sorted byAndroid 12 Go will run fine on 2gb ram, there are phones out there running it on worse spec than this.

You can optimize the OS for him by reducing the no of apps on each home screen, locking screen layouts so he doesn't inadvertently move icons around or 'lose' them etc.
With my 82 year old dad, I've also blocked installation of 3ed party apps - when I got him the phone, he used to install multiple rubbish apps by himself without realising it. I found out that whenever he sees a message like "Your phone is critically low on memory -click here to clean", he'd click onto some rubbish 3rd party app download link and install the rubbish app!
Getting him a smartphone changed his world- he's not very IT literate so not familiar with YT on a PC, and his hands are too weak to grip a tablet for long, but on the phone he spends hours watching 1950s songs and gardening videos on the family Indian YT I got for him (less than 2 quid a month for multiple accounts).
He also reads a lot of news articles via apps (PressReader is free through UK libraries,, hundreds of premium newspapers and magazines available).
Once you get him a smartphone, he'll start figuring it out slowly and believe me, he'll thank you for it. (edited)

The Oppo was only released Aug 22 (edited)
Guessing an older version of Android or Android Go only. (edited)
Could you please advise on the best current Xiaomi phone around £300 - £350 both with and without expandable memory?
Many thanks in advance buddy
It cannot do the 'one thing' I wanted which is:
Mutiple User Accounts/Profiles.
It was to be setup as an emergency phone - just to hold WhatsApp - with seperate profiles for a few family members
Does anyone know of a basic phone that provides 'Mutiple users'
Ive been up and down various forums and tried a few techniques - Enable Developer Mode, (MIUI DOWNLOADER etc) but have had no luck.
The price of the A2 was attractive - as the phone - hopefully never gets used
