    Useless stuff

There’s is the problem with rusting as seen in these photos, the strong alkaline brings out the iron in natural stone products leaving reddish brown patches. Only downside to using NaOCL

Why buy this when pressure washer alone does a good job on patio?
    Whitey2048's avatar
    Because it doesn't.

Bleach, hot water, and hard outdoor brush. Works for me.

Very much depends on where you live (I back on to open land), how much sun you get, especially in the winter, when I get none, and what kind of stone you have. I have found only hydrochlorite works for me, others might get away with off the shelf stuff, other might get away with pressure wash alone, but most won't imo.

I usually get this from the Range but looks like its home bargains for me, 5l really does do a lot also, it's a 4:1 ratio with water so it makes a lot for a maintenance spray, probably one batch only for a post winter big one.

Cheaper to buy hypochlorite and dilute down

Can that be used on driveway paving? we had driveway done a year ago and moss from roof has made it gone green, now finally replaced roof tiles so wanted to get patio cleaned, re sanded and sealed hopefully in coming bank holidays (a lot to achieve tbh)

Not a bad price, but a bit weak The activeingredient Benzalkonium Chloride (BAC) is only a 9.9% solution. You may bebetter off buying BAC 50 (a 50% solution) and diluting down to a strongersolution.

    Where from?

My slabs were really green over Winter and I used this on them. They came up very nice and I'll certainly buy more for next year.

    i just bought 2 of the 1L bottles from B&M (well, 3 actually )

In terms of using it on my slab's out back (lots of slabs), took some hard graft using the pressure washer patrio cleaner, but this stuff and my elbow grease = nice clean patio!
I probably used more of the stuff with water than i needed, but who cares, it works a treat !

    Good stuff!

    I just use undiluted.
everything goes from green to the original colour within a day or two.

it says 4:1 but with some of the reviews I wonder if a 50/50 is best? Bought 2 as seems a great price to try out.

Might be good for light cleaning, but to really deep clean, like most of those types of products, probably not great. I use Caustic Soda. You have to cover up as it will burn your skin, but I did this yesterday-it’s the only product I’ve ever used that’s removed the black spots. Bit more of a faff, but the results are brilliant:

For those struggling with rust stains, this is also pretty good-Jenolite (search Amazon). It’s always worked for me, although not my friends wasn’t so lucky. I’ve found over the years that off the shelf branded products tend to do half a job, and pressure washing a patio isn’t a 5 min job, so better to spend a bit more time and do it right first time!

Oxalic acid is typically the active ingredient in patio rust remover. Far cheaper to buy in pure powder form and dilute to required strength. (edited)

Does this stuff actually work? My slabs have got black spots (lurchen) all over them?
    Whitey2048's avatar
Only sodium hydrochlorite works on the lychen for my slabs. See my before and after pictures in the beginning of the thread for comparison to yours. I found this sort of off the shelf product never touched the lurchen. Others may have different experiences with different stone.

Might be stupid but I don’t know much about anything. Would this help on balcony? I also have a lot pigeon pooh that I need to get rid of and my bike is rusty? What could I use?
    Thank you in advance
