    So, couple of things.

    1. Download the LG Sound bar app from Google play store, connect it to sound bar (it will show the bar in the list) and do wireless software update.
    2. It sounds great for what it is. Not as good as Samsung Q600A, BUT it's 3x cheaper. My preferred mode is Bass mode with treble set to 5. Standard is similar to my TV speakers, and DTS X is lacking, very plain. AI sounds similar to Standard. Bass is way to go. Cars sound great in Gran Turismo, shooting sounds great and has punch in Deathloop Call of Duty and with Treble set to 5 watching movies is great as well, as bass is punchy but you can also hear what they're saying.

Bottom line. Happy I've paid £79, but would happily pay £200 as well.

Received mine yesterday so been testing it a bit. I find it a great improvement over the tv speakers where we would sometimes struggle to hear speech in movies when the scene was loud, that was the main thing I was looking for and this delivers on that excellently.

For general tv use I turn the sub off and with the soundbar on alone it is again a great improvement. Now it is possible my tv speakers are really bad as it is not high end by any stretch and any soundbar would be an improvement but this is much better than i expected.

For movies and series on Netflix etc with the sub on it takes it to another level. As others have said I prefer bass boost setting for this and just put on standard for normal tv

So all in all, definitely worth £79 and probably more. I have had 5.1 surround in the past and no soundbar is ever going to match that on its own. And for all the Sonos comparisons you can’t really compare with the different prices, I love Sonos have had a Play 3 since 09 really top quality products so just comes down to what you want to spend. I didn’t want to spend that much so really happy with this lg soundbar at this price.

Just to add I have put the Sub in the corner behind the sofas, gives a little more of a surround feel I think. was worried it might be too far away to pair but it does straight away no problem (edited)

I dropped everything to set it up for you guys . Have set up with PS5 and tested with the new Obi-Wan Kenobi on Disney+. I love it. Absolutely love it. I spilt my coffee as I'm not used to this level of sound all at once. My kids are curious and can't work out where all the sound is coming from either. For £79...this really is a top hukd. Edit: watching Hey Duggee with the preset bass option has never been more terrifying. Edit2: I can only assume a bad review for this system is due to user error of setting up, simply put it's worth every penny and more. I'd buy at £179 if I had known it was this good.47576717-dxSIb.jpg (edited)

Which? verdict: Even at the cheap price, it's not worth buyingThe LG SN4 is a disappointing sound bar, with poor audio quality. In this instance, budget price means budget performance. Check out our recommended models instead.
    Pros
    • Easy to use
    Cons
    • Dull sound quality
    • Muffled speech
    • Boomingly loud volume

Not sure if anyone reads this thread anymore but I have found by far the best setting for this unit, with the clearest dialogue, to be:

    WF -6
    Treble +3
    Bass 0

    Hope it helps someone.
    JackAllard's avatar
Was messing around for a little bit when I got it and settled on near these settings too. Bass on anything higher makes it even muddier. Ended up returning the unit and getting a sonos beam (appreciate it’s a different price category but this was on the currys clearance deal for 160). (edited)

Underwhelming sound. For the original price of £179 it is not worth it. For £79 its bareable but i would not recommend it. Ive paired this up with an old panasonic plasma and its only the subwoofer that gives it the slight edge. Without the sub sound is terrible.

Mine arrived today, I must say it is exactly what I needed to improve the lacklustre sound from the thin sounding Samsung q95t. I will give you guys a little mini review based on my own experience, first up the out the box settings weren't ideal for my room and the dreaded 90hz bass boom was smothering and muddying the sound so I systematically tried all the built-in dsp presets, AI generally has a sharper sound than standard but less low end. Bass mode is good for music once set up correctly and dts mode seems to cause the sound to suffer phase related issues unless the correct signal is engaged eg: (DTS) so I set it to Standard. Now on to the fun stuff, I have my tv at an angle in my room and the sub is at the back of my tv stand which resulted in it behaving like it was corner loaded, corner loading increases the bass on average 6 to 9 db's and as the subs port tuning sucks as it is tuned high resulted in massive upper bass boom and to top it off the sub handles the lower mid to bass bands so it weren't a great place to put it as the upper bass became plummy and boxy. Now for my fix, I turned the treble to +4, bass to -5, and WF to +4 then I re-tuned the sub by blocking the bass port with foam as this effectively turned the sub in to a sealed enclosure and cut the bass boom to the point it's now sounding allot deeper and the sound has much better dynamics so all in all very happy and what a great bargain too.

