greggs has a long-standing history of supporting the communities that we serve, and we’ll continue to help the Greggs Foundation donate unsold food to good causes and deliver the programmes that support those in need.
In addition, we’ll be offering all emergency service personnel and health and social care workers free hot drinks on presentation of their work pass. They are doing an amazing job, and this is the least we can do to support them.
Hope it helps someone.

sorted byMcD’s doing something similar too.
Unfortunately selfish scumbag trash hoarding will see some significant wins for Corona.
Thank you! They are under a lot of pressure as lots of staff on isolation and new measures too boot! You’ll get your vegan sausage rolls everyone just a few seconds slower We are all in this together it’s just nice to be nice eh
The stress and conditions for the measly basic pay per hour ( £8.50 ) that my fellow colleagues are having to put up with looking after the mentally and physically disabled and having to do as much as 70+ hours a week because of shortage of staff and not for the money but because we care makes us more determined to get through this when now and again we are remembered along NHS workers and the emergency services.
( now if only the tax man would show his gratitude for us all above )
It sure is a nice gesture - the more we can have of it to support our wonderful emergency service personnel the better. Good on greggs
Kudos to her and all the wonderful staff at Greggs and all other hospitality places - they do an amazing work - keeping the service levels going with a smile on their face. They deserve all the love and kindness
Yes they would you biscuit.
there are hundreds of thousands working in supermarkets. It would put an enormous financial strain on these companies.
And as much as I appreciate them right now, scanning items through a till can hardly be compared to front line emergency services.
Yes they deserve all these extra free stuff
And well done & thanks to our great emergency personnel
Ah never saw that. It’s nice to see big companies doing something good in this crisis
As long as corona doesnt win - I am all for it.
Good to hear mate - stay safe and thanks for the wishes.
I love my local greggs, they are always giving free cakes to us with drinks. They are so sweet
That’s not what I’m saying though is it? You are literally putting words in my mouth?
I'm saying that if they do open it up to them they would probably run out/close/go out of business very quickly. As I’ve said there are hundreds of thousands of supermarket workers. More than there are emergency service workers. In my local Tesco alone there is a Greggs situated in store. Imagine if all of the workers in that Tesco were allowed free hot drinks? What do you think would happen?
Do you have any idea how the economy works. Think things through logically. Not only that but you still cannot place shop workers in the same category as emergency services and if you really believe they are on the same level of importance then please have a rethink!
To be fair, as there are at least 930,000 people employed by Sainsbury's, Asda, Tesco, Morrisons, Waitros, Co-op, Lidl and Aldi in the UK that is a fairly hefty chunk to offer every day. And by giving somebody something you are not saying others don't deserve recognition.
Where would it end? So sure, the people on the checkouts, working in admin, management, cleaners, warehousing and stacking shelves are doing a great job, but those numbers don't include the delivery networks. And what about the companies who get the goods to the supermarkets - they are working flat out too. And the people producing the goods? The people keeping the power running, the people in the fuel industry ensuring those delivery vehicles can actually get to their destinations?
There are so many groups of people working hard, especially if they have colleagues off sick just now they may have to do the job of two.
Again, just because someone gives recognition to one group it does not mean others are not working hard. That's a bit like school sports day where nobody is allowed to lose, they all get a chance to win and everyone gets a medal.
You’re not wrong there. My son worked a 16 hour shift at the Coop yesterday because some of the staff were self isolating. He’s Type 1 diabetic but refuses to let that stop him.
We’ve been doing everything we can to keep our shops open and everyone safe but it has become clear that to help us all maintain social distance we need to go further and close all of our shops completely. So, we have made the difficult decision to close all of our shops on Tuesday 24th March.
First and foremost, thank you to our amazing colleagues for the hard work they have been putting in every day. They live and breathe the Greggs spirit, and we couldn’t have got through these challenging times without their unwavering positivity and cooperation. While we are closed, we will continue supporting our colleagues with full contract hours for as long as we are able although we will need to keep this under review as the situation develops.
Whilst our shops will be temporarily closed, our dedication to our communities won’t stop. We’ll continue to provide support to our local communities by distributing any remaining unsold food and offering support for those in hardship through the Greggs Foundation.
To our customers, thank you for your ongoing support – we know these are difficult and unsettling times, and through our community work we hope to be able to continue serving you, and your friends and families in some way.
Last but by no means least, a special thank you to the key workers at the front line of this crisis and all those who continue to work tirelessly to reduce the spread of the virus.
There are so many unsung heroes, and we’re in awe of you all.
Yup posted that yesterday
Yes hats off to them as well for doing the best for the community in these testing times. We are all in it together.
Sadly you are right - haven't seen the shops so empty and so ransacked ever - its crazy really
Pure scum, thankfully I have a conscience and the ability to cook and therefore me and mine will be well looked after. I hope the same for you and yours.
Absolutely - we have to be together in it, be kind and considerate for the others, thats the only way we can come out of this and ensure this isn't the new normal for a long time.
This is a store, very much like a supermarket. They have to stop somewhere. There are Greggs in Tescos and other stores all over the country so if they extended this to include shop workers they would go out of business within about 24 hours.
They are under no obligation to do this so big thanks for a great initiative.
We need our NHS
Well you sure told me
