YouTube & Ad Blockers

Looks like YT are cracking down on ad blockers.

I use Adblock Plus and have been getting the below message recently when playing YT videos.

So far, I can dismiss the message and proceed as normal but looks like YT will, thereafter, start to limit things.

Plenty YT App to use to stop adverts, I'll not name them on here as comments usually get deleted but have a little Google and it'll pop up

Why would proper safe solutions be deleted. Brave browser, Newpipe etc.

What one should NEVER use are all those fake apps google loves to serve up as the first hits on any search. Want a clue? When using google search, include Reddit as a word in the search bar. This will throw up reddit discussions which are one of the best resources for locating the right, free, safe apps.

PS in general Reddit is an open sewer. But tech threads in certain key groups are a rare example of Reddit usefulness.

They're completely ruining YouTube with those constant ads! I will never pay over 10 quid just to remove ads what an utter rip off.

I know - you don't realise how intrusive the ads are until you go from using an ad blocker to not using one.

I predominantly use YT on a desktop PC and my Chrome browser has an ad blocker.

However, we also watch YT on the main TV which does not have an ad blocker and the random invasive insertion of ad's really ruins the experience.

I'm sure the vast majority of us have YT premium anyway. It's the best £1.50pm I spend.

    £1.50 a month? When I look it's £12.99

I "live" in Ukraine, and I pay under £2.25 per month.

I guess the reasonable observation is:
the platform has to obtain revenue to fund its service from somewhere,
the question is what methodology is reasonable and what, if any, price-to-be-paid-by-punter is reasonable.
Not an easy balance to ensure features, longevity, quality content encouragement, ongoing user interest, whilst providing a (reasonable) return for the operator.

The use of integral ablock browsers (e.g. Opera) and/or browser + Ublock Origin means the user simply won't see ads and also doesn't (yet?) receive any nags when the AB feature(s) are active,
so presumably that methodology is part of the root-cause of Google's anti-AB motivation.
Or maybe those options are only successful if accessing minimal-monetised content, accessed optionally whilst not loggedin to a Google account?

Alphabet is literally five-eyes, so you already pay for the service via your taxes (whether you like it or not).

As the takedowns of wrong-think channels prove, Youtube, first and foremost, exists to push agendas on the hard of thinking. Guess who is not going to give up that Orwellian ability for a bit of 'ad-revenue'?

If Alphabet were a commercial company (it is not) it would have baked ads into the actual stream data long ago.

PS today I noticed a complete change to the 'recommended' videos on my homepage. I wonder what horrifying event caused Youtube to have to pause pushing a certain agenda today?

I wonder how they decide who "qualifies" for this banner as I haven't seen one so far

Youtube (Google) knows everything about their users. It applies a tech IQ test, and targets the 'vulnerable' with such tactics. The people their AI algorithms suggest are most likely to be scared into allowing ads or buying premium.

You can get around it by getting a decent vpn that blocks ads (and other nasties) on their network so you don't need an easy to spot adblocker.

Can you please name one or two VPNs which can do this, preferably free ones. Thanks.

I've got surfshark with ad blocker running on my Sony android TV but still get ads. Any way around this?

If you have a phone, simply get Newpipe from fdroid. Newpipe is a free replacement client for Youtube app, works better, has no ads, etc.

Youtube, a five-eyes service, has literally zero chance of winning the ad-war and remaining relevant. Since Youtube wants to control the agenda, it will never use the nuclear option when it comes to ads- and even that option can fall to crowd-sourced anti-ad activity - as seen with sponsor-block.

No, what Google is doing is trying to scare the normies. People too lazy and ill-informed to use their phones and computers properly. Problem is, the anti-Google community has no mercy for Google's policies, and will do their best to provide even normies with good anti-ad solutions.

Newpipe you still going through youtube (google) servers they still know what you watching so they can send ads via other ways.
Libretube is via 3rd party server but breaks often....both on fdroid or direct from newpipe website or github for libretube.
