The better version, with metal analog sticks, 2 foot extra cable length, and two extra buttons as paddles on the back is also available for £22.99 when it is £34.99 on Amazon.

I like PDP's Ikonic collection of Switch controllers so I will give the pro version a go for £22.99 as the extra buttons may come in handy for smash. Cheers OP.

Depends, the PDP feels etter in my larger hands, in terms of dead zones etc the Hori is better.

Thanks! Is the Hori even better than the PDP Deluxe one?

I've not tried the deluxe pad, but I don't imagine the internals will be different, the analogue sticks in the standard edition will be the same in the deluxe with a metal cap on. Not many shooters on the Switch either, so I'm not sure how much use you'll get out of the extra paddle buttons.

Nearly all of the controllers that work on switch work on other platforms. I'm glad that Nintendo finally made a console that has alot more intercompatibility between controllers and other devices. It's refreshing. (most of the wired controllers are USB, and most of the wireless ones are standard bluetooth). Also they made the button mapping fairly compatible and inter-operable aswell,. So while i don't own this specific controller, it certainl;y has been true of the many others i have used, and I would imagine that this one is aswell, with a pretty high probability. (even moreso for PC, as with PCs you have a fair amount of additional things you can do to configure controllers, and failing that, often drivers you can install, etc, than you can on closed systems like consoles). But even most of the controllers are compatible straight out of the box without any special config needed. (I can even use my joycons on PC, even though the button layout is slightly different due to it having 4 shoulder buttons instead of two in split joycon mode). I do this on steam all the time. (and even on a few emulators).

I’m confused. Is this an actual controller or just a face plate to go on a pro controller?

also I’m not sure what pdp is - does this work with a Nintendo switch?

My kids would love another controller but I’m not paying £55 so this could be great.

PDP is the manufacturer. They make the "afterglow" pads.

This is a version of their wired controller, that has changeable face-plates. These aren't wireless controllers, they need to be plugged in to work, though strangely, the USB cable is removable on most of their wired Switch controllers. (edited)

Thanks for answering (less the sarcastic response), on the eBay shop there are pictures of a faceplate alone which is why I asked.

I want to love 8bitdo but when I bought the snes with sticks version and tried it with the switch many flaws were present, the dpad was useless for dragon punch motions, the sticks are not calibrated very well, the only good thign was the buttons felt great.

The calibration might have improved with a firmware update, unless you'd already tried that? I would rather take the risk with 8bitdo instead of forking out £60 for a pro controller.

PDP controllers usually have a dead zone on the sticks. Not as bad as some manufacturers, but if you're sensitive to the feel, you might be best sticking to official stuff.

I've just picked up the Deluxe version of this for £22.99 and I have to say it is fantastic. The analog sticks are as smooth as butter and the buttons don't feel cheap and nasty. I'm not too keen on the glossiness of the Mario and Luigi faceplates though.

If anyone bought the Star themed one and wants to swap the face plate for the Mario or Luigi one then just drop me a message

The Wii U was the same, the classic controllers for that are all standard Bluetooth, if they weren't still so expensive, I'd have a couple for steam.

Interesting! Which Classic Controller did you have? You definitely must be using a different type of Classic Controller to the ones I had. On the WiiU, there was alot less inter-compatibility with controllers generally. (The ones I had that were also called the Classic Controllers were wired controllers, with a Wii Nun-Chuck socket on them. You basically plugged them into the bottom of a Wii Remote, and the infa-red sensor of the wii remote acted as the wireless transmitter between the controller and the WiiU. It was a very strange system. Then the actual Pro Controllers had two versions, one was wired which was standard USB, and the other was Wireless, but only compatible with the WiiU (and only for games that supported it)

More recently, there have been drivers made available to allow them to be used on other devices (PC being naturally the easiest to do that for given as you can do alot more with them generally than you can with a closed source console) but also the Switch had various firmware updates making them compatible with all sorts of controllers, and dongles now exist that allow it to be used with even the WiiU ones (despite Nintendo not actually wanting you to do that, so that you have to buy the switch pro controller). But Switch is definitily one of the most intercompatible consoles that Nintendo have done so far (and about time!), but I do really appreciate how that's finally the case! I wish the firmware went the other way round though (where you could use joycons and switch pro controllers on the WiiU). Despite having a Switch, I still play my WiiU quite alot, but I hate how the blooming wii remotes need physical batteries every time, whereas joycons have better motion sensors and can be recharged, so would have been way better). but alas, as they have now discontinued the WiiU, I very much doubt such a firmware update for that will ever be made available. I would love to see someone make some kind of dongle or something that would make that possible though, As much as I love my switch, I am still very fond of my WiiU and play it often (despite that certain hardware on it is a bit dated now like the physical battery issue etc, and the lack of controller support, many of the games on it are excellent, It's such an underrated llitle console!) and lots of games I'm still yet to fully play on it, that I keep coming back to.
