Written in an easy to follow Dr. Suess style rhythm and pattern, Spunky Bunky the Funky Squirrel is a great read for young children and adults alike. First choice was Funky Bunky the Spunky Squirrel but it didn't land well with the focus group

Apart from the title, which is definitely not ideal for us Brits, the squirrel has clearly been photoshopped on there by Princess Kate.

Don't expect an American author to be conscious of 'real' English usage - to most Americans the rest of the world might as well be another planet (I lived and worked in the US for 4 years). The publisher should have pulled them up on this as having unfortunate marketing effects outside the 50 states.

There are plenty of other words in American English which don't cross the Atlantic very well. 'Fanny bag' ('bum bag') comes to mind as just one example.

Conversely, our American cousins apparently find "Poundland" hilarious.

Wow. Do authors think about the titles they give their books? You'd think that they would try to avoid words which have other meanings which are a bit dodgy.

I’m not sure how many kids are gonna be reading the title and thinking it’s something ‘a bit dodgy’. If they are then maybe that child has bigger issues.
