Similar to the offer they done at Black Friday (I got a few £ back due to price decreases), usually Amazon ask you to return an item and reorder rather than refunding price differences so this is an simpler way and guarantees you won’t be out of pocket if they drop the price (especially good for bigger priced items that they regularly price match competitors on).
Anything included in the Spring Sale is highlighted next to the product like below -
Why isn’t this standard practice? Beyond madness at this point.
PD2K79 Author
The amount of things I’ve sent back and reordered as they’ve refused to price match a significant price drop is madness - it’s must cost them so much having to deal with the return and re-delivery of the item.
I guess due to their constant changing prices they hope most people won’t bother to send items back most of the time?

This also happened on Black Friday, I bought a phone for £560 then received £60 back as it had gone down in price. Didn't even apply for the refund
xybp9
AKA a guarantee that nothing you buy will drop in price haha
jaguark
The items I had in basket went up in price as soon as sale started... so now even with the £5 off £20 voucher code they sent me, it will just bring price back to normal...
cameron.carter
If anyone needs to argue the policy with customer services, it's at the top of the page here:
I got a auto refund last time this happened as well but agree this should be the norm for at least 14 days after purchase
GS23
Sure but only if all online retailers have to follow the same rule
GregorskyDeals
Another Amazon way to scam you by letting your guard down..
barnehurst
Would carry more weight if Amazon actually reduced the price of anything..
Everything I've checked is either same price or more expensive than a week ago! (edited)

Finally. Should apply to everything. Just causing more strain on their returns department
ashmac
Remember when this was standard practice back in the day
herrbz
Automatic refunds? Don't remember that ever being the case.
randomandy
Just an FYI, I wouldn't believe it'll be automatic... Had to pester live chat about it after Black Friday, half a memory that the 'difference' went into my Gift Card Balance as well
Riyaal
So the next sale will be when prices will drop on April 6th?
plebbygiraffe
No it means these items won't drop but there will be new items on sale around the Easter weekend.
This is the same gimmick that Currys introduced with their pre-Black Friday deals. They know what the actual Black Friday deals will be, and because as any seasoned shopper knows, the same deals are found across multiple retailers, they can confidently state this offer because they know 99.99% of items won't change in price.
It is simply designed to be a near zero cost marketing tool to give you the confidence that you can buy now instead of waiting for Easter/Black Friday itself.
Hearnia_2K
All this means is that the same items won't drop in price between now and the 5th.

Whatever the opinion of Amazon, this is a nice touch. Why should they, or any other retailer offer you a refund of difference on a price that you were happy to pay? Do you go to the bank to demand your extra pennies if the exchange rate improves on your holiday currency? How about a new car 5 days before their end of month sales round up? You bought it, you own it, and say thank you rather than demand.
CurvedSlightly
I refunded Amazon the difference when the price went up the other day, they didn't say no.
tosh42
Is it just me or has this “sale” been rubbish with prices not much different from normal?
powerful_Rogue
Waited for the spring sale to see if the item I wanted would be in it - sadly it wasn't so I ordered it on the 27th, delivered on the 28th. Checked on the 28th and it had 15% off in the sping sale. After seeing this post I went on live chat and they credited the difference to my gift card balance.
louiselouise
Shame they don't let you have the original (sold by Amazon) price when it goes up within a day I've tried twice with Amazon today and thought they'd take pity on me.
prynolfc
Last time they did this offer i had to sit in a chat for ages to get them to own up to this even being a legit thing, coz i was owed a partial refund
Crossbow
Take the relevant screenshots so they cannot backtrack if it happens again.
daddybr00
If your account is in good standing with Amazon you can usually get them to credit you the difference by asking CS nicely, if in doubt refer to the time and cost of them processing returns, loss of sale, saving the planet, etc (edited)
KingCampo
Look out for some good deals on 6 April then!
BrianButterfield
I got a pallet full of their speakers, but they're making them impossible to sell as they've constantly been on sale. I swear they should be fined for saying "sale price" when its on sale all year round.
dave_gr
Can you clarify your comment? Where'd you get the pallet from? Are they Amazon branded speakers? Did you buy a pallet from Amazon and now you're trying to resell the speakers on Amazon?
RedmanDealer
With Amazon it does depend on the CS agent you get. Often I've had agents who are super helpful will refund me the full item price even if all I wanted was a replacement, or a missing piece. Recently I had one who was trying to make me go through all sorts of hoops for a warranty replacement that was 2 days out of their 30 day returns period!
Pricing offers like these are done to give confidence to customers that they will get value for their purchase. Without it, often people will just sit tight and wait for the next sale etc. All retailers do it at times.
sm9690
This is just a marketing tactic to get you to spend before the end of the first quarter
scuttle
That’s not what marketing is

I bought a Garmin Smart Watch on 24th March and when I checked it was reduced by £15
They wouldn’t refund the difference but told me I could return it and re-order it, I said that wasn’t very environmentally friendly but they didn’t bite .
I'm too lazy to return now it’s all setup and I’m happy with it! Was worth a try!
Gazzie
Reorder first and return the new one. I’m doing the same.
HoneyJamToast
I’ll be damned, I received emails from Amazon earlier this evening notifying me of my refunds, that’s £12 coming my way! Call me cynical but didn’t expect it to actually work.
I’ll still keep an eye out until 5 April for any further drops though
absami
I was wondering why Amazon sent me £22 although I didn’t return anything

Wow great deal posted thanks heat added 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
scottyjim
I bought a washer/dryer just before last Black Friday and it was reduced by £180 for Black Friday and a quick chat with Amazon customer service and the £180 was refunded with no problem
54M13
I don't think they wanted to go through the hassle of returning a washer/dryer. Smaller items they ask you to make a new order and cancel/return the older expensive order.
prateekm
doesn't apply for lightning deals though, as per CS. I bought something yesterday, which got reduced today in lightning deal, CS refused to refund the difference.. (edited)
ASHTON955
I be had this before i just asked if i could return the original item and re order. They then just refunded me the difference
Doyl
I bought some things last time this happened that dropped a bit and didn't get any refunds.

rectangularcuboid
Would have been good if it were a month or more, but a week is hardly any time at all, especially since Spring Sale is as low as the item is gonna get.
Chrissybh0y
How about a year ? They aren’t a charity buying anything at any price is a risk
Spidereater_Spiderman
Nothing to say!!
Spidereater_Spiderman
When I just tried to cool it it went up heat??

Happens if people vote at around the same time - eg: someone voting down and someone voting up (edited)

I purchased a SSD that got delivered on the 25th. I had a live chat with them about the price difference refund. The agent i chatted with didn't want to try at all and said it is not possible to refund the difference.
And said It's not Amazon policy to do so.
It was this Samsung SSD 870 EVO, 1 TB. Paid £81 few days ago, now in the spring sale it's £69.99
PD2K79 Author
Send it back and reorder - outside of this promotion they have no interest in matching their own prices
Gazzie
Ordered the 512 evo select card on the 26th. Had a massive “benny” with Amazon customer services that lasted over an hour on chat. I have ended up buying another card and will return that one for the original amount. They tried reducing my refund amount by £2.99, but I went ballistic.
Not worth the 20% saving as I’ve burst a few blood vessels in the process.
scuttle
You value your time at £2.99/hr?
csdt3
How is this a deal?
Franky_1971
The reason they haven't done it til now is because 50% of people won't know the price has dropped, of those who do know, 50% won't care. Of those who do care, only 50% will be bothered to return the item........ so that's 12.5% of customers. Personally, I find it a drag to return items and really can't be bothered if it's just to save a few quid!!
