'Hipflask-shaped DAC delivers high-quality sound on the move'

whathifi.com/reviews/ifi-hip-dac

4120583_1.jpgHip, hot and happening.
iFi's hip-dac is the perfect companion for music lovers on the go.

Not only will its hi-res specs make your tunes sound fabulous, but its hot, on-trend styling will make them look pretty amazing too.

Smartly dressed in petrol blue with a touch of copper, the go-anywhere hip-dac was designed to slip discreetly into your pocket BUT its cool look might mean you want to keep it on display.
4120583_1.jpgFor music lovers everywhere.
iFi's miniature DAC/headphone amplifier replaces the inferior DAC and amp in your smart device, PC or Mac. Simply connect the hip-dac via USB, insert headphones and away you go.

Relax with your favourite music streamer, Spotify, Apple Music or Tidal as the hip-dac delivers a sound brimming with bold dynamism and fluid refinement.
4120583_1.jpgSmall but mighty.
Whether you are curling up in Costa or on your commute, their hip-dac delivers hi-res music with flair.

Thanks to the Burr Brown chip, audio remains ‘bit-perfect’. Music, just as it should be.

The hip-dac supports hi-res PCM up to 384kHz as well as DSD256 and MQA as used by Tidal’s ‘Master’ tier.
4120583_1.jpgBalanced. Because you’re worth it.
Balanced audio circuits mean less unwanted noise.

The hip-dac boasts a balanced, analogue stage to bring you the best musicality for miles around.

It sports a 4.4mm balanced output for balanced headphone cables/connectors.

For those ‘hissy’ IEMs, use the 3.5mm S-Balanced. Enjoy all the benefits of balanced from your single-ended connection.
4120583_1.jpgFeel the Force…
Let it guide your actions…

iFi's small but mighty hip-dac sports PowerMatch – switchable gain.

Even on the go, adjust input sensitivity to match the level of drive to the load of your headphones.

Leave it off for those those ‘out and about’ IEMs and pop it on for on/over-ear types with relatively low impedance that require more oomph.
4120583_1.jpgIt’s still all about the bass…
xBass – their iFi optional sonic adjustment is still very much in vogue and addresses the lack of bass that’s often apparent with in-ears or open back headphones.

Boost that bass, and “bring the booty back” to your iEMs with the hip-dac.
4120583_1.jpgHip and always on trend.
iFi's in-house team has maxed out the circuitry with bespoke, easy to install firmware to bring you the joyous musicality of hi-res, native audio that suits your priorities and stays cutting-edge.

You will never be behind the times.
4120583_1.jpgLong may it last…
And with extensive battery life, you can take it out with you all day.

The hip-dac can join you at the gym first thing, take you out for lunch and keep your feet a tapping on your journey home.

hip-dac. Amazing sound. Stunning looks

Not clear how much longer MQA will be relevant. They have entered administration and TIDAL have recently said they plan to move over to hi-res FLACS. Tidal were MQA's main customer.

Can this be continually powered via usb whilst in action, I have x2 B/O play speakers connected via headphones on my tv I was considering this to bridge them using tv usb port to power? (edited)

This is still great. If you're a fan of MQA and want the full decoding you'll need the hip-dac 2. I've stuck with this and it is excellent.

So many people I know who have bought Ifi products have been enormously disappointed and ended up selling them taking a loss and buying something better. Most have bought a chord electronics Mojo 2. (edited)

Not me. Got an ifi zen Bluetooth receiver. Best bit of kit and great value. They consistently get great reviews.

Been using a iFi DAC connected to my computer for 5 years now. They are the best in the world at what they do.

    Not heard of Chord Electronics?

I use Bluetooth, it's lossless because sound travels over the air rather than through noisy metal wires.

    I hope that’s click bait
