UPDATE: edited the price, including VAT (delivery is free) it's currently £122.35. Still a great price.

I bought two of these and have been running them for months as Proxmox servers running home assistant, plex and a whole host of other toys.

They arrived with windows 11 pro, fully activated and are incredibly fast and near silent. The N100 CPU from intel is latest gen, it sips power and is yet fast enough to transcode decent quickly films.

I can't recommend the hardware enough, a tiny simple package that carries the latest tech.

Delivery was free and quite speedy, no issues there, also no customs charges.

It won't be for everyone, but it beats a lot of the deals of 'tiny pcs' people keep listing on here. I've no idea why anyone would want a 5-7 year old antiquated bit of hardware from ebay that has a fraction of the performance. Each to their own!

For those more tech savvy individuals, proxmox installs perfectly and is stable running several VMS. If you've used Vmware or Hyper-V then this is incredibly similar in functionality, it's just open source too

    This annoys me

I paid around £200 for a much earlier Intel NUC10i5FN from CEX as a spare computer after managing to wreck my desktop (don't ask..).

Brilliant bit of kit either way though. Perfectly fine for basic desktop browsing and a bit of light emulation while I wait for my new PC to be built and delivered.

Don't know about this model, but I know I had to buy a USB soundcard for my one to get some tunes going.

At 5 day delivery, I'm half tempted to sell the one I've got back to CEX and order this one instead ! (edited)

This has everything built in and working, sound is fine of course. Right now, if it's not a N100 (basically if it's an N95 or any other lower power intel cpu) I'd give it a miss. Obviously there are some great lower power AMD chips too, as well as more powerful intel ones but this is hard not to like. I'd highly recommend checking out some reviews of the CPU, or perhaps a score comparison at geekbench (just google that).

This pc is so tiny when i took it out the box I was convinced the fan was going to howl, but no, it's super efficient. I did try fortnite on Windows 11 out of curiosity before installing Proxmox hypervisor, obviously it wasn't great but it was just about playable which is quite astonishing. This IS NOT a gaming pc, emulators, old games, web based gaming will be fine but that's about it.

Congratulations on your first deal post!

Worth noting that with sellers on AliExpress there's very little form of redress if you have a warranty issue with the devices, although issues are not overly common, it may be something the more cautious would want to consider.
Voted hot because I love SFF low power computing. (edited)

I think Cutesliving Store supports free AliExpress returns as I ordered one of those air duster/blower things and the battery didn't work, got given a free returns label to send back to a UK address. Anyway, they are a good seller and you should be ok, broadly speaking.

I would just reinstall windows from a USB to be safe. These items are cheap and could be loaded with malware. I'm sure it'll be good once you do this.

Also, thank you so much for the images. This has helped me answer some questions related to the internals of the machine. Much appreciated

Step-by-step guide on what i went through yesterday for the re-install:

    0. create a windows 11 bootable USB (Download Windows 11)

    1. Boot the PC.

    2. It will ask to create an offline acct and password/PIN - make something up and write it down - it is temporary. Don't divulge any real passwords.

    3. Once booted up, set up the internet connection

    4. Go to Windows Accounts and sign into your microsoft account. if you have authenticator set up , you won't have to enter a password. Authenticate login through your mobile phone.

    5. Restart the PC into recovery mode (start->restart) while holding left shift on your keyboard.

6 On recovery page select boot from USB

    7. Select re-install windows (not repair). You'll need to select the largest partition on the disk to install to. (something like 470 GB)

    8. Follow on screen prompts. login with your Microsoft account. You will need your password/PIN from (2) - this is the last time you will use that pw.

    9. Job Done.

Steps 1 to 4 may not be necessary, but i did it anyway in case the pc had to be linked to my MS acct in some way. Maybe someone else can share whether you can reinstall straight out of the box. (edited)

I've got this, bought 2 and gave one as a gift. Really good systems. I purchased with a portable monitor and stand to make a mini setup.

Comes with W11, 16gb Ddr5 and 512gb nvme. On arrival I had to change the ddr5 RAM frequency to 4800 from 3200. Was super simple and easy to do. Bios is unlocked.

N100 supports ddr5 4800 speed. It plays light games LoL, DOTA 2.

Buy 2 from the same seller and dodge the auto the tax (edited)

What good is dodging the auto tax?
Aliexpress jsut charge tax autoamticaly if cost is less than £135, otherwise you'll just be charged at the other side when it arrives in the UK?

How do you reinstall windows ?
  8. Peg.Man's avatar
Here is my Win11 reinstall method. Googled a lot along the way as never needed or wanted to do it before...
Credit as I borrowed some things there and used it as a base.

