You can pick up the new Lenovo`s with a 4060 for this sort of money or less if you wait for voucher offers to come up slightly better performance and new and better AMD or Intel Cpu`s . It looks to me like stock clearance is kicking in usually happens in summer.

You'd still be better off with this deal unless the new gen GPU matters more, as the 3070 is still a few steps above the 4060 in power despite being older. If you were looking at a 3060 laptop however, I'd probably stick out for the 4060. I have this exact 3070 laptop and can confirm it's a workhorse. Lenovo struck a little gold with the 2021 Legion laptops and they beat out most of the 2022 range in build quality. This year's range is pretty decent, but for a 3rd-gen GPU I'd definitely recommend the 2021 Legion 5.

Honestly how far off the mark would I be getting this as a portable vMix machine? Here are the specs they recommend:

Processor 1 gen older but the GFX card is better. Add a 1TB M2 SSD. Correct?

It should be fine, the difference in CPU is minimal (just a small frequency bump, having the same number of cores matters more for vMix). (edited)

Lenovo really made a SKU with AMD R7 6800H, 3060 and QHD 165Hz screen. But this i7 12700H, 3070 version has a FHD 165Hz screen, make it make sense

    Mine is Asus 6800h, 3060, 165 QHD, 100% DCI-P3 and I love it.

Some people want a decent gaming machine but have other purposes for the screen -

For me it's great for work as FHD is far too small for spreadsheets, QHD matches with my second screen, colour accuracy is great for movies and for colour work, and gaming is perfectly good too. I do pretty much everything in 10bit 120Hz and I don't mind using upscaling for games. No need for 165 even if it's nice to have.

My biggest regret is the lack of USB C charging on mine but that's it.

Just get a Rog Ally or Steam Deck, gaming laptops suck
    OllieFTH's avatar
I own a steam deck and it’s great, but you can’t compare it to a dedicated gaming laptop thus making your comment nonsense. (edited)

    Is it DDR4 of DDR5?

And I'll point out right away that yes - the specification says a maximum memory of 32GB, but that's how much was officially tested by Lenovo, but 64GB also works, tested and confirmed.

2.4kg with a 300w adapter. That would be one chonky boy to lug around.

Luckily it supports usb c pd so you can forgo the main charger when you're travelling.
    poops101's avatar
This ^ I have the same chunky boi too, different specs but I use an Anker 65watts pd charger for this when I'm at work! And it works like charm!!

Nice. I’ve had a Legion 5p for a couple of years and it’s been faultless
    clavier3895's avatar
5p sounds like a bargain for a gaming laptop

Have a look at lenovo reviews on truspilot, I bought one and severely regret it!

I think I'll keep my gtx1650 for a few more years

Do these gaming laptops deliberately come with a small SSD so that if you want to install more than 3 modern games you have to void your warranty and install a bigger SSD yourself?
    LaptopDealsEU's avatar

Replacing thermal paste, expanding RAM or the hard disk will not void the warranty. However, when sending the laptop back for warranty, it must have the factory components and nothing can be damaged when replacing it.

for reference to my 1st comment.

Oof, that had a bit of a price jump since!
I did consider that one when I saw it, but it's yet another thing I don't really need that HUKD would have made me buy, lol.
  12. AngelMLV2's avatar
How does this compare to a Thinkpad P16s? I know that they're two completely different machines built for different purposes but still? I paid £600 off a deal on here and think I got a good deal. Is this worth the upgrade for the price difference?
    Foxeh's avatar
    Lol, no comparison.

I'm thinking about pulling the trigger and getting this. Before I do, are there any better deals around for approx the same price? I was considering the Legion 7 duel AMD but I feel this one will be better
    LaptopDealsEU's avatar
    Author
The Legion 7 will be much better quality and actually that's the only thing you're paying £100 extra for, as performance will be on a similar level.

    512gg SSD

Imagine dropping a £1000 on a gaming laptop. You install 3 high spec modern games. And that is it you will be spammed with messages saying you need to free up space.

Oh, I see the you are just starting to look around for a laptop in a similar price range

Use a Leigon 5p with an RTX 2060 for my professional video work, does the job well.

Looking to upgrade that to a 4090/80 model when the time is right as 4K is fine but a 2 hour+ timeline with graded 4K footage can sometimes a bit much, though for the specs it's mighty impressive.

TL;DR - Good laptops for the money, I'd argue.

Looking for some advice if possible 🙏

I’m looking to replace a ten year old Dell for something that will play Football Manager on high settings for a few years. Will this cut the mustard?

Am I silly buying something from Box so close to a Bank Holiday?

    Thanks 🙌
