A lot of people ask whether to get the Sub or rear speakers, and the answer is pretty subjective. I have the Sub and it's incredibly powerful; I find it more immersive for movies/TV than music personally. The Sub's excellent, don't get me wrong though. For many, it's deciding whether to get the surround sound speakers or the Sub first unfortunately.
I think the bass on the Beam pretty good for such a small bar, but if you find it really lacking, the Sub may be the better option first... (edited)Nate18723/11/2020 22:15

I have the Ikea speakers and for the price they're excellent, my only issue is that they're quite tall and mounting or positioning then might be more difficult (no adjustable brackets like the One's). Wanted to save some money to put towards the Sub (yes a real rabbit hole!). This video might be useful as the YouTuber compares the Ikea Symphonisk and One:

Anyone with any Sonos components you really need to Truplay them using an …Anyone with any Sonos components you really need to Truplay them using an iPhone , i have to use my daughters as i am a Samsung user, once you do this and then set your bass and treble back to how you like them, it transforms the speakers , i have the 5.1 set up with the new Arc and was a bit disappointed with it as i had swapped it out for the Playbar , truplay has transformed it.
Its a bit rubbish they've only made that available on Apple and not android

I usually only have my TV on volume 5 or 6 as I don't want to annoy the neighbour as she already has to put up with the racket my two children make.I'd use it for radio too but if it won't make much difference to the TV at low volume I'll just get a One.
The sound bar can be used on low volume and has a night mode in the app also if you are worried about disturbing others.
It’s an incredible upgrade over standard tv speakers.
The SUB needs to be driven hard and loud to make an impact. I had to return one thinking it was broken before I realised this.
A pair of rears with a Beam are the best value and give you a large immersive soundstage with surround effects especially at normal listening levels.
The SUB should be the last element or cherry on the surround sound cake.- Any idea what time the deals live?

The Sony ht-x8500, although sold as Atmos compatible, has no upfiring drivers. Therefore, it does not get close to a full Atmos experience.
But some audiophiles would argue no soundbar will give through full Atmos experience anyway.
I honestly don't know if it is a better choice than the Sonos as I did not hear them both to compare. (edited)

They current situation is, support is ended for some old products, the newest of which dates from 5 years ago but mostly much older than that. That doesn't mean they stop working, it just means they don't receive updates so no additional services should they become available. But also if for example you use it to stream Spotify, and Spotify make a change their end that stops it working then you'll most likely lose that function. But it will otherwise continue to function as it does today so with the Beam it'll continue to work as a soundbar until it physically breaks.
There is now updated software that isn't compatible with the older products but you can continue to run both old and new alongside each other, you just can't now group them together as you could before. Not an issue if you only have the one or are starting your collection now.
Part of the uproar was because they offered owners of these older products the chance of 30% off a new product, if they chose to have their current one disabled. Whislt this is questionable from a sustainability point of view, nobody was forced to do so and had the option of selling privately if they wished and using the proceeds to fund a new one, or doing nothing at all. Nobody had anything bricked against their will.
Now they have ended the disabling so you can still claim your 30% off a new one and continue to use the old one, or sell it on - the caveat being that each product can only be used against the discount once.
Personally I took up the original offer as I had a (very old) unit that had become faulty so for me bricking a dead product for 30% off a new one was a no-brainer.Tutankhamark26/11/2020 07:42

The products didn't stop working, they just stopped releasing updates for older products in the same way that mobile phone manufacturers don't keep updating their phones after a couple of years.

You do need to pay £3.99 delivery (unless you do C&C) so the beam came to £273.09.
