I have this, it's naff. Doesn't charge enough via the Sun and I have it in a place that has the sun all day, well when we have sun.
I have to take it down every 3 months and charge it.
Image and sound is spot on. Definitely wouldn't buy another

I have the S40 and think the solar charging is pretty good. I think I had to manually charge it once during winter, and since then has kept itself going as you can see from the image

I have 4 x s40s and 3 of them never require charging, one (north facing) needs 1 x charge a year.

    Needs Homebase 3 though

It’s a solo cam model so can work without Homebase.

I am pretty much done with Eufy cameras. Looking to replace mine, the app is terrible.

Anyone reccomend any alterantives in same price bracket?

Could this be installed on a soffit, so above it is the fascia, I'm wondering if it would get enough sun.

Or would it need to be on the fascia so the top of the unit gets sun
    Rathore's avatar

I don’t think it will get much sun under the soffits.

Can this work with homebase 2?

From eufy website it seems to only work with Homebase 3

    Does this do 24hr recording?

    No

I have the doorbell and 3 cameras - probably one of the worst £400 spends of my lifetime and I’ve made plenty of bad purchases.

Seriously buy a cheap synology and a PoE camera

    Pointless comment without any explanation.

You will need to buy the licenses to use more than two camera with Synology surveillance station. Then again not every Synology offers free 2 licenses. 1 License is around £50.

Given the fairly recent scandals around their "no clouds" product marketing and end-to-end encryption, I personally would be reluctant to invest in Eufy devices.
Their initial handling of those concerns was pretty troubling.

I agree Eufy’s approach to zero cloud was wrong. But I don’t think there is any camera that won’t store snapshots to cloud and provide the rich notifications at same time.

I have the S40 , been great, never had to charge it , great picture and video quality

How many days is it going for?

    Thanks OP. Decent saving.

Lots of hate to eufy here. Got the doorbell and it's not bad. They have made a number of improvements and all those reports are from a while back.

Bottom line for me was I couldn't justify staying with Ring with their costs and also bad press on occasion

Same I replaced my ring cameras with Eufy.

Thanks - this looks a great bit of kit for the money. The only thing that puts me off is it only records when motion is detected. Do Eufy do similar cameras that always record?
    Rathore's avatar
    Author
I don’t think eufy has any battery operated camera that supports 24/7 recording.

My S40 works with Homebase 1, if that helps.

Damn. Literally just bought a wireless. solocam. This would have been better with the solar.

The solar will be poor on these i struggle with the 4w panel on the other cameras this is 0.9w (edited)
    nublets2k's avatar
Yeap it's not good at charging, a cheap panel from amazon works much better so will be hooking one of them up to it.

The camera itself however seems very good.

I need to upgrade my CCTV, need high quality continuous recoding with cloud storage.
Unfortunately I've had criminals attempting to intimidate me, and need to capture evidence incase I have to protect myself and property.
Can someone please help advise with what would be a solid option as there's so many it gets confusing.
Ive been researching a little this morning, hopefully some of you tech savvy folks can help

I would say reolink have best in price to performance ratio cameras. But motion notifications on reolink are not really great. So I would advice a combination of reolink and eufy/ring cameras.

Can this be viewed on a pc?
    deals_hunter_original's avatar
Eufy have a pc app, haven’t tried it so would look at reviews first.
  20. twiggy9999's avatar
Do these cameras and the Homebase still phone home to China?
  21. deals_hunter_original's avatar
I have the spotlight version, didn’t bother charging before putting up and the recent good weather has taken the charge to 100%.

But on cloudy days, the charge amount which is visible on the app is less and winter is going to be interesting.

Can anyone confirm whether this does work with the Homebase 2? I read somewhere that the footage was stored in the cam itself but my 2K doorbell stores footage in the Homebase!?!?
    Rathore's avatar

I’m using it with Homebase 3, not sure about homebase 2.
