I just got this saw and it does slide, just isn't compound (angles both ways for mitres instead of just one)

I think people are getting confused... All mitre saws do compound cuts (cuts that are not square in either the horizontal or vertical plane). The cheap saws are single bevel, meaning they only tip one way (like this one). The more expensive ones tip both to the left and the right - meaning loads more opportunity for the saw to be inaccurate.

This is a dangerous tool with lots of opportunities to lose fingers, hands (or even eyes if splinters go flying). At £100, it is going to be missing all the bits that make a more expensive saw nice to use and will be hard to get to cut accurately. It's missing soft start so will buck in your hands when you start it - which does not help accuracy and makes you more likely to lose a finger. As does the rubbish blade it will come with.

I have done thousands of cuts on a mitre saw and unless you are a roofer, I very much doubt you need to do any compound cuts at all. The vast, vast majority of my cuts are 90 degree cuts and for that, you need consistent accuracy (which I very much doubt you can get for £100).

My advice - save your money and buy a 2nd hand Makita, Dewalt or Elektra Beckum on Facebook for the same price.

Had my eye on it a few weeks back, but now under £100. Something I actually need too, so a double win!

Isn't the saw in the picture the compound sliding saw not the one that you will actually receive?

Was looking to get the Titan 210mm (TTB794MSW)* from Screwfix soon. Is the Scheppach Mitre Saw HM216 better?

Main benefits I can see with the Scheppach vs. the Titan is that it has a 2000w motor + 3yr warranty. Not 100% sure if this is sliding like the Titan.

*Can't post link to it as HUKD has banned links to Screwfix

The picture shows a sliding saw but there is no mention of it sliding in the description. There is another sliding compound saw for £129 which looks the same saw but the description describes it as a sliding saw. I think the pictures for this one may be incorrect. Hopefully someone who has purchased this may be able to confirm.

Will this actually cut to any precision or usual Aldi rough-and-ready stuff?

Very good saw. I got this for £75 and it's as good as any of the more expensive ones and very easy to use. Useless instructions book though

There’s another one for £160 which does compound mitre cuts. Decisions? Which to buy… (edited)

Can we use this to cut long length?
