I want to switch to Community Fibre from Virgin after their prices shot up.
I'm looking for 500mb, line rental and possible TV also (not sure how good the TV is)
I also have an existing WiFi Mesh (TP link) connected to the Virgin router so not sure if I can use that with Community Fibre or if its better to use their Mesh system?
    Thanks

I switched to 1Gbps Youfibre recently (despite still being in a virgin contract for the next 9 months - the door rep offered me that period for £1/m, first time I've ever bought anything from someone who's come to the door ). I have a TP link deco M5 mesh setup and to my surprise it was just a case of swapping the ethernet cable from the virgin box (in router mode) to the main deco hub with the cable coming from the Youfibre modem. The speeds aren't max from the hubs and they max out at 600mpbs, but that's down to the tp link M5 limitation on wifi5. I get about 1.3Gbps from the WiFi6 mesh node they gave me but I can live without that for now - ethernet speeds are max and I use ethernet for my mesh backhaul (by linking all my mesh hubs with ethernet cables) and plug in directly to my PC. Pings of 5ms and perfectly happy with it.

I've just started my training with them, seem like an excellent company so far.

Do you know if you can use your own router with this?

Position router centrally in your homes.

I was in the process of getting 1 Gig broadband using Quidco they offer £112 and was just about to fill out card details. I got call from community fibre rep, first I got him to confirm he's from the company by email. Below is what I negotiated.

First 7 months free then.. £25/month for broadband

    £5/month for unlimited calls (Normally it's £10/month)

    25x24 = 600 - 175 (7 months) = 425
    05x24 = 120 for home phone

    425+120 = 545 / 24 = 22.70/m effective.

    Seems a good deal.

That’s brilliant. I got something similar, but couldn’t negotiate on unlimited calls. I know, I know, you’ll call me young Padawan lol

It's a shame all providers don't do a map of their coverage. It would save so much time looking and applying etc

Been with them a few years now with gigabit, speed and stability is excellent.

I have also been with them for 6+ months now. Not had one outage in that time and managed to get a pretty good deal. Shop around and a lot of areas also have door to door reps too who get pretty good deals.

    Wow that’s quite something!

Find a rep in your area, especially if it's new. They'll be able to get you a few months off. I got offered 8-12 months free on a 2 year contract
  10. R8isGr8M8's avatar
Anyone know of offers for renewing customers? Has anyone received any discounts by saying they're considering leaving when the contract expires?

Mines due to go up in July from £29 to £59 I'm going to phone up in a few days and let you know how I get on.

Currently I get 125mb landlines that's never been used and tivo box packed away as use netflix only.

Virgin media and I both no I can't get same speeds from other providers so will see how I get on.

Every time I've asked them to lower the price they have.

Remember they increase their prices yearly. This is the reason a switched to Hyperoptic

Hope they are better once you get going than it is before they get going. We’ve had two engineers’ appointments but still no broadband! They sent the wrong engineering team out twice! If they can’t send out the correct team next week (3rd time), then i’ve half a mind to cancel. They seem a bit disorganised (poor communication between office and engineers and engineers and other engineers)!

for those with community fibre, how are they once installed and running? Is thee reliability good?
    scanmanps's avatar
Had the same issue, but got there on 3rd attempt, everything working well since installation, got an extra node on ebay to extend wifi, so far very happy

I’m currently with them, it’s been nearly a year and I hate it so much! The connection has been terrible, the router takes up 3 plug sockets and only 1 Ethernet slot. Any time I’ve complained about poor connection, I’ve been told to purchase xyz instead of coming to fix the issue. I can’t wait until this contract is over. Never again.

Still waiting for OpenReach to complete the infrastructure work in our area so service providers can deliver high speed fibre - maybe in 2026🤷. Meanwhile, Open Infra are in our area touting for sufficient interest to complete an infrastructure build themselves - if sufficient people sign up, will be able to get 900Mbps for £19.90 for first 18 months (via OAI provider Optyx Broadband).

Ok so we’re up and running with community fibre. 500mbps broadband for £20/month, £90 uswitch voucher and £10 set up charge. Also got a free node off the engineer so not too shabby. Hookef up child node to the parent node via telephone wired (full cat5 speeds) so we’re now getting full 500 upstairs and downstairs! Woo! Used our old child router from asus to extent wifi into the garden too where we’re getting just 90mbps due to limitation of wiring. Trying to sort out cat 5 wiring between the parent and child for this third node to boost speed to 500mbps. Ordered some cable tracers from amazon to help me trace the correct cable to the network switch!

so to summarise we are saving £5/month vs vodafone and we’re getting 7x the speed. No brainer! Setup is a mega faff as their organisation at community fibre is awful but once you’re up and running it’s all good.  (edited)

When do these people get to w4/Chiswick so virgin can get some competition
  17. abulkasam's avatar
Do you have to pay the £10 to keep your number, or can you keep your number without a calls package?
    hdhani's avatar
If you want to keep your landline and number you would have to pay the £10 extra per month.

Or you can keep your landline with your existing provider instead but that will probably cost you more than £10, which was the case for me as I was with BT and they were charging a lot more than £10 per month just for line rental.

Ok so i’ve been with community fibre for a month and no complaints. Connection is rock solid, latency low, and speed fantastic! Fibre to the home is the future!
