are they reliable? I have a western digital I need to replace that's around 10 years old and still working perfectly. Just need more space.

If you only have one single copy on one disk, of your data, nothing is 100% reliable.

I needed some big storage quickly and ended up getting a Toshiba S300 6TB at CEX for £59.95 delivered, 0 power on hours, 7 power cycles, manufactured Apr22. Depends what you’re looking for and what you’re storing I guess.

Can also look at SAS drives for literal pennies if you have a controller card.

Any reccomendations on buying SAS drives cheaply, if you have personal experience that is?

Are these SMR drives any one can tell me?

All Barracuda are SMR drives including Ironwolf. Only the Pro versions are CMR.

I’ve only got nine/ssd at moment. Can any owners comment on how noisy this hdd is. Thanks in advance

Not an owner, but size and spin speed means you won’t get much quieter from mechanical HDD

That's a pretty good price for a 4TB I think - around £15 per TB seems to be generally accepted as a good deal.

Pretty good deal as I got a 4tb other other month for £76. Heat added.

Yeah good deal this, Barracuda are nice drives. Heat.

I have the ‘Ironwolf’ branded version of this, I think it’s virtually the same HDD? No complaints at this price, I paid £80.

Ironwolf is much better. It's designed for long and continuous use for example for use in a NAS this are made way more sturdier and robust.

How would this drive be for using in a Humax freeview recorder? Thanks in advance.

I put a 1tb in mine when the internal drive failed & it was fine. As to a 4tb I dont know.

You question would be best to look for on youtube, Loads of videos on there.

Worth mentioning that ONLY pro editions are not shingle drives... hence the low price (in other words really poor for writing data quickly due to having to re-write multiple sectors at a time slowing access times to about 8x slower vs a proper CRM type found in pro models). So these are uttter garbage for any kind of data that gets updated frequently and is definately no good for any type of RAID array or NAS. (edited)

Is there a 4tb drive or higher that you do recommend for writing lots of data?
