Not a bad price

The BLACK+DECKER WM301 Workmate Workbench has been designed with keen DIYers and their limitless projects in mind. Its design is simple, making it easy to set up and clean up and, most importantly, Workmate allows the user to work safely and focus on the project. The Workmate allows you to fix the piece you are working on to the workbench so that you can work on it with both hands without the risk of it moving during the application.

This workbench holds securely virtually any materials up to 115 mm in width and weighting up to 160 kg. Thanks to its dual clamping cranks, you can work on irregular shaped items and, together with adjustable swivel pegs and jaw retention grooves, the workbench delivers even higher clamping versatility and reliable material hold.

Durable steel frame construction makes the workbench robust and sturdy. In addition, workbench legs have rubber, anti-slip feet fitted to avoid any risk of slippage when force is applied during the application.

The WM301 is lightweight and compact and can be folded flat, making it easy to store it and convenient to transport. It is easy to set up and quick to clean up not requiring any additional maintenance.

  • Working height: 760 mm
  • Folded size: 630 x 890 x 130 mm (W x H x D)
  • Vice jaw opening: 0 – 115 mm
  • Vice jaw length: 610 mm
  • Maximum load: 160 kg

Completely random question, but would these be OK to cut big logs into smaller logs?

In practical terms no. You can though make V supports (serration to prevent log spinning) and clamp in the workmate jaws, or use clamps in the workmate jaws designed for the task (so slowwww clamping and unclamping). I assume you are using a chainsaw? Do you mean big logs (large diameter) or long logs say perhaps just 8" diameter? Large diameter logs are typically cut on the deck where they lay with just a small piece of wood such as a section of 3"x3" fencepost to keep it off the deck. Long thinner jogs can be cut using a loggers mate or saw horse. One thing I do know is that one person feeding logs into a saw horse and another person cutting is the way forward.

EDIT: I FINALLY FOUND A VERY CHEAP, SIMPLY AND WORKABLE SOLUTION TO ADAPTING A WORKBENCH INTO A SAWHORSE. FOR ADDED GRIP ON LOGS I WOULD PUT A FEW SCREWS IN THE FACES THAT COME INTO CONTACT WITH THE LOG, LEAVING THEM PROUD BY 2 OR 3mm

Surprised at those saying it's lightweight. I mean it's £20, it's not going to be trade quality, but just used the one I got from the last deal to build an 8m pergola. Was fine cutting 75x75 timber and aluminium supports and doing all the joints. Absolutely fine for DIY.

The instructions to build are useless so use a YouTube video. (edited)

The worst work bench I've ever used! As Deedie said above just pay that little bit extra and get something worthwhile. I really don't recommend this product, not even for £20!

wish i had of bought one of them years ago. if you need one of these regularly, do yourself a favour and put the extra £30 to it and buy the keter/mcallister work bench. you wont regret it (edited)

The hot offer was for a far superior version of the Workmate

Lightweight flimsy rubbish but great as a basic cheap bench and worth this money.

Great for the money, although a word of warning that assembling them is a bit of a DIY job in itself.

    So hard to build 😫

Be careful assembling it, not that easy. Putting the caps on the handles seemed impossible, trapped some skin in mine!

Hold them with a pair of pliers/plumbing grips, give them a sharp tap with a hammer. They are a dumb design though.

Probably can trust this with very lightweight work, if only. Or for kids to have fun with tools. But for £20 you can't expect more.

The workmate plus for £60 on the same page is a good deal too.

Will it hold a petrol lawnmower

Bought 2 of these over 25 years ago, still going strong. Look exactly the same to me.

    100% recommended at this price
