Twitter is shedding it's feathers and being rebranded to X

Twitter is being rebranded as X - x.com/ is already being redirected to Twitter.

Twitter rebrands to X as part of Elon Musk’s plan to create an ‘everything app’‘X is here! Let’s do this,’ CEO tweets, saying new app will incorporate audio, video, messaging, payments and banking

The tech billionaire, who took over the platform in October 2022, launched the new logo over the weekend after crowdsourcing ideas for users. He also reportedly informed employees by email that Twitter would become X, as well as redirected the domain X.com to Twitter.com.

Mr Musk said Twitter’s famous blue bird logo would eventually be phased out entirely.

Linda Yaccarino, who Mr Musk hired to be the chief executive of Twitter last month, confirmed the switch in a series of tweets late on Sunday.

“It’s an exceptionally rare thing – in life or in business – that you get a second chance to make another big impression,” she wrote.
“Twitter made one massive impression and changed the way we communicate. Now, X will go further, transforming the global town square.”

Ms Yaccarino described the app as the “future state of unlimited interactivity”, incorporating audio, video, messaging, payments and banking.

“There’s absolutely no limit to this transformation,” she added. “X will be the platform that can deliver, well... everything.”

Mike Proulx, research director at Forrester, said on Sunday that the move would further alienate Twitter’s original, and once fiercely loyal, user base.

“On the one hand, you can make the argument he would be getting rid of an iconic brand. On the other hand, he is signalling it is a new day for what was once Twitter and that the company is heading in a different direction with a different user base.”

Mr Musk said in a Sunday post he wanted to change Twitter’s logo and polled his millions of followers whether they would favour changing the site’s colour scheme from blue to black. He posted a picture of a stylized X against a black outer space-themed background.

“And soon we shall bid adieu to the Twitter brand and, gradually, all the birds,” he said.

Under Mr Musk’s tumultuous tenure since he bought Twitter in October, the company has changed its business name to X Corp, reflecting the billionaire’s vision to create a “super app” like China’s WeChat

"Have you seen my latest X?

I didn't know you had any relationships

No, my X! I posted it this morning!"

I honestly feel Twitter (I'm still calling it that) has gone downhill. One of my friends hit the direct message rate limit after sending only 15 (yes, 15!!) DM's... whereas I've sent waaaaaaaay more and not hit any rate limits.

You can't message certain accounts unless you are verified. I couldn't contact a business on Twitter for help with something unless they followed me, which asking them to is quite hard on a protected account that one doesn't want to unprotect. I have been able to message them without them following me in the past. (edited)

Seems like twitter is evolving. I wonder if it something to do with SpaceX.

Twitter will soon be my X at this rate.

I feel like Elon is just trolling. This would be such a nonsensical rebrand. Most of Twitter's value is tied to the branding and name recognition.

Why, just why? Reminds me of the New Coke debacle. And the idiocy of Microsoft naming an app Teams.

Wants to turn it into an 'everything' app. Years ago, he tried to rebrand Paypal as 'X' but was booted out by shareholders, maybe going down the same road but it's Elon.. so anything is possible!

I am loving this demise of Twitter. Elon has been fantastic

But I am equally worried where all the users will move to...

Yep, his plan to destroy Twitter is going very well.... not sure why he's doing it, but it seems to be going well.

    Elon has indeed flipped !

HIw 45 odd billions spent on acquiring birdie is like a millstone round his neck and is desperate to do something (anything with it) to seek attention and approval.

A spoilt brat with ADHD to boot. Too much power (money) , corrupts the mind.

I think his lenders are more worried right now, and therefore Tesla shareholders, given that he will have to sell his Tesla shares to repay the loans.

I think we can all agree that apart from Tesla cars ( a pioneer of sorts, bringing into mass market ) , Elon Musk has entertainment value.

Who says eccentrics cannot be funny, entertaining and entrepreneurial at the same time?

A live example, if there is ever one.

What ticks me off is that Elon keeps putting up these open goals for Bluesky to take advantage of and they're like "No, we're good thanks" as they stay invite-only.

More and more people will migrate to threads and Bluesky will be dead on arrival.

Are people on Twitter not worried about what happens if he goes into partnership with a AI company who can scan all your pictures and use them how they please because you are on there app and agreed to it when you sign up (edited)

If the same users use Facebook or Google/Amazon/Microsoft photo storage, probably not.
