First Pint Free (not 6p as it is against the law) Press release: A Greene King spokesperson said: “Our pub and brewery teams are so excited to be celebrating the Queen’s Platinum Jubilee with a variety of events this week. One of the ideas we had was for a promotion in 400 of our managed pubs where customers could buy one pint each of Greene King IPA for 6p today – the same price it was in 1952. We thought this was a great way to celebrate this remarkable occasion and we’ve been thrilled at the response from customers. However, we have some good news for everyone, which is that we will now be giving the Jubilee first pint of Greene King IPA away free of charge today, as we now understand it’s not permissible under the licensing act to charge the 6p. Just remember to use the keyword ‘1952’ and check whether your local pub is running the offer plus further details at greeneking-pubs.co.uk/my-…cal. Cheers everyone.”

You know it’s a shocking beer when you don’t even consider going for 6p hah …You know it’s a shocking beer when you don’t even consider going for 6p haha.

A shocking beer? You really don't know your ales if you think that.

Shocking is a la Worthington's, Tetley's and even John Smith's.

Although nothing spectacular and certainly not an IPA, Greene King IPA isn't bad. Same water and malt strains used as old speckled hen and abbot ale which gives it that similar base flavour. Easy enough to have a few of without getting slaughtered.

It's so called "craft beer" that's shocking. Real ale that some breweries have decided to market as craft beer so it appeals to hipsters and they can justify selling in smaller quantities for more money. 330ml cans of beer only became a thing when craft beer took off.

Its actually worked for the "craft" breweries though where many drinkers are brainwashed into only drinking something marketed as "craft beer" while turning their nose up at anything labelled "real ale", because they have been lead to believe that craft beer is better.

Conclusively as an ale connoisseur I can honestly say I've never tried anything labelled as craft beer that tastes better than anything labelled as real ale. Even that marshmallow, plum salted caramel ultra organic craft porter for £6 a pint will have something the same or better labelled as real ale for half the price. (edited)

Taking Mrs Bellboys and she will also utter the immortal numbers 1952 so 2 pints for 12p. I then plan to return to the bar after a minute or 2 and get Mrs B a G&T stating she doesn't like the pint and proceed to quoff the 2 pints myself. Is this dastardly plan a goer or not? Be honest now (edited)

It's an absolutely fine low % IPA.

Much better than a lot of the lager and '£7 a half' craft pish out there.

Should be a great tube pass (free over 60's) day for me The West Ends will be the 1st stop
Now it's been a while since I've been on a 10-pint crawl, but just might have a go, IPA has always been a good session ale at 3.6%!?! So maybe I'll get home OK!

3.6 for an IPA is very poor, it was originally brewed very strong abv so it would make its passage to India hence the term India Pale Ale

Guy behind the bar flat out refused the offer and gave the name of the nearest pub which, according to him, was participating.
Why doing countrywide offer and press briefings if the biggest establishment in the area is not honouring it?
Rather disappointed experience... Not a fan of IPAs but for free I would have never refused. Ended up in Wetherspoon down the road...