Got mine today I'm no audiophile and haven't had time to mess with it yet or even see if I can. Sounds a little trebly/tinny to me compared to the TV speakers but also might just be getting used to the new sound. Easy to set up the firestick with it though

This soundbar has an artificial intelligence mode where it detects what's playing and adjusts settings automatically, maybe worth you trying out.

Got mine today. Can't say it's a massive improvement on the TV sound (TV is Philips Ambilight). I did connect via Bluetooth, tried HDMI, couldn't get that to work. Not sure if Bluetooth is the issue, sub is working ok, but certainly doesn't blow me away. Also, remote switches on my Surround sound system too - Grrr
[ UPDATE ] Got HDMI & optical to work. Quite a difference in quality between all three!! HDMI (Arc) is by far the best. So in order of quality:
    HDMI (Arc) - the best
Optical - close to HDMI but not quite as good
Bluetooth - basic, similar to TV sound, not recommended
    Hope this helps! (edited)
    dreamypuma's avatar
When connecting via HDMI, did you connect to a HDMI port that is ARC / eARC enabled?

Think the soundbar will have two HDMI ports, the other end from the TV should go into the input on the soundbar.

Additionally ensure that CEC is enabled on your TV menu. TV manufacturers call CEC various things such as Viera Link, Anynet, Simplink, Bravia Link, Easy Link etc.

Failing that use an optical (Toslink) cable.

Bluetooth will usually sound a naff. (edited)

Went today to have a listen to this soundbar in a local John Lewis. I'll be honest, I wasn't impressed.

Sounded quite muffled/tinny. Had to crank up the volume to 18+ before I could hear anything.

Do think my experience reflects the comments made by Which review.

    Considering cancellation.
    dreamypuma's avatar
Depends. I rarely find high street stores like John Lewis have audio equipment connected to demonstrate optimally, certainly not the best environments either.

What exactly was the sound bar lacking and how was it demonstrated?

No experience of this bar in particular, but I've ordered this, as at £79 it should be fine for my shed.

From what I've read on this thread, there's plenty of negative comments, but no one has been able to meaningfully describe the negatives. (edited)

Right guys so i've just had a play about with it and i'm a bit underwhelmed. I have a kef 2005.2 with denon reciever and i've heard quite a few high end set ups so I have some experience with good audio. I can't expect this to be anywhere near as good but to be honest I don't think it's a big enough step up from the standard audio on my B9 oled.

Vocal clarity is just ok, no step up from my tv.
Gives a fuller sound than my tv speakers but bass is a bit boomy.
It's ok for £79 but I think I was expecting a slightly better performance.

Bought this because my KEF setup is in storage due to the lack of space in my new house.

Only keep it if you have a budget TV with tinny sound. For everyone else i'de pay more for a much better sound. (edited)

Hi, have switched from PCM to Neo 2.5 and sounds much better. Also, another setting under HMDI Audio format I have 2 options: PCM or Bitream, any suggestions on which one is better? PCM is noticeably louder on lower volume. (edited)

    Replying to

Hi sorry to the poster who I hijacked your question from as it was somewhat incorrect, you want to use bitstream or passthrough if they are available to you.

Ideally you would use bitstream as this caries dolby digital and dts signals, pcm doesn't in modern tv's as they are bandwidth limited to surround mixed down to stereo. The signal bitstream carries is usually pre decoded but in some cases with different setups you may see the setting listed as passthrough which still is the one you want ideally. On a side note if you own a firestick or anything else such as a games console they usually have the bitstream setting too or in the firesticks case dolby digital, Choose dolby digital not dolby digital plus under the audio settings, the reason for this is the firestick will attempt to send dolby digital plus that caries atmos and on samsung tv's this will negate the passthrough function (equivalent to other tv's bitstream setting) and engage the auto mode which is a better choice than pcm but won't properly exchange the signal you want the soundbar to recieve (you can tell if this is the case if passthrough is greyed out but auto is available still). I’d rather save more money and get a refurbished Sonos beam for £269.

This is false economy. It will sound dreadful.

You need to spend an optimum amount to get good sound quality. This won’t cut it, as seen in the awful reviews.

Anyone that is truly happy with the sound this produces doesn’t have a good reference point and their opinion shouldn’t be trusted.

Just because something is ‘cheap’, doesn’t mean you have to buy it.

Yes, make sure you activate Anynet+ HDMI CEC in your Samsung and then in sound settings change audio to go through HDMI.

