Beware with this it is a 2.4ghz g device not even n or ac. So if your wifi 2.4ghz band is n-only you'll need to change it to b/g/n to allow it to connect. They are using 20 year old wifi technology.

According to Sonos they state that the acoustic properties are identical. How much better did it sound to you and in what way?

So what you’re really saying is “don’t buy a Sonos because they won’t let me cheat the system by getting a recycling discount from them and then selling it on to a third party”

My understanding was the SL has the same speakers/technology as the Gen2, just lacks the microphone, thus cheaper.

can you pair the SL with a ONE 1st gen? Anyone know? :-)

Yes, with ONE 1st gen you can but not with Play:1, now I have got problem, as I can't find (only on ebay) new black play:1 :/.
Sonos speakers that support stereo pairing:

    • One (gen1, gen2, and SL)
    • Play:1
    • Play:3
    • Play:5 (gen2)
    • Play:5 (gen1)
    • Move
    • SYMFONISK

If you are planning to connect beam and 2 ONEs voice control won't be working on ONEs - only on the beam. (edited)

Probably difficult to compare. What sort of amp with the Q acoustics and what would the source be for the q acoustics?

IMHO the 3020’s will beat the Sonos hands down (with almost any amp), but as was said earlier, with Sonos you are paying for convenience.

But if you send it Sonos and get the discounted price on another one then you won’t be selling to someone else anyway since it’ll be going back to Sonos? You can still sell a speaker to someone else you just don’t activate recycle mode.

It’s not the 2.4ghz that’s the issue it’s the g part. If you have a n-only 2.4ghz band it performs better than b/g/n. Having g devices on that band slows things down for everything.

Some routers have 2.4ghz as n only by default (as I found out when I bought a Sonos and had issues connecting).

Nobody should be selling a device this day in age that is not at least n for 2.4ghz. G is ancient.

I have a Sonos Play 1 upstairs, and a Sonos One (Gen 1) in kitchen. In my living room I have Q Acoustics 2020i's linked to a Denon Amplifier. To make this multiroom I have linked my TV's Chromecast so I can play Sonos through the Denon and Q Acoustics. I would probably say the Q Acoustics are better, but then they are a stereo pair whereas my Sonos are just single. Something I am debating on changing at some point

However I probably use the Sonos more as they are easier and cheaper then the Denon setup. But I do have Bluetooth on my receive.

Stream from Spotify from what source? A dot or something? The 3020s do sound good, I don’t have any experience of those amazon amps but I know which ones you mean, they seem to get alright reviews. With Sonos you are paying for convenience of wireless and built in amps (so no cables from source to amp, amp to speakers), and you’re paying for their app and their multiroom experience.

Blind buy both from somewhere like amazon with easy returns ? I bought another pair of Sonos ones last week at £169 each, called them today and they’ve emailed me a free returns label so I can buy from Richer Sounds at £148. Annoyingly they wouldn’t price match but I kept all the packaging etc so not much hassle for me to return for free for a £40 saving. (edited)

Its a great speaker, but returned as it cannot:
    - play audio within a group across rooms with other Google/alexa devices
    - cannot do voice match so you cannot switch Spotify account, everyone who asks it to play music will use your device unless they go into the Spotify app or Sonos app.

Google home max is only £200 on sale and can do all this plus is louder and better.

I personally think paired with a good amp q Acoustics will sound better they are a stereo pair very well made and cost more than the Sonos one without amp / WiFi connectivity etc. Sonos one has one woofer and one tweeter so cannot give you stereo sound. Sonos is all about sleek looks good sound and straightforward setup with a good app.

If you wish to put something in your kitchen on a worktop then the Sonos 1 would be a lot less faff and there won't be loads of trailing wires.

It really depends on what setup you want.

I’m interested in this as not seen a SL in the flesh but my Sonos one gen 2s have rounded edges, tapered bottoms and grills and has capacitive buttons. The only difference I can see reviewers mention physically are there’s no mic ring on the SL and that’s it. Even the pictures look identical , but I haven’t seen one in person.