    **On another computer (if possible):**
    1) Download Windows 11 install software onto a USB drive
    **On the new mini:**
    2) Boot to windows using any old name, password and security. Nothing real (write it down)
    3) You do not need to connect to the internet, bypass by doing this... - I needed a USB keyboard here for some reason, probably just me
    4) Once windows is up Get your Win11 product key - it was not on my packaging (write it down)

Option A (new windows 11 install):
5a) Boot to BIOS / UEFI and change the 'Boot' option so that USB is option 1 before disc, for me I used the Hold SHIFT then click restart in Win11 - INSERT USB before doing this
6b) Follow the instructions to reinstall win11
7c) You can decide to delete the other partitions or not (I would)

Option B (wipe the lot and start from scratch):
5b) Go to settings, recovery and reset device. I followed this guide... - NOTE: this will take a while, maybe a good few hours
6b) Install windows. I needed to use the oobe\bypassnro method again to avoid network connection (wouldn't type until I did CTRL+SHIFT+TAB and selected command prompt) and also the no@thankyou.com method to avoid setting up or linking an account (probablt a better way, i didm't look too hard).

I'm doing Option B now, will update when complete. Saving the post now so I don't lose it!!
UPDATE: took over 3 hours, didn't need the windows key but good to keep anyway (edited)

Can anyone recommend a good, reasonably priced UK power supply for this? I'd rather not use an EU adaptor. Thanks!
    Crossbow's avatar
Recommended if you want to save some money & avoid compatibility issues, a simple EU-UK converter plug will do just fine... I use them myself for EU-plug items - bought my BS-certified ones from Poundland for £1-2, here are alternatives if you don't have one where you live:
    - amazon.co.uk/Pro…2Z/
    - amazon.co.uk/Sta…56/
    - robertdyas.co.uk/pif…tor
    - dunelm.com/pro…863
    - amazon.co.uk/Tra…29Z
    - amazon.co.uk/Con…M4H

If the seller happens to include a convertor, best to bin it as it won't be properly certified fatallyflawed.org.uk/BS1…tml (edited)

Nice deal, I got a beelink with the same processor running proxmox and a virtualized pfsense instance and it can handle 1gig over wireguard if anyone is interested. I also run pi hole and my unifi controller on it too.
    GenuWhine's avatar
Beelinks are garbage, they use the cheapest of cheapest SSD drives - The thing with Beelinks, only use them to tinker, dont trust them with any important data because the drive will fail. Just go see for yourself on their forums, they simply shut people up by sending out a like for like replacement. (edited)
  12. k9plus1's avatar
Having toyed with it last night I can confirm.

    1. a reinstall of win 11 did not need additional drivers (no need to backup drivers!)
    2. I did not need to reactivate win 11 pro (no need to 'link' or export serial key!)
    3. Had to set TV hdmi mode to 'standard' on my hisense TV

I also set up moonlight on the mini PC (client) and sunshine on my host PC (AMD GPU) upstairs . Now can fully stream my entire epic AND steam library to the living room which is fantastic.

Guide on how to do this below.

Download moonlight (client) from here: github.com/moo…ses
Download Sunshine (host) from here: github.com/Liz…8.4
Download gamepad emulation drivers (host) from here: Releases · nefarius/ViGEmBus

Make your networks on both PC's PRIVATE NETWORKs under 'network and settings'. Otherwise the client won't find the host. Essentially it lets you remote into your host PC and run all apps/games remotely.

And obviously, a wired network on the host would be pretty much essential.

    (edited)
    wah0007's avatar
That's really good, do you have to have a Nvidia GPU to stream games to it? I have an AMD GPU and an Intel GPU in the other PC.

I remember using moonlight a couple of years back to stream games to the Android box downstairs from the PC that was upstairs via powerline adapters, but it's been so long I can't remember much about it anymore.

Also, I tried doing a fresh install of Windows 11 with a bootable USB drive, but once it got to the setup screen it said this version of windows is not compatible with this PC, I've probably missed something. (edited)

hrm this is very tempting for a plex box. there's no expansion on the storage i presume, it uses some goofy m.2 standard so i don't know if you could easily upgrade that way anyway, but you totally could run external storage for media streaming.

i was going to buy a HP Prodesk 600 G3 Mini on facebook market for 40 with a 6100t in it and upgrade the chip to something 7th gen for the better iGPU but this would be objectively far superior, right? for plex specifically.
    David_JonesgPF's avatar
    Author
This has full speed usb 3.2 so there are external options. Caddy (£15) with a 4tb m2 ssd Or plug in any old caddy and mechanical disk if you just need a big space for plex, it'll only spin up when accessed.

