Sorry, I thought the 'Hifi' tier would be the highest quality optio. Seems they've renamed things since I joined.

    - Tidal 'Hifi' includes only the 1400Kbps 'Hifi' quality
    - Tidal 'Hifi Plus' with their highest-quality 9000Kbps+ collection, plus the Atmos collections etc, is £19.99/month or £9.99 student.
    - Apple Music includes their highest-quality 9000Kbps+ collection and their Atmos collections in their £9.99/month tier, or £4.99 student.

Admittedly, it's very rare I'd notice the quality difference above 1400Kbps - but things like Atmos are very noticeable (usually great although I definitely prefer some tracks non-atmos)

It isn't mentioned enough that Tidal pays artists more per stream than most if not all other music services

I'm no expert but from what i've read some firms do check, but certainly Netflix can be done via VPN/Turkey etc on initial signup.

Just switched from Tidal to Apple Music now they've got lossless on (almost) everything. Three months three trial, and after that it's half the price of the Tidal Hifi tier. And it supports Alexa etc, unlike Tidal.

I think it's better. The only Spotify feature I miss with Apple is controlling playback from another device running the app. Feels like Tidal development has stagnated (Alexa support still US-only years down the line) meanwhile Apple Music has come a long way.

There's always a tidal offer. I don't think I've paid more than £10 for the 12 months I've used it. Brilliant.

Atmos is so hit or miss. It all boils down to how much effort went into the mastering! It feels like most tracks went through some kind of automated processing and they sound crap. Some, however, really showcase the potential of the format. (edited)

Roughly 'CD quality'. And plus is supposedly better than that due to the controversial MQA?

If only it was that simple... Sometimes it also depends on your hearing... I did a blind hearing test for friends and family out of interest ... With an mp3, CD and flacs files ...the results were varied inconclusive. I on the hand am a fan of Tidal hifi. I've had the others including qobuz (which would be my other alternative)... but would choose Tidal based on my ear. Even their UI is getting better,..

Last time I cancelled (a day or so before), I think it basically said you are good to go until the end of the subscription period. So some people immediately cancel. (edited)

Looks like the cheapest non discounted tier: Hifi, is now in line with other services with a lossless offering.

Apple Music are also doing introductory free 3 months.

I have moved over from Tidal to Apple music to try out the service. The Apple music app seems to be a bit slower and is a little buggy on Android. Searches are slowish. Recommendations are improving the more I use it.

Little undecided which one I'll go back to. I can use Apple Music on Google Assistant, but it is also buggy. I haven't quite sussed out how to get a specific album. GA seems to be trolling me, not understanding a word I say these days.

Partner is a student and there was an offer to get Apple TV+ with Apple Music, if that's the case we might just take up that subscription plan while we can.

It's all heating up in this space.

Tidal is great, but again searching is a bit of a pain. I enjoyed hitting artist radio and discovering other artists and music.

You can also use a Tidal app on Roku (I assume there is also an Andoid TV app). It's harder to navigate, but you get quite a selection of videos on there. For audio only I prefer casting/using the Android app. (edited)

Thanks signed up with Revolut. I used to use Tidal before but coming from Spotify, I found Spotify easier to navigate, so cancelled when my 6 month offer expired. Playing Tidal via my Galaxy S21 Ultra and my iPhone 12 pro max speakers, the sound is better the S21 Ultra. I'll try again tomo using ear buds.

Had tidal, but allowed the sub to expire. I’d have kept it if I could link to alexa or my car, but neither have connections whilst spotify and deezer do.

In the end I’m just using YouTube music now, as I get that with my YouTube premium - also doesn’t link to Alexa or my car, but I’m not paying any extra for it.
