Sky Broadband & TV Prices To Increase In April By Up To 6.7% (You Can Leave Penalty Free Within 30 days)

Sky are increasing prices by up to 6.7% from April, and customers are free to leave within 30 days on receipt of your email / letter

The below text taken from THIS ARTICLE from the COO of Sky

It’s never welcome news that the cost of products and services are increasing, especially at a time when many households continue to face tightened budgets. As we announce some changes to our prices today, I want to be transparent about why these increases are needed and what they mean.

We’re always listening to our customers, so we know that delivering the best Sky experience, whether that’s the technology we create, the content we deliver, or the customer service we provide, is what matters most to them.

To continue to do this, from April 1, most of our TV and broadband customers will see a monthly increase to the cost of their package, with the average increase across our products being 6.7%. We have worked hard to keep our prices as low as possible.

We’ve also done what we can to support our customers who are most vulnerable by freezing the price of our broadband and mobile social tariff again this year, ensuring those who need more support will continue to receive it.

What customers can expect

We differ from our competitors as we don’t pin our increases to CPI or RPI - this means our customers have seen a much lower increase over the past three years - around 14% less than other TV and broadband providers. This percentage difference means that if a customer had a contract that cost £35 a month in early 2022, competitors who follow a CPI model will, from April, charge nearly £60 more a year*. Because we don’t use inflation pinned increases in our contracts, we also enable our broadband customers to leave penalty free within 30 days of being notified of a price increase.

We’ll be contacting every customer that is impacted by this year’s changes soon, providing full clarity on how their products and services will be affected.

Managing increased demand

Millions of people count on our network and products in their everyday lives, which means it’s important we continually work on making them even better.

We know that reliability is really important, so we’ve invested heavily in our broadband network capacity, growing it by 24% since 2022 while reducing faults by 55%. We’re also the only broadband provider that offers a wall-to-wall WiFi guarantee as standard. This means we’re providing much better value and a more reliable service today.

It’s not just about continually improving our customer’s day to day experience, but also providing them with even more choice and even better technology. This is why in 2023 we launched WiFi Max, giving customers our most advanced hub yet and fastest WiFi guarantee alongside a smarter, safer connection.

Delivering better entertainment

Sky is known and loved for its history of innovation in entertainment. Developments in technology mean customers have more choice than ever over what they watch, and when and how they watch it – but the average person still spends 100 hours of their life searching for content.

Sky has invested in solving this problem. Our platforms bring together over 100,000 hours of the best content from top entertainment apps – including the BBC, Apple TV+, Amazon Prime and Disney+.

We offer content from Sky, HBO and Netflix from less than £1 per day, and are always looking at how we can deliver even more value – such as bringing Discovery+ at no extra cost to Sky TV subscribers last year, saving £6.99 a month.

Customers can also look forward to some of the best content coming exclusively to Sky this year, with House of the Dragon 2, The Sympathizer and The Regime. As well as Sky Originals including Mary & George, and the Sky and Peacock adaptation of the global bestselling novel, The Tattooist of Auschwitz. This is on top of access to the shows we know our customers love, including Succession, The Last of Us, Gangs of London, Brassic, And Just Like That…, The Lazarus Project, Rob and Romesh vs…, A League of Their Own, and many more.

Sky also remains the undisputed home for sport fans in the UK. In 2023 alone, we broadcast 70,000 hours of elite sports coverage and in 2024 customers can expect 8,000 extra hours of sport, including football, tennis, and rugby league. We have many of our sports rights locked in until the end of the decade bringing an unrivalled volume of domestic football, Formula 1, cricket, golf, rugby league, tennis and plenty more for customers to look forward to.

On top of all this, we know that delivering the best experience is underpinned by outstanding customer service, so we work hard to ensure ours is best in class. Sky is the least complained about provider according to Ofcom’s latest complaints data across broadband, talk and mobile. And for pay-TV we’ve held this position for nearly 12 years.

Industry changes

Alongside our investments, these pricing changes are reflective of the increasing external costs Sky, and the entire industry, continues to face – whether that’s the energy we are using to power our data centres, investments in the technology we need to develop our products, or the amount we pay wholesalers for our connectivity infrastructure.

Ultimately though, our promise to customers is that whether it’s providing faster, more reliable, and award-winning broadband, unmissable entertainment, or the latest innovative technology, we’ll continue to provide better products, better services, and better value.

*This is based on a provider that implements an increase of CPI + 3.9%, which would be 9.3% in 2022, 14.4% in 2023 and 7.9% in 2024.

I can't understand why companies don't just try and keep it to 1 or 2%. Surely you would gain custom! It just ends up having a spiralling effect on everything else. We'll be lucky to get a 2 or 3% pay rise, but phones, Internet, gas, electric, water, Food, Council tax, etc get to follow suit and increase 6% too. Pure greed! (edited)

I think the point is, if you decide you want to leave, Sky may actually agree to a new price and waiver the 6.7%, not sure if sky are known for this, I know Virgin are

Has anyone managed to go via a cashback site to Sky and then create a new Sky account at the same home address but with a different bill payer?. Already have BB with them in my name, but want to use the wifes instead to get a better deal. Also want to keep landline with it so can't just cancel it.

Posted this Q too, on the Sky @£33 deal discussion.

Yes, I've done this. Different name, email address and bank details.

