Bristol CAZ

Hi all,
Not sure if these kinds of posts are entertained anymore.
My little boy had surgery on Sunday. My wife is staying with him and I am visiting every few days. I paid the CAZ on Sunday as I didn't want the faff. I actually applied for the 7 day exemption on Sunday too as he is an inpatient. I can't see any way to see to know it is confirmed so I'm going to pay again tomorrow I think

Are there any ways to get to the Children's hospital but not pay the CAZ? It looks like if you approach from the North of it, it might be possible to use one of those car parks without treading into the CAZ. I'm on time constraints tomorrow so not sure Park and Ride is an option. Possibly though.

I can see a phone number I'll phone up. Looks like if I do go into the zone tomorrow, I get up to 4 days to pay up anyway.

There’s no way to avoid not driving through it to get to the Children’s Hospital. However some patients and visitors are exempt: uhbristol.nhs.uk/pat…ne/

Thanks, I applied for that on the weekend. Looks like you don't get confirmation but I will have to assume I have been granted it.

Hey sorry to hear about your LO. I'm afraid I don't have the local knowledge to help you out but wanted to say the community here has always been amazing whenever I've posted this sort of question. Give it a bit of time and I'm sure you'll get some ideas. Hope everything turns out ok. (edited)

Thank you. It was planned spinal surgery to ease effects of his cerebral palsy. He's recovering great so far. Missing him but staying back in Wales to keep his 3 year old sister's life as normal as possible!

I'll probably set off and make a call to the helpline in the morning. Partly my fault not accounting for this issue (wife's car is exempt completely!). And in Wales we don't pay for hospital parking so it is some extra costs I hadn't fully prepped for. It is a great community here, been on this site for many years!

You're sure your car actually had to pay?

Are you driving a "commercial" vehicle?

Just in case anyone ever needs info about this in future.

Generally I used the second vehicle we have to visit Bristol as it was exempt. But for my own vehicle, I applied for the 1 week exemption. There is no confirmation but I was able to speak to the hospital team eventually and they confirmed it had been granted. The Bristol Council team also confirmed there were no fines linked to my vehicle.

A shame it is not automated but I imagine there would be slip ups in the system that may cause headaches. But it would be better for patients and families of patients if there was some kind of confirmation system.

Main thing is my little boy is 7 weeks on from spinal surgery and back in School already and taking steps in a way he has never been able to before.