Can someone do me a favour and put this on a power reading plug and say how many watts used at idle and under load
    RMED24's avatar
I have a different mini PC with the more power hungry Intel N95 and it was pulling about 18w under load. The Intel N100 has a 6w TDP compared to a 15w, I can make the assumption that the whole PC will probably pull about 10w under load though

I actually bought this so if nobody has left a message before I get mine, I can let you know since I have the necessary tools required (edited)

The real nice thing with the N100 is the GPU. It can be used for encoding several streams in Frigate: reddit.com/r/h…ng/

I'm a big Pi fan, but the price of this system is really good. Once you add in the PSU, cooling, maybe SSD hat (and so on...) for the Pi, this N100 can work out better. The ARM / x86 thing makes no differences to me, but it may for others who wish to run Windows.

The only thing I'd add with these systems and their setup is that the Windows install is normally an....."unofficial" hackey activation. This sometimes gets undone on major Windows updates. I just grab a cheap key to stop that hassle. (edited)

A question for users that use Aliexpress regularly...

What are they like if items don't arrive or are faulty?

I'm kinda interested in a few but there's a lot of bad reviews.
    Majid401's avatar
Ali express has own team which monitors these sellers. Their support is very slow. I would choose seller with plenty of reviews with 4.8 rating. They have gold trusted sellers.
I came across one which had no rating. Bought 2 RC cars, seller didn't ship. I put up case with Ali express. Money was stuck for 2 months until they released it. So it's kinda very slow support but things get sorted at the end

Mine arrived today, exceeding expectations. Excellent bit of kit. Increased the DDR5 speed to 4800MHz. Overall, running Plex at ~4W CPU package power. Much better than my Pi4
    Leigh's avatar
It's the perfext little Plex machine imho. Like you the first thing I did was up the DDR5 speed. I then got rid of Windows and installed Ubuntu Server, followed by Portainer CE, and then simply installed the docker containers I was interested in. This thing is surprisingly quick - I'm particularly impressed with the 4k hardware transcoding. It's a bonus that it has two LAN ports too, as I am able to plug one straight into the second port on my NAS for direct connection speeds (different subnet). I can't recommend this kit highly enough - especially at these prices.

Can I ask a silly question - What's the benefits of using Ubuntu server VS using Windows?
  24. MetalGearAl's avatar
Mine just arrived. Thinking I'll format and go with Ubuntu. I don't want to lose the option of returning to Windows, is there anything I need to do to "back up" the included Windows license so I can still use it in the future?

Do I just have to connect to your Microsoft account to get it to store the digital key, and from there I'm free to format and can use again? I'm guessing this can't be gotten around which could be a problem if I didn't trust the current Windows installation on there? (edited)
    Crossbow's avatar
Exactly this. All the benefits detailed here process.st/how…nt/

You could also set up a dual-boot system & have the Windows option to easily boot to whenever required. As not going to use it very often, you could limit it to 100Gb perhaps.

Dual ethernet is a bit of a weird one as each one is only 1gbps meaning if you can link them together via teaming that's only a 2gbps bandwidth.

With risks being mentioned towards the end of this thread, how much more would a UK or Amazon sourced mini PC be? Thanks in advance.
    Crossbow's avatar
They'll carry similar risks tbh as they are also ultimately from the same Far East brands & sources.
But can you imagine the backlash if anyone found anything, posted damaging reviews & could somehow prove it was present when they received it?
Nobody's going to risk their reputation & sales, although driven by fierce competition & greed other malicious/rogue companies/individuals can deliberately install this malware during the supply chain if security is lax. It's not beyond the realms of possibility.

I'd say they are fine for casual & entertainment purposes, but perhaps refrain from using these types of lesser-known brand PCs from the FE for anything critical or professional - for your job or run a business on for example - and may be even avoid any financial/crypto transactions on it to be on the safest side.
If you're concerned to the point of paranoia, the only really 'safe' brands are Apple, Intel, Dell, Asus, Gigabyte, MSI, Lenovo, HP, Acer, ASrock & similar longstanding & reputable brands in the UK. (edited)

Would this work well as a device to stream games to from my gaming PC? I currently use an NVIDIA Shield Pro & that works brilliantly. How does this compare in terms of power? I'd also use it as a 24/7 media server. Thanks!

I have some spare computer parts from my 2016 HTPC build a few years ago (Intel Core 4170 CPU & a Gigabyte 1150 motherboard along with some DDR4 RAM) but I'd need a new PSU & case. Am I better off utilising these parts? I'm assuming there'd be a big difference in terms of energy efficiency though...
    aLV426's avatar
The power/performance ratio would be better on this device (the CPU has a max 6W TDP, the overall system draw I believe is under 35W). I doubt you would see any improvements when streaming between this & your HTPC.
The NVIDIA Shield Pro is rated at 30W, though it runs Android which would limit options.

I can't speak about this exact PC but I can say that the N100 is an amazing low power server chip. I use a microATX N100 board as a home server running Jellyfin, Pi-Hole, qBittorrent and various other Docker containers, alongside using it as a file server between my main PC and phone. Also ran a 10 player CS2 server for a few days flawlessly! Definitely a worthwhile upgrade from the Pi 4 I was using.
