That's a great price for this Chromebook. It will receive updates to ChromeOS to the AUE date of June 2030.

Had a previous version of this with the MTK8173c CPU, and it was that CPU which let it down. As the N4500 is significantly quicker, it ticks all the boxes for me at this price point. Really like the build quality for a budget device, and the HD screen can always be plugged into a monitor, if more room is needed.

Was excited until I realised that it wasn't an i3, they just called it 3i to be misleading. It's a sloweron, no thanks!
    morgie's avatar
It's the Flex 3 and it's the Intel version, hence 3i......I appreciate not ideal naming. The N4500 is a decent processor and you need to remember this is ChromeOS, not a Windows. Decent balance of performance and battery life......plus fanless, which you certainly wouldn't get with a Core i3.....or at this price.

Can anyone tell me if this would allow my son to play Minecraft on it? He’s asked for a laptop for Christmas solely to play Minecraft on and I don’t know where to start!
    Masteryates's avatar
I'd look into Morgie's suggestion Alan, before going down the used Windows/Cex route. If you get a used Windows machine, it may only last 3 years dependant on the CPU, and not being able to upgrade to Window 11. On the other hand, this machine will be good until 2030.

Can anyone chip in and say how Minecraft runs on this Chromebook?
  5. energy80s's avatar
Could Linux be flashed onto this? Not interested in a Chromebook, but would be interested in a nice little (new) Linux laptop.
    morgie's avatar
If it helps, you can run the Linux terminal within ChromeOS to run Linux apps. See the video I linked to earlier about using the Linux functionality to install Minecraft - hotukdeals.com/com…363 (edited)

    Just got one in Shipley.
    4 left at 8:07am.

They had none out on the display, but had some back in the office when asked.
    lilbeastie's avatar
our Lidl only had a display saying "if you want a Chromebook ask at the till", they hadn't put them out, although all the other offers were on display as normal. I can see why though, the box for this is pretty small so it could easily disappear into a bag.

Our store had 4 in, and there were 2 sold when I left - didn't seem to be many folks interested. I did see a poor Lidl employee trying to load the 55" TV into a Smart FourTwo for someone though, who seemed confused as to why the TV wouldn't fit when the box was wider than the whole car!

    About 4 left in Kirkcaldy
Ask staff as not on sales floor
Hope this helps someone and many thanks OP

Is it possible to run MS Office applications on this natively and not through browser?
    morgie's avatar
No, they ended the apps, now supported through the browser. You could install an Linux office suite or use Google Docs if that can work for you.

I bought the 5i with i5 11th gen 8gb , 256g for ,£250 recently. This has Celeron and not even full hd screen. (edited)
    sheffield788's avatar
So you've purchased a better specs at double the price...I also have a better laptop than yours, but I've paid double the price you've paid for yours 😃.
This is a very basic laptop at a very small price. (edited)
  13. simba75's avatar
Would minecraft run like a dog on this ?
    xenophon's avatar
I doubt it would run that fast, maybe a tortoise.
  14. corred1964's avatar
Looks like a decent offer for a device with touchscreen & tablet mode, big price drop from launch where they were about £300.

Never going to set the world alight but will be OK for browsing & basic office functions. (edited)
    morgie's avatar
This model was closer to £200 at launch and we've seen ~£170 - £150 since, but nothing this low. Past deals: hotukdeals.com/sea…500

I've got this and as a browsing/media device its great. I wouldn't expect it to do much more. SkyGo is a bit hit and miss on some channels, there are settings tweaks that get it working but a bit of a faff. The form factor is great and battery life is good. Definitely worth the asking price.
    Masteryates's avatar
Any chance you can run the octane benchmark on yours? (make everything else is closed.)

Any idea if it’s available in NI, we come under Lidl Ireland so don’t get the same weekly deals as GB

If anyone want to see the pics here it is... I took this deal as there is plenty of time to return in case if I want to go for Windows one

    >Build quality is 9/10, Pro look & classy
    >Speed for chrome apps and vanilla OS is 7/10
    >Storage is plenty with chrome OS as it took only 18.5GB
    >Display is 8/10 though it's low res for the size it's punchy for 4k videos from YouTube and plenty of brightness
    >Sound 6/10
    >Performance on heavy load like 20 tabs of chrome whatsaap app calls and others Google sheet open it will become little slow so 7/10 for this spec
    >Can charge via USB-C and within 30mts 45%
    >Battery is amazing as I now understand chrome OS is well optimise than windows power hungry tasks so lasts about 7.5hrs of power usage with 80% brightness.
    >Apps all good so far with Google play store, but missing those windows apps, for kids this is plenty
    >Wifi speed is good, getting same DL/UL speeds as my MBP
    >Not working with Lenovo Active Pen2 but working with Amazon cheap MEKO 2-in-1 Stylus
    >Camera is 4/10 average for calls

Really good price for this and N4500 Heat
  22. RadiantFire's avatar
4 GB RAM ?! Barely enough to run most recent apps. Expect short lgas and freezes. You get what you pay for.
    morgie's avatar
    It's a Chromebook running a lightweight OS.

Last year Lidl did fairly well in terms of amount of stock of the ASUS they offered (just some confusion over the lack of stylus in the particular model they had) - hotukdeals.com/dea…900

Lidl don't do online sales in the UK
  26. lee.mills's avatar
Is this any good for just social media, netflix, YouTube etc?
    morgie's avatar
Yes, just keep in mind it's an HD (rather than FHD) screen, but really for 11.6 inches and at this price I don't think it matters.
  27. Dancinannie's avatar
Does anyone know if I could run Teams, YouTube, work online training? Thank you
    deleted2817902's avatar
Everything works in the browser. It is the apps of Android , some of them don't work on Android Store in Chromebook and some dont resize properly . (edited)

How does it work at Lidl, will this be online or do you go into the store for it?

Managed to get one. My local Lidl only had 6 supplied to them and the manager said that other local Lidls weren't given any! Ridiculous really.. Will sell out so quickly

Only 1 per person. Sold out in first 4 I tried.

Got one. Ask staff as not put out. Seems nice. 30 day no fuss return . So can try it out as a media player / basic drawing tablet

Nice finding voted Hot, quick question this one or for 20£ more for the Curries £149 Lenovo Flex 3i old Gen >>> with Windows? Any help please, does 4GB RAM and 64 Storage good for windows 11 How much windows 11 will take space in that 64GB or better to stick with Chrome OS?

    Thanks (edited)
    morgie's avatar
This hardware is great for ChromeOS.....I can't imagine the same can be said for Windows (and I wouldn't expect to pay more for the pain on the slightly older N4020 processer too) Perhaps someone who has tried on that spec. or similar can comment or check YouTube etc. (edited)
  36. AndrewYeh's avatar
Anyone seen a case for this, that lets you fold it back like a tablet. Without having the keyboard exposed on the back ? Does one exist ? Or am I missing something
  37. RustySpoons's avatar
Chromebooks are pretty amazing for multi users, when I go over my other halves parents I log in on their Chromebook and anything Google related I use instantly syncs back and forth, it's like having my own computer there.

Great deal and good to see an Intel CPU in there.

Does anyone else have faulty Right-click button
    morgie's avatar
You 'right click' by tapping or clicking with two fingers on a Chromebook. (edited)
