THE REVEALING, DEFINING ACCOUNT OF THE DARK NETWORK THAT BROKE OUR COUNTRY.
Something has gone really wrong in Britain.
Our economy has tanked, our freedoms are shrinking, and social divisions are growing. Our politicians seem most interested in their own careers, and much of the media only make things worse. We are living in a country almost unrecognisable from the one that existed a decade ago. But whose fault is it really? Who broke Britain and how did they do it?
Bold and incisive as ever, James O'Brien reveals the shady network of influence that has created a broken Britain of strikes, shortages and scandals. He maps the web connecting dark think tanks to Downing Street, the journalists involved in selling it to the public and the media bosses pushing their own agendas. Over ten chapters, each focusing on a particular person complicit in the downfall, James O'Brien reveals how a select few have conspired - sometimes by incompetence, sometimes by design - to bring Britain to its knees.
About the Author
James O'Brien is an award-winning writer and broadcaster whose journalism has appeared everywhere from the TLS to the Daily Mirror. His daily current affairs programme on LBC is the most popular talk show on commercial radio with over 1.4 million weekly listeners and his first book, How To Be Right, was a Sunday Times bestseller, which won the Parliamentary Book Award for Best Political Book by a non-politician. He is often to be found on Twitter trying not to get into arguments unless absolutely necessary.

sorted byI'm not voting labour: I remember them coming to power the year after I started driving, and gleefully anouncing their fuel-tax escalator to 'encourage' public transport usage, as well as a range of other tax rises across the board to increase public spending, though I don't recall seeing any benefits of that. Oh, and laws, lots of new laws, though some would have been mandated by the EU.
I'm also not likely to vote conservative: they may have been doing okay before Brexit (or at least I don't remember anything particular that was screwing me over back then), but since the referendum they seem to be more interested in who should be PM this week than actually running and improving the country in a way meaningful to the general public. Certainly the public don't feel they're listening, as evidenced in the recent elections. (edited)
For good reason why would he want to explain how and why he and the UK state establishment did all it could to stop centre left social democrat Jeremy Corbyn.
In case you're not aware his politics sit between one nation Tories and Brexity folk.
The same people that told lies about Brexit are now lying to you about leaving the ECHR which if anyone knows will do nothing to stop small boats and immigration and will in fact strip away everyone’s rights in this country. These are the rights YOU have in the ECHR, how many of you really want to give these up?,
Let us know what it means lad and why it's a problem
Brexit broke the country.
Before and after the referendum.
Totally agree, brexit was the biggest con of all time and the worst thing to happen to the uk.
Let’s blame the Tory’s for a change eh, they are at fault. Vote them out. All of them.
How they broke Britain and how my radio station and I helped
Whatever you think about Labour, we need to get the Tories out.
Mr J OB is the GOAT
Obviously I have not read the book, but I would suggest that is people like him that is the reason why Britain is broken?
But then I've also noticed that even the most ardent anti-Labour/Starmer people still can't quite bring themselves to say ".. so you're better off voting Conservative".
spectator.co.uk/art…nt/
Yes it's The Spectator. Attempt to refute the content.
Think we're going to need a citation there fella. He's a radio presenter.
Nice strawman though!
Tread carefully. All the political adults have left the room and nobody wants to deal with long term truths, just short term blame and clumsy patchwork.
How, specifically?
And what revealed truth do you have to specifically correct those purported errors?
You wouldn't run an efficient organisation like that.
Instead you would have a well incentivised executive board (government) containing people who would carry out the policies the majority set for them with the threat of the sack if they didn't work effectively to achieve their goals
Parliament is just a joke, and don't get me started on the House of Lords.....
Left/Right/Red/Green/Center these do not matter. There is no ideological commitment from any parties. What matters is the end Result. Judge the competence by that. Because:
"In Theory - there is no difference between Theory and Practice,
In Practice - there is"
