Had this laptop for a few months, seems very good value for the slightly higher price I paid. Not a 'gaming' laptop by any means, runs Football Manager very well though due to the processor intense nature. Only minor complaint I have is that the keyboard may seem a bit flimsy - you can see it flex a little whilst typing. Hot from me, wish I could have held off for a couple of months now!

This PC Advisor review (of a different model in the same range) should give hints as to screen quality etc.

Wouldn't go near another Toshiba Laptop with a barge Pole. This piece of rubbish is going straight in the trash as soon as my new laptop arrives and it's 1000% not a Toshiba! Never again, heating problems battery problems galore and when you start searching the net you will find hundreds of users with same problem.

My advice would be avoid....You have been suggestively warned, good luck.

Rubbish! You can play quite demanding games on this laptop (and I should know I have one). Mafia 2 plays at a perfectly acceptable 25 fps. It looks very similar to a 360 tbh.

My Toshiba died after 3 years use of careful use. Laptops are still nowhere near as reliable as dekstops (obvious I know).

However, this is a great price for an i5. I'd advise getting at least 1 more year's warranty.

Cheers, so would that still be a bargain for the spec/quality? I'm looking for something similar to this for my lad for Christmas so have got a bit of time if this isn't all that.

Seems nice for the spec, and while all these consumer laptops are built to a budget, Tosh is generally at the higher end of that philosophy.

That is not entirely true. I've got the C855-18D, which is pretty much the same spec as this, except for the extra storage and memory. The HD4000 is playing games just fine. It can even run Crysis 2 at high settings as long as you stick to 720p resolution. I've recently just finished playing Portal 2(720p, medium-high settings) and Mass Effect 3 (720p, AA on, Dynamic Shadows on) on it.

It can run most games available today just fine as long as you're happy to keep it at Low-Medium settings and at 720p. Even then, they look better than most console games.

It’s good for a cheap laptop, although the resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels is limited for the size; we would expect more detail from such a large panel. The matt surface doesn't pick up reflections, which makes it very comfortable to use. Colour palette is a little lacking in bite and vitality though. The colours aren’t incorrect, but you don’t get the same impression of photo detail that you find on shiny screens. Viewing angles are dire, so you’ll need to be sitting directly in front of the screen for the image to remain clearly viewable.Read more: http://www.pcadvisor.co.uk/reviews/laptop/3382368/toshiba-satellite-pro-l850-11u-review/#ixzz28ErSNQBX

You can get many games running LOW - MEDIUM settings on the HD3000 with last years processors, including Battlefield 2, Skyrim, TF2, and pretty much any MMO, at 20-30fps. The HD4000 must be an improvement still.

I doubt if the OP's model is as good for these simple reasons: I currently own a Toshiba Satellite Pro A300-267 which is awfully slow and can burn your lap because of the amount of heat it produces. I've just bought this Fujitsu and it's very good and is lighter than the SP L860-1DV and hardly produces any heat and whose fan I've not even noticed yet. My only niggle is that I'm not used to a reduced sized keyboard because the Fujitsu has the old accountant's numeric keyboard on the right hand side but has a spill-proof keyboard.
