UK Energy generation today. I for one am super proud. Views?

    Renewables already cover 100% of our needs for residential use. Over a year span.
    Its the businesses on top that require the extra power, businesses tend to use more power hungry equipment.

    Just a shame that most are foreign owned ( France, Sweden, Germany norway, Denmark)

    And Nuclear runs at 100% 24/7. But triple wind capacity and UK is into a "need to export/sell" scenario.(it has to be windy somewhere round our shores).

    This country could be self sufficient in electricity by early 2030's.

    The uks 4 largest windfarms are off the coast of yorkshire, London and Cumbria :/

    May be producing all this electrity - however we still pay too much as a consumer.

    Indeed, but at least electricity is 13p per kwh today (octopus tracker). I was paying more than that in 2009!

    Coal gives very reliable base load capacity. Coal based plants also cannot be shut down and then restarted at short notice, so they are kept running at the bare minimum. (edited)
