RIP Steve Wright

Absolutely gutted to hear the sudden passing of Steve Wright.

By far the best DJ of my time loved his shows in the afternoons, serious Jockin on a Friday and his legendary Sunday love songs.

And of course top of the pops!

RIP Wrighty

One of the best DJs remaining on BBC Radio. It's so sad that he lost his afternoon show prior to his death. Clearly BBC regreted the decision and he was recently given POTP to compliment his Sunday Show & digital broadcasts. I listened every Sunday to his shows often throughout the week I'd listen again on BBC Sounds. He often made me chuckle and brightened up the day. R.I.P Steve Wright (edited)

He was probably the 1980s-90s Kenny Everett, in terms of his comedic gift, creativity, sense of anarchy and ability to switch characters.*

I listened to him faithfully throughout the 1980s till the early 1990s - tried to get into his Radio 2 show and though I may well be the demographic for it now, I prefer more eclectic stations like 6 Music.

Still doesn't change the fact he was so well-loved and is a legend!

*Well I'm an eejit, I always thought Mr Angry was Steve himself, turns out some of the voices were Phil Cornwell! (edited)

My best memory of Simon Bates is back in the day I worked in a large factory that played Radio 1 over the tannoy system & when his "Our Tune" segment of the show came, no one would make a sound so everyone could hear the often sad story.

This is Steve Wright not Simon Bates?

Sad that after his divorce he never found new love. He was always at work so never got the time to find anyone else. As a young lad always listened to him in the workshop. Such a legend. (edited)

Sad news, I used to like the closing tune he played in his afternoon shows. I never knew until a few years ago it was taken from a Glen Campbell song, Wichita Lineman.

Always sad to hear of anyone passing, certainly before a ripe age. However, IMHO radio had outlived his dated shows. I stopped listening to R2 a long time ago (and I'm of his ilk-ish)

I only listened to him on Sunday, first time I had used the radio in ages and loved hearing him again, so sad.
