Trekitt have a very good deal on for a great jacket, also with free delivery. This jacket "retails" at £160, but can often be found around £140-150 but go outdoors currently have it on offer for £135 so this is a very good price for a very competent jacket. It's Pertex quantum outer fabric with Primaloft silver insulation, wired hood, 4 external large pockets and it's lightweight and well made. It's classed as water resistant, so don't expect it to keep you dry in a downpour, but it should help repel a little water, particularly if you look after it. Available in black (limited sizes) blue and grey/black.

I have a smaller packable Montane Jacket for when I travel and I must say the quality and warmth is excellent (it has been my only jacket when travelling to Sweden many times (edited)

It’s a nice & keeps you warm but I barely wear mine anymore.

I prefer my insulation jacket to be separate to my waterproof jacket. When I had a jacket which did both it was a nightmare to dry.

The Rab Valiance and Resolution are classed as a waterproof down jackets, and get good reviews. I tried one on once but just didn't like the fit. The only issue with anything that is waterproof is that it will wet out in continuous rain and leave you soaking wet. If that occurs with down it won't be a pleasant experience. You'll struggle on the re-proofing process too.

I went down the Paramo route and am more than happy (edited)

Nice jacket. Sadly I'm at that stage where I've got loads of old jackets which all refuse to die

None of my waterproof jackets have any insulation. None of my insulated jackets are waterproof. That's how I prefer it, makes my wardrobe more modular as I can pair any insulated jacket with any waterproof jacket and its easier to dry an insulated jacket when its not attached to a waterproof shell.

Waterproof insulated jackets obviously do have a place but they are probably only good for more casual use.

It has a DWR which is a "Durable Water Repellent" coating, but that's only good for very light rain, and once it wears off it will need re-applying.

I have bought a couple of things from Trekitt (online) - just about the best customer service I have experienced on any online purchase. Not always the cheapest (though generally pretty close) - but definitely my best customer service experience. (edited)

I've had various jackets in and out of various baskets recently but I just don't need them!

I think I've got one down jacket, two synthetic insulated jackets, a softshell, a windproof, a lightweight waterproof and a big old Paramo waterproof. Oh and a couple of 'fashion' jackets and a leather jacket for poncing about in.

It's the problem with buying good quality outdoor kit, other than ultra light stuff it just lasts forever unless you really abuse it. Some of these are over 10 years old now. (edited)

Trekkitt are great, reliable and very useful. Purchased numerous items with ease.
If you're still unsure, they even have a video of the owner reviewing and wearing the jacket on the images. They review everything in detail, It's the best walking shop I've found.
As someone else also mentions, they have a shop in Hereford where they're more than helpful.

I have bought several times from Trekitt and rate them highly. However, I have not spotted any good deals from them for a long time. If you are concerned about buying from them you can always pay a little bit more and buy direct from Montane. They have a 25% off code JANAW25 that would bring the price down to £120 and they have all four colours in all sizes.

I also have this jacket in Antarctic Blue and am happy with it but have not used it a lot. I paid £99.83 for it three years ago from Webtogs.

Yeah, like you I have that dangerous combination of riding a motorcycle and being into hillwalking. Now I have two leather jackets, a heavy waterproof, a light weight water proof, a ballistic jean jacket all for the motorcycle and a lightweight down, a heavy duty down, a lightweight waterproof, a heavyweight waterproof, a synthetic insulated, a few soft shells for the hills. All are absolutely essential!! At least that’s what I tell the wife

Oh yeah for sure I’ll always carry a waterproof shell jacket on hikes I just meant now I tend to look for jackets that are waterproof too that I can also wear for everyday life where I don’t have to carry a spare jacket if you’re just after an insulation jacket for hiking this is great - kept me nice & warm up Nevis in freezing conditions back in November

I've had this same jacket for a couple of years now. It replaced a Montane Propane that I bought in 2002 and still can't bring myself to get rid of. Its a very light and extremely warm jacket with a great hood. Highly recommend.

What temperatures can I comfortably wear it in with say a t-shirt and jumper underneath?
