I thought short haul business class wasn't real business class, just no-one sitting in the middle seat which you sometimes get lucky with anyway?
    watermelonsocks's avatar
You get a better seat, 2 check-in bags, group 1 check-in/boarding, lounge access, and a hot meal with metal cutlery. It's decent in my opinion. (edited)

just TBA business class on BA is club europe, essentially economy seats with the middle seat converted to a table of some sort. For this price its probably worth it
    solid's avatar
    What does TBA mean?

If anyone is interested, combine this with double tier points offer for BA club members. Basically book a flight + hotel or flight + car package booking and you get double the points. By taking the business class fare you’ll get higher points anyway. So if you’re smart you can take one trip and get bumped from blue to bronze in one trip or all the way to silver with two trips.

I am doing this LHR to IST for easy bump up in time for my long haul flights later in the year all with BA.

Use this link to calculate tier points

You forgot that it has to be five days or more long.

I have always wanted to do long haul business class or upper but I don't think it will ever happen in my time.

    Don't!
If you do, you'll never travel steerage again.

As a regular flyer with work I can say without question that BA are shocking. Zero customer service, a disaffected workforce and little interest in the customer. European business class flights are rarely worth the extra spend but this does seem like a good price.

All airlines are not voted poorly. The Middle Eastern airlines are head and shoulders above the traditional carriers. Emirates, Etihad, Qatar are all excellent. You also have some great service from established players like Singapore and some relatively new names such as Vietnam.

If you want to try business class, apart from watching Skyscanner like a hawk or being good at collecting points is to buy an economy ticket and bid for an upgrade. Haven’t done it for a while but Aer Lingus was always good for that. Despite being in the same group (IAG) as BA, their service puts BA’s to shame.
    goldfishtrad's avatar
Absolutely right re BA service. Staff couldn' care less about passengers. Ryanair and Easyjet look good compared to that shower.

Worth it for the lounge access if from Heathrow. I just went business or Club Europe to Germany and ate my body weight in the Cathay Pacific lounge. Plane food was well presented too.
    roguess's avatar
Most of the time youll be stuck with the BA lounge at T5 tho, which is more like an improved version of a pay lounge than an actual good lounge.
  7. Strixx's avatar
When you get access to any of their lounges, is the food and drink all free? And are there any other benefits of their lounges?
    sandman1986's avatar
Yes, i cant remember for sure if champagne is included or not (anymore), but its self service. i do save all my eating for the lounger as well stocking up my bag with crisps/ biscuits and bottled water for my holiday destination! Non airline lounges tend to be more restricted on alcoholic beverages but will always include beers, cheap wines and spirits. Ba used to do free massages but that has stopped since covid which i had a few times. On return u can also use the arrivals lounge which serves a buffet breakfast in terminal 5

wasn’t BA voted recently one of the worst Airline for customer satisfaction?! I’d void them at all costs
    Pk030's avatar
They are all voted very poorly, it's slim pickings!

I used to fly a lot in my job, EU and transatlantic, accured lots of BA points, but using them was very difficult.

One day I decided to switch to preferentially using a US airline in a different point sharing scheme JUST because of the ease of use of airmiles schemes.

Was like night and day, accured more points quicker and could use them easily. Staggeringly different.

You could upgrade a return US flight, often on the day, for 3,000 miles. Often less.

Generally the points schemes seem to have a preference for non-national users.

I finally cashed in my 300k+ BA miles for a stack of Laithwaites wine a few years ago as I could never seem to conveniently use them. At one instance I was looking at flights to Oz, only openings were >365 days in advance. I'm still flying on my US scheme, they no expiry date anymore. Most EU destinations have an affiliated carrier, to acquire points.

As others have mentioned, staff attitude, politeness and quality of travel on BA aren't best. But the airmiles scheme was really poor.
    guyarg's avatar
What is this better US scheme, if I may ask?
  12. dazzapat's avatar
Decent deal. Glasgow and Edinburgh prices are cheaper than some standard fares iv paid recently, and that’s before I get the ‘upgrade offer’ to pay an extra £69+ on top of the ticket I’ve already bought.

The sale is nowhere near as good as the one earlier this year. But better than nothing.

sadly short haul with BA is pretty useless unless you live near London. as a national carrier they should do more flights from other UK airports. upvoted anyway, but would almost say this is a local deal (edited)
    StaceyQ's avatar
    London IS the UK baby
  18. Yossi's avatar
This could make a good mileage or tier point run for UK-based Oneworld members...

