I received this to and usually I don't read changes but for some reason I did and thought what a joke. I will cancel asap and thry haven't even given gift card promos anymore so will use what I have left before cancelling.

You do not need the Monese account to access your gift cards which are on wegift. Just make sure you have the email from Monese, subject line "Thanks for buying a gift card!" which has the link to wegift in it.

I've no money in there, I only used it for the vouchers so I guess it's bye bye monese (once I've double checked I've sorted all my existing vouchers).

What's the easiest way to close your account?

Log into app > touch 3 horizontal lines ≡ menu at top left > Settings > Account settings > Close account (at the bottom) (edited)

Just received email too and straight close the account.

I pay for my Turkish Netflix from that account. Do I get charged extra for that direct debit ? If so then I will be closing it too. They already charge for current exchange but only in pennies but £1 transaction fee is too much

It says Direct Debits are free under the section 'Sending and receiving money & Transfers' in the new T&Cs valid from 19.12.23. Also see this related info support.monese.com/hc/…er- (edited)

I see no reason to use Monese with these changes in place. Charging £1 to make a bank transfer out, why would people put their money into an account which does this? I think Monese is focusing on travellers who may not have easy access to an UK account, but for anyone who does there is no point (unless the gift cards come back) (edited)

I skimmed over the email and assumed the charge for transfers was for overseas transfers only but no, it ridiculously appears to be for all transfers. I'm glad i checked this thread!

I had an email about this earlier today and immediately closed my account, i guess they're going to lose most of their customers now, strange decision.
i know a large percentage of their customers probably dont use the account anyway but charging for transfers in and out etc... Is just plain mad, i guess they're going broke soon as they'll have a tiny market.
No more vouchers for us ☹️ (edited)

Cancelled my accounts, since there haven't been any discounted gift card promotions the whole year. It was good while it lasted. Managed to save £2,200 during the 3 years while it was on.

Thanks op for this post, reminded me to close the account.

I just got email , logged straight into monese and closed account , charging for all ATM withdrawals , for bank transfers , to top up your account and if you choose to do nothing then they still charge you after 12 months for that. Sod that. Bit of a risky move with Monzo and revolut and even starling alternatives.

Thankfully closing the account was a breeze. Thanks Monese, it was good while it lasted.

    Cancelled!

Monese is bleeding and investors are demanding to see a path to profitability. I am not surprised with this at all.

    Revolut incoming?

Anyone know which way is cheapest to get out money out. I have some balance remaining just over £120? Than I shall close.

Edit: nevermind it tells you the charge when you want to send it which was free. (edited)
    bargainhunter2409's avatar
Because charges don't come in until December. It's free until then

I have deleted my monese account. Stuff them

No vouchers. I'm out. Don't use it for anything else anyway

Just shifted all my money out. My least used banking app anyway, so no great loss.

... however it was used for incoming eBay payments, which I only just remembered and changed just in time

I always remember monese claiming that they would offer an account literally to anyone with a pulse.

    They turned me down

    Did they say why?

Is it not just worth keeping the account open in case the vouchers return?

    • Inactive account fee: £1/1€/5 lei per month after 12 months of not using your account and card

    • No free allowance on outbound local payments - currently 50 transactions per month
    What's an "outbound local payment"?
    slaha11's avatar
You're making a payment to another account within the same country, for example.
