A faster GPU & 2GB vRAM for GPU is definitely worth the money.
Very pleased with it, plays AAA on max settings; and I have no complaints about the screen. I was worried about the 250 nits, but it’s plenty bright enough inside and I don’t game outside. The colour accuracy is supposedly poor, but for gaming that’s not really important. Super hot price under £700. If your looking for a sub £1000 laptop, for gaming, you will not be disappointed. Only thing I had to do was upgrade ram to 16gb and I also put another 1tb nvme while I had the back off.
You sure it was Legion? I'm pretty sure that was the ideapad gaming. They are of a difference class.
.....more ram to start with. Great starter price!
250 nits, sir.
Previous best was 729 if memory serves, so great price! Maybe it was 719...I paid 729 in March. (edited)
Screen on this model is horrible aswell, yours is far better
Not really. It's the worst of the Legion screens.
It's a fair price considering, but I prioritize screen over some of the other features and for that reason got the 165Hz screen version.
Cheers mate! It's fun ngl
Yes cheaper models because lower powered 3060.. 90w tdp I recall??
Vs the legion's 130w tdp (rough figures).
The cheaper models like Ideapad, have no mux switch, so can't unlock that extra power of the 3060 card. I presume the screens are similar based on the specs. Some claim the benchmark difference for various AAA games in real terms, were so small between these models, they recommended to buy the Ideapad actually. Price to performance ratio..value etc.
The issue is the legion is heavier due to it's higher power AC Power supply/brick, to give you that extra performance.. so that, plus the questionable display (for both models above) isn't everyone's cuppa tea..
Like most things, it depends on your use
3060 laptops have been as cheap as £542 from this same retailer/brand just FYI.
250 nits
Same thing. They all lead to the education store.
I recently got the £960 Ryzen, 3070 version. Is having a circa 25% better gpu over the Intel, 3060 version worth another £260? Probably not.
Edit: to be fair, the £960 also had double the ram and ssd too. (edited)
Not very bright
Was it easy to take the back off.
To interject.... I've taken the back off these a few times now. I wouldn't call it easy, but it is manageable if you're careful. It requires you to unscrew 10 small screws on the back, and then use something like a spudger, guitar pick or credit card/loyalty card (that you don't want anymore!), and gently prise the back plate away from the top plate. The more difficult bit is getting the credit card/guitar pick in between the sides and side air vents sections, as it's quite tight just there.
The danger is in breaking the clips that hold the top from bottom cases, but I haven't done that with about 5 of these Legions so far.
Could you please share an example?
Exactly my reasoning also.
The 165hz is the QHD model right? Ye theres a pretty big jump up in price unfortunately. How much was yours?
My local Curry's (small branch) only has the legion 5 FHD, or legion 5 pro with QHD screen so it's hard for me to be sure if that would truly be the same panel as the normal legion 5 with QHD panel (posted here recently). I'm sure I can check psref site later.
All the Legions very nice looking machines.
Only you can answer that for yourself. It's dull, lifeless and inaccurate. Best go and play with one somewhere to see if it bothers you.
If you mean 4k or similarly high res screen, then mine isn't.
Just standard 1080p
I also have my son on the previous 144hz 1080p screen and that's great too. (edited)
Furthermore has anyone seen these 2 screens side by side?
Or any review vids/youtubes showing it?
I checked this ages ago but it's been too long now.
Cheers
Yeah, this is defo a nicer build and design than the Ideapad gaming. For the same price you can get the ideapad with a 5600H, 3060, and a 165Hz 300nit screen: lenovo.com/gb/…047
Not sure about the GPU wattage between the two. Voted hot though!
I said ‘this same retailer/brand’
The retailer is Digital River and the brand is Lenovo.
So at no point did I state it was from the Legion range, and the person I replied to said ‘great price for a 3060 laptop’ - if the only criteria is 3060 then it’s useful to know that actual 3060 laptops have been £150 cheaper.
I’ve got no idea what your point is.
Someone else stated that this was a good price for a 3060 laptop, and I pointed out that 3060 laptops have been £150 cheaper.
I wasn’t saying anything else about any features or models or ranges or build quality or TDP or whatever, I was just pointing out that laptops containing an RTX3060 chip have been much cheaper.
The point is they are different versions of the 3060.. but ok, no worries.
I then briefly explained why and the main reasons (in my opinion) why one would buy one over the other.
Figured it would be helpful to someone
No more difficult than most laptops, as always use gentle pressure, so you don’t snap the plastic clips.
