Highly unlikely considering the amount of people entering the country daily. They're nearly all going to require housing at some point and construction of new builds is plummeting

Two Bank of England policy makers said Britain’s tight labor market is feeding a wage-price spiral, with one suggesting that unemployment may need to hit as high as 6% to tame inflationary pressures.

You won't know the answer to that question posed today until this time next year. 14 interest rate rises, that may have topped out, takes a long time to creep through the system and show their effect. Indicators like unemployment rates, house sales and bad debt are worth following. Economists as a group predict flat growth or mild temporary recession in 2024, but economists are notoriously unreliable.

Yes, I've heard about it every year for the last 20 years. (edited)

First sign of a recession. Car sales down & steel production goes down too.

If you haven't seen both of them then it is highly unlikely.

Recession is calculated by how much the economy grows [GDP] not the price of homes and food prices ect

Correct, but if that demand outstrips supply, guess what happens?

I’m still waiting for the 30% house price crash by Christmas promised last year and the year before that.

They've been saying that every year since 2008. My mate sold his house for £300k then stating a crash was imminent. He now rents a 3 bed terrace for £2,100 per month and his old house sold last year for £550k (edited)

Recession means different things to different people. What matters to you may not matter to me.

We are in recession. Mortgages jumping £100s
    Food price rises
    Energy costs

All that's happened is people have tightened belts.
Just not enough skilled labour or services to meet a demand if there was a boom. The current economy is just ticking over.

If only there was a way we could get skilled labour into this country and boost our economy. Like during the late 90's. Maybe they should consider a Canada style immigration system that prioritises the people with the skills we need as opposed to rich people. Maybe we should consider joining an economic trade block/group of some sort.

The forecasts are that the UK is likely to have, at best, flat growth for 2024 and 2025. Since the definition of a recession is 2 consecutive quarters of negative growth then it seems probable.