    For T/Q, R/Q, N/Q, and M/Q series smart TVs (from 2017)
    Home> Settings> General> External device management> Anynet + (HDMI CEC)

For K series Smart TV (2016)
    Home> Settings> System> Expert settings> Anynet + (HDMI-CEC)

For Smart TV up to the J series (2015)
    Menu> System> Anynet + (HDMI-CEC)

Soundbar has now arrived and I've tested it with the C1.

There is a notable difference in quality having the soundbar connected up.

I think for £79 (or £59 in my case) it was worth the expense. But don't expect too much from the system as it is basic with limited functionality.

Crazy to think the JL site now has it listed at over £200

I will probably look to invest in a better spec sound bar but, for now, this will suffice. (edited)

Mine arrived today, and I think I was a bit hasty with pulling the trigger on what could be considered a bargain.
I'm trying to use it with an Acer Predator xb323qk monitor, and a Legion 5 laptop, a Series S and PS5.
The monitor has 2 x HDMI 2.1, Displayport 1.4, 2 USB ports and a 3.5mm aux port. The inbuilt speakers are 4 watt and awful!
The only way I can connect it with hindsight, is via bluetooth to the laptop, and that results in a small, but noticeable audio lag.
Connecting the soundbar to the HDMI Arc port and then to the monitor's 2.1 HDMI port results in nothing. I assume that the Series S and PS5 could be connected, if I bought a USB bluetooth dongle, but again, with audio lag.
I think it needs to be returned. Shame really, as the audio quality is a massive step up from the monitor's internal speakers.
    sweetflexx's avatar
Hi, what gpu does your laptop use? It should support audio over hdmi, go to sound settings on your computer and look and see if the default sound output is set to pass over hdmi, if all is set there connect the hdmi out from your laptop to the input of the soundbar and the arc out to your monitor. Let me know how this goes, If possible pm me as I will try and help you find a solution, bluetooth is not great as lag will be introduced as the soundbar does not support aptx low latency or such codecs but if you can get optical out from your laptop using an external usb audio interface then it should sort your issue out. Did anyone put their sub next to their sound bar or away somewhere in a corner of their room?

Also is Bass Boost the best setting?

I’ve connected mine via Bluetooth to a LG TV. Don’t honestly notice much difference between that and Arc. (edited)
    sweetflexx's avatar
Hi I would say it depends on how much space you have for placement of the sub as putting the sub near a wall will generally reinforce the bass, but corner loading it may give you allot of undesirable bass boom, also the sub has a high crossover frequency even though it's wireless and requires it to be placed close to the sound bar as you will detect it's placement if it is to far away from the soundbar. Best course of action if you want more bass is to place it in close proximity to a corner being mindful that it's not to far away from the soundbar and turn the bass to -5 and turn up the WF to +3 to +5 and set the treble to +4, take note that the standard mode has more dynamic range for films but if it's music the bass mode may suite you better. One last thing if bass boom becomes a problem the solution is to use foam sponge to block the bass port effectively re-tuning the speaker, typically ported subs are more acoustically effected by being placed close to walls and this sub is tuned for strong upper bass rather than low deep bass.

Plugged mine in for a quick test with musical films on Netflix and YouTube live music

What a difference over the standard sound
I've a Sony BRAVIA KD55A8BU , haven't put it with the lg Oled in the man cave yet , probably won't bother

My TV is in the corner of the room wall mounted , when flat against the wall , it's sounds better so I lose quality having the TV at an angle as needs to be flat against the wall really

My sofas are corner ones so we view diagonally across the room with the sub behind the sofas

Pick up of the sub us great as doesn't click on and off like others I've had , approx 18ft apart so quite impressive

First impressions , yes it's a little tinny , depending on what you watch and you may have to tweak the settings a bit

I certainly wouldn't watch the news or a documentary with it , it's more movies and music for a better surrounding sound as we found with our backs to the sub facing the TV

Definitely needs the sub in my opinion to back the speaker up

We watched mamma Mia and had the volume up quite loud and viewing experience was much better as the sub aids the speaker

A bit like your car has crap speakers , put a sub woofer in the boot and transforms the sound altogether

To be honest I'd have bought this at £179 and I haven't set it up properly yet

Even the missus said "that sound much better " , I've done something right for once

I'm not a sound guru and there will always be something better out there , but not for £79 in my opinion

Mixed opinions on here still , suppose it's what you want out of it , location of speakers , room size and how far your sat from it and what your watching

I'm happy and I bought 2 in the end , gonna gift our son the other one , he'll be well chuffed as I am

Thanks again op for sharing the deal , amazing and glad I got them