SKY annoy me because it seems like they are deliberately complex and confusing in how they apply discounts. You never really know how changes to your subscription will affect the overall cost as they tend to link a discount between different services.........and their billing is an abomination - "your first bill covers 33 days rather than 30 days, and therefore we will confuddle you with 49 different lines of credits and debits against each individual service subscription so that you don't have a clue what is going on or what you are paying for"

They should also ban the uplift in costs on a signed set fee contract - I know they tell you it'll go up, but they say it whilst they have one gonad clutched tightly in their fist!

I'll be leaving come March.... Just got Amazon 4k TV stick plus the TV has Freeview and other free channels....

Shame that Sky cannot stop being greedy, and they know the situation in the country at the moment.... Hey ho!

Anyone worked with gigaclear or other similar super speedy broadbands offering cheap prices. I'm with sky and perfectly happy but if I can get more for less I will. For example gigaclear offer 500mbs for 25pm?

    Thanks for heads up (edited)
  9. thepostie's avatar
Wow, my price increase is just over 14% for the full package. Paying £60 for everything TV wise and it's going up to £68.50. These are the kind of increases that make people resent having it. I guess they didn't fancy keeping it at 6.7%, so they decided to double it. 14 years loyalty means nothing. (edited)
    Wammer's avatar
Mine appears to be going up by 12%. However, I'm wondering if the 6.7% increase is on the full price before discounts are applied.

    Hi
Looking for the similar setup. I will appreciate it if you could pm me the provider details. Found loads in Google but don't know which one to go for.

Price rise email received I'd only started the contract about 5 months but I'll be switching out. I can get the same product cheaper as a new customer so I'll use a new email address, payment details and scoop some more cashback.

Did anyone get an email from Sky with new offers being applied?

Yes I got pretty much the same, but they have increased my price, I was paying £53 and they put it up to£60, so how its saving me money i dont know

I will look to move and get cashback if I get an email from Sky to increase my broadband.

Only have 500mb Sky broadband and paying atm £35pm. Just done a quick check and not much out there for my area except possibly EE but contract length is 24 m.

Anyone know of a good supplier around NN10 area for speeds above 200mb and a shorter contract length.

    Thanks

Not used Sky in months - so this is the most excited I've been about a price hike!

We are in the process to be changed over to one of Sky's competitors as they woulden't even offer a decent deal or price. Might as well stick out for about 2 years and see what happens after that, want to see these London ISP's move up here as they tend to offer best value for money, I saw an offer for 1GB internet speed for like £25/£30
    Stormbringer2012's avatar
I live in Spennymoor and we have Youfibre, I pay £30 for 1GB have done for the last 2 years.

Should we get an email about this? I've not had anything yet but wouldn't mind cancelling and going with grain. Not like I use phone line anyway

Looking at my future bills I only have TV and it’s going up from £65 to £75.50 so that’s about 16% increase. Just looked at Virgin and for the same TV package it’s £76
  20. beatrixkiddo79's avatar
I only have Sky broadband and have just checked the account...

Currently pay £33 because I sorted a deal on our last renewal, in May it goes to £51. An £18 increase due to our current deal ending and an inflation increase.

I think I'll be finding somewhere else!!
  21. TinplateGeek's avatar
The headline on this article is incorrect as ThinkBroadBand have done some analysis on the Sky rises and in some cases, the increase can be as high as 13.4%. There are different percentage increases on a per product basis, not an overall percentage change irregardless.

Sky let me leave as I was on sky stream and they said it was a 30 day rolling I thought it was 18 month contract but they say they don’t enforce it so went on sky social broadband for 20 a month

    Anyone had the email yet?
    Wammer's avatar
    Not yet.
  25. hashman's avatar
    waiting patiently for the email

good deals coming out from vodaphone for 1gbit for same price.... obvioulsy locked for 2y with no early escape, but thats fine - as im "only" on 150mb with sky and not paying that price!
    deleted2686495's avatar
Got my email this morning - increase of £3.50 but if you're changed your package since early January it might be different. Which I have, and can't quite work out what the difference actually is, as I've not actually had a bill at my renewal price.

And I'd kill to have only 150mb - I'm still stuck on 60mb until OpenReach sort themsevles out. Went from due June 23, to September 23, to by December (drum roll) 2026.

Hi everyone just wondering if I can cancel my sky signature subscription and just keep the box for free view ?
I must add that my sky signature is out of contract at the end of February (edited)
    deleted2686495's avatar
Depends on the box. If it's Sky Q then you have to return it.

    Freeview btw is aerial based.
  27. hashman's avatar
    got my email today

    +£3

great prompt to look for a faster provider at same or cheaper price.... obvioulsy i know i will most likely be locked in with no possibility to leave as not many offer that luxury any more (incl. virgin!)

but hopefully i can grab a good offer
    hashman's avatar
Rang sky - they offered me the amazing offer of 100mbps for £29... wow amazing!
so i told them to cancel, to which they said if i intend to go with another openreach, the transfer will cancel sky contract automatically and no early termination charges

    so i opted for Vodafone - 500mbps for £33/m 24m contract, so expecting a £3-£4m increase next april which means £396 for year 1 and £444 for year 2 (at £37/m) - total £840
minus £110 voucher £61 cashback via TCB - so effective cost is £669, i.e. £27.9
so not only do i save with from the "amazing offer from sky" but get 5x the speed just saying...
