I’ve ordered 1kg bags of rajah spices from Amazon before. The majority of the time they have sent the incorrect item. They then send out the correct item and say keep the wrong one. Almost a little hack going on

Do they have a long bbe?

Small amounts is good but regular use of turmeric has side effects, it's a major contributor to intestinal, stomach and liver issues including kidney stones and cancer. (edited)

I have never heard of this whatsoever, and I cannot find any data to support your comment nor have you provided any. It is easy to type words and say things with confidence, it doesn't make them true. Support your assertion because it will otherwise deter people from what most studies show to be an anti-cancer beneficial product:

ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pmc…31/ - This talks mostly about benefits, mentions some negative side effects, mainly diarrhea and stomach upset.

If you cannot back it up with anything from a reliable source, then you are indeed scaremongering.

Turmeric is the most researched spice these days due to its vital ingredient Curcumin. Most cheap turmeric powders contain less than 2% Curcumin in it. To benefit from the goodness of Curcumin, look for min 5% content. Search for BBC article trust me I am a doctor on turmeric to understand the amazing benefits of Curcumin.

Ah those exponentially more expensive bags...
All aimed at snake oil lovers.

On an oil note, the BBC also has an article stating research appearing to suggest the absorption of curcumin is greatly assisted by ingestion with fats.
Meaning the whole 5% dietary supplement route is probably less effective than the 2% cooking grade curry addition.
That's if any of that's even true, or just marketing crap.

anywhere to get garam masala cheap? Nearly every AAA+ recipe seems to ask for it. (edited)

    Great value.
    Rajah are a decent brand.
If you were oblivious to the value of this, or the quality of the brand then it really isn't for you.
    1kg is ALOT.

100% agree Rajah is THE brand when it comes to seasonings

Just a guess but it may be to do with the processing and added cr@p nowadays that's easily added to herbs like this and chilli powder to cut costs.

If you can, buy the natural root, it's a powerhouse against many diseases. I've been led to believe adding a little black pepper grains aids absorption greatly .

Duh, all turmeric comes from the ground.

Aldi are doing rajah bags of spices 100g for 85p including garamasala and turmeric. This is much cheaper of course. (edited)

I wanted some fresh but not one place in town sold it. Mentioned it to the guy at the Carribbean shop where i buy my fresh ginger from. He bought some from London for me the other day 😁

Been eating the fresh root from Asian stores since I was a kid. Hated it when I was younger, but appreciate it a lot more now!

Isn’t this the usual price? I always get these from the local cash and carry I barely check how much I pay for them

Thinking of buying some fresh root tumeric, to put in smoothies with ginger and carrot.

been feeling a little low lately
    playdumb's avatar
Not turmeric. What you need is a couple of good deals for things that you (sort of) want for no good reason, other than *it's cheap*.
After I get it, it may well end up in the drawer for a year...but that's okay. The feel good high is
