Seems like a decent price. I'm more looking for last gen to become cheaper because of this.

    12GB is overkill, wish they had kept it at 8GB and reduced the price.

    8GB isn't enough for these mid-range cards

    Done a fair bit of reading and it seems like 4xxx series aside from 4090 has been a huge let down interms of high prices and lack of vram (e.g Last of us PC port) and minimal performance upgrade from previous gen. I am going to wait for 5xxx series.

    Not sure how so many are convinced by the idea of "aside from the 4090" being of "value". It's worth as much as a entire new capable PC. The 4xxx series is certainly an avoid from me and seriously never really considering Nvidia again.

    Hopefully we'll see some of the significant price drops over here that they are talking about in the land where the customer is king (the US) on the RX 6950 XT and RX 6800 XT, though it's hard to compare prices because my friends in the US enjoy the culture of coupons, significant cashback, bundle deals and in-store special offers that... Anyway!

    Still, here's hoping that competition will bring the price of the 4070 down, not holding my breath wise.

    This kinda price drop on the 6950xt?

    Its £50 more expensive but beats the 4070 quite comfortably. Has a free copy of the last of us to sweeten the deal too

    I'm on the fence about upgrading to this from a 3070 ti, not because of performance, because of the lower power consumption. I probably won't but it's tempting. (edited)

    Not really worth the move. Undervolt your card instead, you should see some decent results. Here is an article on it.. igorslab.de/en/…/4/

    My 6800XT draws around 200W on average across most modern titles, and 100-150W in older/less demanding games. I usually limit fps to match my refresh rate to further control power consumption especially in SP games. (edited)

    What do people think about the pricing lol

    It's basically a low power (about 150w less) RTX 3080 with 2GB more VRAM..obviously a good thing but I got a 3080 on launch day for £660! The pricing seems off

    The fact we're now paying £589 for a midrange GPU is pretty depressing in honesty.

    Also Nvidia should be taking £100 off their 3060/3060ti/3070 cards now the 4070 is out otherwise those other ones don't make sense at their current prices anymore, but I'm sure they won't!

    Feels good seeing these not being sold out. Hopefully this sends a clear message from consumers.

    Mid range being £580+ is depressing.

    They will sell out though as your basically buying a 3080 for lot less...

    4070 Ti = £529
    4070 = £479
    3070 Ti = £429
    3070 = £379
    3060 Ti = £329
    3060 = £279

    This is what they should be about now, maybe in a few months. (edited)

    Interesting as i read that Third party companies were upset with Nvidia for charging to little for what is effectively 4060 card. They might be breaking even at these prices but cant confirm this 100%

    I think the only merit to this card is the fact that for the average user just popping it into their system and playing games, it uses 100w less power than anything of similar or greater performance. And at the current cost of energy, if you play 4 hours of modern games a day, that's a saving of almost £50 a year on your energy bill.
    Rad's avatar
    Rad
    Not the only merit tbf... The 4070 is about as fast as the 6800xt with all the bells & whistles of next gen. Also when 12gb vram becomes an issue simply turn things down. By that time the 6800xt will probably not have the GPU guts either so its 16gb vram won't be of much use. Content creation + power efficiency with 6800xt performance at around £60 more is worth it I think. If you have a gfx card & you can wait for prices to come down then great do that cause they will come down. If you have nothing... Then I think the 4070 is an ok purchase at sub £600 at this moment but no more. (edited)

    i,mm laughing so hard i think i have followed through.Nvidia greed at its finest,barely worth 500 quid imho,makes you wonder if the 406o ti is going to be around 500 quid though which is an even bigger joke,keep supporting these rises then you better expect more of the same.been waiting for a pc upgrade for 3 years now,looks like i,l be waiting a bit longer then,but if things dont change pretty soon then i,mm done with pc gaming.oh and dont get me started with the 3 series pricing lmao.

    The fact that people are excited to buy these and think these are decent value is just depressing. Y'all are really gonna help destroy the whole GPU market forever. It does NOT need to be like this. It's not something we just have to accept. Nvidia can and will lower prices if sales are low enough.
    t1redmonkey's avatar
    t1redmonkey
    to be fair i think most people on this site are not excited about this card at this price point, hence why it's only at 29 degrees on the heat rating.

    I've got the 2080 super and just can't see where the value is in upgrading to a 40 series card at the current prices. Might wait to see what the 50 series offers.

    I remember in 2003 buying the ati radeon 9800 pro bundled with half life 2 (top dog card for it's day) for around £200, good times.

    Obvious 20 years ago, so inflation, but cmon nvidia are taking the p..

    I wonder if I can still get a decent price for my 3080. Bit of a sidegrade, but might be worth it for dlss 3. Frame generation seems kinda necessary in some recent games.

    I just got a 3080ti from having a 1080. Definitely wouldn't upgrade from a 3080, dial down the settings a tad, be happy you're part of the "good" generation of Nvidia and not this nonsense of the 4000 series.

    you can get a used 3080/3080ti for around the same price, avoid this card unless you need a dual slot card for a small pc

    The price for 4070 is ridiculous, but the TDP on 3080/3080ti almost twice higher than 4070 at almost the same performance, plus 4070 has DLSS 3 support.

    The prices will come down in time now that eth mining isn't profitable.

    The mining crisis created unlimited demand for the 3 series - why wouldn't you buy one if you could, given that it paid back in 2 months max? Especially once you set up a bot to buy them - it was easy money for almost no work.

    Nvidia lied throughout it claiming the cards were not being bought for mining but they had no way of tracking that. (edited)

    Now there's AI which has the potential to be a much larger revenue stream for Nvidia and divert a lot of resources towards it, which may end up raising prices even further.

    I wouldn't touch these MSI 4070 Ventus 3x cards with a barge pole guys... They have no thermal pads on their vram components. They are simply relying on Airflow on to plastic capped vrams. No way to add thermal pads either as open fins are all that is near them. Also only have a plastic backing shield. Guru3d did a break down and found the vrams near the power connector is hitting ~96.5°C. Doesn't bode well for longevity. The 4070's run fast as hell at low wattage with next gen toys. I finally had to bite as I've been without a gfx card for more than a year playing games with my 5700g igpu but it just can't cut it anymore. If I had a GPU I'd definitely wait till I could get it at about £500 but sub £600 the metal back plated Gigabyte 4070 windforce oc is such a great visual experience. It's worth it to me at this time so I don't have to wait till the end of summer. Good luck with your choice & have fun! (edited)
