Great Films For Free That Everyone Can Get

After the extortionate price rising by streaming services I thought I might remind people there are many films you can record & watch to your leisure from normal TV.

For example:
Apocalypse Now: Final Cut
BBC2 11:05 Today

Deepwater Horizon
Great Movies 9.00PM Today

Sleepers
Legend 28th Oct 9:00Pm

So many films to watch without paying a subscription.

Feel free to add a movie to watch on Freeview.

Also there is a "Films" section on BBC iPlayer that has a decent number of films (most or all of which have been shown on BBC television).

There is also the Talking Pictures TV channel available for free on many platforms like Sky (although I do admit they tend to show older films or TV programs (some VERY old), but great for those interested in older films or for film historians).

I have a great interest in Comedy and they show many old comedy films from the 1950s, 1960s 1970s and so on that I have never seen anywhere else.

Talking Pictures web site to see what is on

    talkingpicturestv.co.uk/

They also have their own web site (tptvencore) where you can watch the films or TV shows for free.

Technically you need a TV license to view any BBC content.
If you are prepared to watch content from the web then you have access to a lot more legitimate & free content. I found the easiest interface to use is Plex, however they do have adverts.
I also found a trip to CEX to stock up on DVDs & Blurays - most can be had for around a pound!
(I end up ripping them to my Plex server as I hate the fact that you have to watch the anti-piracy trailer every time!)

Well, "technically" ripping those discs is also breaking the law! (CDPA, defeating the copyright protection) (edited)

There's a surprising amount of full movies free on Youtube...but I'm sure a lot of them are not there legitimately.

An expection is the channel for Mosfilm, a Russian film studio dating from 1924, which has released a significant amount of movies for free!

If you're into Russian cinema, you're in for a real treat! Not all have English subtitles though so you might have to do some hunting.

(Unfortunately I can't seem to link to the channel directly, so I've provided Stalker here and you can connect to the channel from that)

Sadly the quality varies and some can be edited without your knowledge, but generally there is a good selection (I use ADBlock to prevent the Youtube ads!)

The most extortionate price is the £13.25 for the TV licence in my opinion.

As someone who uses streaming services mostly Netlfix rather than watching TV live I think the £13.25 to watch a few shows on I player is poor value and will probably ween myself off them and save the £13.25 soon.

You still have to pay for a TV licence though, which given the cost of the licence expanding and the Beeb's reputation, I personally think it's better off getting a subscription even for one or two services.

Lets really face it. How many of those people who have chosen not to renew their TV Licence do not watch a game of live football, watch a soap etc etc. Not many at all.

Anyway. What movies have you come across on normal TV?

    Oh man

A thread meant to be a legitimate "list" of films to watch without subscription has turned into, well maybe to be expected, an off topic discussion on the rights & wrongs of streaming.

In any case I would recommend "Sleepers" which is on Legend TV channel at 9pm.

If you haven't seen it before it is worth a watch.
    aLV426's avatar
Well that's the problem - there is no "legitimate" list as there are many regulations & laws in the UK that prevent legitimate streaming of data in public...

You might want to edit the title though. Not everyone and no, you shouldn’t assume couples with kids usually abuse the system.

I like my assumptions. They tend to be absolutely correct.

Yes but that has resulted in paid for channels

That has kind of disintegrated the way this thread will.

Rather than add films that people can watch for free.

Switch your vpn to the US, and then legitimately watch movies for free on YouTube.
You can watch the US or UK version of Pluto.tv, depending on your VPN setting.
Tubi, Amazon video, apps with a nautical origin such as Bee TV.
Many options exists with on demand features. Not everyone wants to watch 22 overpaid schoolboys kicking a pig skin around a field
    aLV426's avatar
" legitimately" I don't think that word means what you think it means....
Oh - btw it's a simulated pig skin these days! (edited)

"Torrentgalaxy dot to" is good and will probably have full movie packs that have been curated by seafaring movie fans.