Business class short haul in BA is basically economy class with no one sitting in the middle seat and a free meal…..that is literally it… (edited)
    chitychatty's avatar
Apart from the 2 x 32kg, fast track security, 3 hours of free food, drink and booze in the airport lounge, 1st boarding, free food, drink and booze on the flight itself, and fast track departure (if available).
  20. scs2014's avatar
Business class gives you access to the BA lounges. That's the main reason people pay the extra.
    Teahfc1's avatar
Then do a social media check in and a few pictures like they are a cross between Judith Chalmers and Alan Whicker. ( non boomers may have to google them).
Z gen translation would be influncers.

Managed to grab Business Class tickets on Sale for £725 one way from Newark (EWR) to Heathrow in August. I think thats a great deal. It's on a 777 so Club Suites, and of course includes priority check in, priority security, extra baggage, and BA's own lounge in Newark.
    Pryda's avatar
I was on the club suite to New York in a 777, it was unbelievably good! Also had a kip for a few hours, best kip I've ever had on a plane!
  22. freddyflintstone's avatar
Luxembourg was a shade under £150 return on the last sale, at £88 each way calling this a "sale" is a bit far fetched but nothing like a bit of fake marketing to capitalise on the fear of missing out. (edited)

For anyone looking for a family holiday, one business & 2+ hand baggage only fares may provide enough luggage with an upgrade for someone.
  24. RaLuci's avatar
WizzAir wonkers would charge you this much just for luggage 👌
  25. Finley0697's avatar
sadly no more flying in the 747 pictured...
  26. chitychatty's avatar
Excellent for making your own ski-trip. We used to use Club Europe to Innsbruck and head down into the Dolomites. You can utilise the luggage for your ski-gear and you get free food and drink en-route. Makes it cheaper than what is would cost you normally for a day of travel. Get there early, nice breakfast and a couple of bloody mary's... bit of scran and a glass or two of fizz on the flight... Separated from the riff-raff (apart from the others like us that have taken advantage lol)

    If you buy 2 - you'll get a bed!
Entire row for you, just need to lift the mid seat table

    Good price.
    Voting hot (reluctantly).
  29. yellowplum's avatar
It's one of those things that European Business class is always subjective. I agree it's worth it just to bump status points especially if you are close to expiry and risk loosing your current status.

Luggage is always a plus, 2x32KG if you are going somewhere decent for a while. As also mentioned lounge access is guaranteed, so is food and drink on the flight.

It really depends what the difference is for Economy at the same date and time you are looking to go.
  30. tikibeach's avatar
You would be very lucky if you got the a)aircraft shown in picture 2 (not a crappy neo) and b) the seats shown in picture 2. This is row 1 A&C. So unlikely unless you have status or get VERY lucky. It does have good legroom if you get it though (edited)
  31. rambo_or_mark's avatar
the picture of a 747 indicating long haul makes this post click bait to me. its an economy seat anyway on SH...

The Gatwick BA lounge is great, and flights are not hugely different but the luxury of the lounge with table service is a great plus, especially when travelling with young kids
    chitychatty's avatar
Totally agree. To be able to whisk through fast track and get into a restaurant with the little people made the travel so much easier.
  33. RukasuMi's avatar
business flights for short haul arent worth it imo
    A13's avatar
    Cool story bro
  34. rufus_cat's avatar
Definitely worth it for the luggage alone. Plus lounge access and free Champers on board - an absolute steal at those prices.
  35. Ifonlycowscouldtalk's avatar
Is it possible to upgrade flights nearer the date? Or do you get subjected to ridiculous fees?

  38. HottUKDealer's avatar
Only a bargain if the flight actually takes off as advertised which BA don’t have a great record on.

  40. sc597's avatar
BA Business is mostly worth it if there are delays because you have the lounge to wait in (obviously if you have BA status - Gold or Silver - you get this anyway even with economy). I have to say of all of our holidays the last few years everything goes to plan in terms of buses, trains, taxis, drives, the only bit that consistently lets us down nearly every trip is the BA flight there or back. I still fly with them because I have lots of airmiles left over from an old job but I feel no loyalty to the brand any more.
