Is there a good portable alternative that doesn't require being plugged into the mains (I have on street parking so can't really access a mains easily)?

Also would this be better than a jump starter or does it do the same thing?

Jump starter would be for if the car is dead and you need to go now, this would be if you think the battery is weak but you have time to charge it. If you can't change it while in the car, you can remove the battery from the car and charge it indoors.

This is one the few items I’ve bought that has actually gone up in price - most I buy seem to either get cheaper else stay around the same price.
    I paid £49 in 2017.
Still working well though I have a Ctek 0.8 amp version also which I find more useful.

Paid that in 2014 so its held it price quite well really. £15 in 10years is quite a fair rise.

I paid £79 for my 7.0 version more than 13 years ago and still use it on a regular basis for our cars and motorbikes. Wouldn't be without one. Bullet proof.

And I paid £69.90 almost 2 years ago on Amazon for this 5.0 version (for a family member). (edited)

Which one would be better? This one or the Stanley one posted a few days ago?

I have this for my motorbike which I leave on charge all of the time - paid £55 in September 2021

I bought the Stanley one yesterday as it is an 8A charger, so faster charging for car batteries and almost a third of the price of this one.

Can these be attached to the battery without disconnecting it from the car.... And is it safe to do this.

Check in your owners manual but usually yes. If its a modern car with battery monitoring, attach the positive to the battery and the negative to an earth point (bare metal) on the car chassis under the bonnet.

These are good, I have one good to give my battery a boost once in a while when battery goes low the start/stop stops working this brings levels back to normal ranges.

Do car batteries not charge when you drive?
    bensbb's avatar
This is for when you leave your car parked up, like if you have a classic or sports car in the garage for sunny days, etc
