To everyone that thinks this only impacts gift cards. I can confirm this has happened to me in the UK. I signed up as a new user with Turkey VPN, using revolute card (and a mates Turkish number), worked for half a day and now only works with VPN enabled to Turkey. Likely going to cancel if there isn’t a workaround?

    Think about it.

Your account exists in Turkey because you signed up for it with a VPN on and verified it with a Turkish phone number. Of course it's going to be detected if you almost immediately started streaming in the UK.

Accounts created in the UK, as it stands, don't appear to be having this problem. (edited)

Update from my side. Spoke to Netflix through live chat today. Firstly I added a backup payment method (Monzo Card) this didn't reactive the account for UK use. So secondly I contacted live chat again and mentioned the message I was getting. She said that my account was no longer accessible outside of Turkey. Account now only works in Turkey or via VPN.

I asked if it could be converted into a UK account. No - I had to wait until the credit expired (2 months worth) and gift card credit is non refundable. If I want to use Netflix in the next few days I was advised to create a new account or move to Turkey! Yey!

All this will do is further reduce netflix revenue as I won't be paying rip off uk price and more people will turn to piracy again. (edited)

So does it look like accounts with cc are fine, just accounts using gift cards are being region locked? I wonder if this will be sorted when they request extra payment for outside of home?

I mean, if only there was a guide that nobody will read ..

Further developments on my account. So it wasn't working due to "not available in your location" until this morning. Now its working again. It could only be one of two things... Netflix have flipped the switch and opened it up again for people. Or it's taken Netflix a few days to realise I now have a debit card added and it isn't just a Turkish gift card account anymore. Going to keep my eye on it, hopefully it stays working!

Nope I've still got 2 months left on my gift cards. 48 hours after adding a debit card it's unlocked the account.

Is the VPN on or off?

    What device are you using?

Leave VPN off. You probably just need to clear the cache and/or reboot.

On your Fire TV Stick, press the Home button and then navigate to Settings. Select Applications, then choose Manage Installed Applications.

Navigate to the Netflix app and select the app.

Go to Clear data and select it. Once you’ve selected Clear data, you need to select it again. When you’re done clearing the data, move onto Clear cache and select that option as well.

After all the data and cache has been removed, unplug the Amazon Firestick from your TV and wait 30 seconds. Plug it back in and check if your problem has been solved. (edited)

Originally a UK account years ago. Then had it Turkish for about a year on my Monzo card, cancelled it and joined my mates account. He recently gave up paying so went back to mine - won't accept my Monzo card anymore so bought two months of gift cards. Worked for about 3 weeks and now doing this...

I didn’t use a gift card. I just cancelled my membership and the day after, used my vpn to sign up in turkey. After that I haven’t had to set to turkey. Maybe it’s the gift card option that has messed it up? Good luck anyway
  9. Dizzy_day99's avatar
It's the day, where my account is needed to restart membership since i've using basic plan a month ago.

But something weird happen when i try to login my netflix using netflix turkey and turkey vpn. They won't let my account login, it just say "wrong password" even with 100% it's the right password. Clicked forget my password, but it does nothing and say some error occur bla bla bla.

I gave up on Netflix hacks, it was all working fine until I lost my swift card and needed to update my new one, then it wouldn't accept it, tried the gift card thing and had the same problem as OP.
It's more agro than its worth now! Their Netflix Original stuff is abysmal and the little content that is worth watching I just stream of "specialist" android apps or Kodi! I get fed up with paying more than every other country, they're just pushing people to go the illegal route which is something they'll never stop!
    dannyboy20's avatar
Did you try going on Live Chat to ask them to send a secure form to update your card?

It wouldn't accept my new Revolut card through the website but worked straight away on live chat.

I kinda think you all deserve it.
You are using deals meant for people living in Turkey. Whose currency has majorly devalued.
If people keep this up, netflix would be forced to raise prices on them.

Imagine if we all used discounts meant for the disabled and had their costs going up as a result
    tek-monkey's avatar
Do Netflix pay fair UK tax on UK subscribers? Of course not!

If they pay tax in a country that is more economically beneficial for them, I'll pay them in a country that is more economically beneficial to me.

I'm also wondering if it's because the gift cards from Eneba have been flagged up by Netflix. I might be wrong but it seems all those who are having issues have used the gift card method. Mine's still working fine through Revolut and has been for a number of years. Here's hoping anyway.

Maybe they are finally catching up with us, do you ever log in occationally via VPN set to Turkey?
    Superman80's avatar

    Replying to

Yes i know that, but every so often I always put a VPN on and log in via a computer just to check in with the home country, that way if they have a limit for the amount of time outside of the country you can travel it resets it.

I bought a Netflix Turkish gift card to add onto my UK Netflix account last night. Everything went smoothly and even watched an episode of Better Call Saul with VPN off.

Tried playing the next episode of Better Call Saul today and also tried all other random programmes/films and nothing works and comes up with the error "Sorry, your account can't be used on this device. For more info, go to help.netflix.com"

    The error code is tvq-pb-101(1.23)

This is both on my Sony TV android app and my android phone app. I have tried the following but with no luck:

    1. Rebooted the TV
    2. Signed out and signed back in.
    3. Cleared the cache
    4. Cleared the data

I then tried turning ON the VPN to Turkey and it works however, some of the programmes like Better Call Saul are not in the Turkey Netflix library.

I have a feeling they are closing the loopholes. Would be happy to hear if someone has found a workaround this?

I created a new account on Monday(via Turkish VPN), applied a Turkish Netflix voucher as it refused to accept my Revolut card ( I also tried a Barclaycard too)
It worked fine for a day and then wouldn't connect unless i was on my VPN. and then it worked fine... good job I have 50GBpm free on my VPN. Managed to binge watch the first 2 series of Stranger Things so far

Been using Turkish Netflix with gift cards, can't seem to use it on any device now unless I'm on a Turkey VPN.

wow. just tried on my LG TV (tried phone earlier) - all fine.

If you put on a Turkish vpn on your laptop or mobile phone and connect your tv does it still work or still say can’t use from this location? I know it’s a faff but might be worth attempting

That's what is seems like. Even if they cancel mine I don't care...only had it because of how cheap it was or I'd never sign up to netflix in the first place

If this stops, i am definately not going to UK ££.This is total rip off

Very strange. Last night and this morning I couldn’t watch anything without connecting to a Turkish VPN. But now I can watch content again, without using a VPN. Confusing.

It was an old account that I had cancelled and restarted again about a month ago, so that could be right. Thanks.

Any work around this yet? My turkish gift card has 2 months remaining and I'm still blocked so it cant be until your gift card has ran out. Even my VPN doesnt work as a message appears saying I'm using a blocker :-(
    Dizzy_day99's avatar

Just go to live cs chat and ask them for adding your debit card as a alternative payment.

For those with the location lock (I do the same method with HBO max after signing up via Argentina)

    I VPN into Turkey

    Start my download

    VPN off during download

Download begins to download with your usual non-VPN speeds

Then you can play them offline.

Try logging out and in again?

Hope they are not clamping down. Interesting thread... (edited)

Add netflix so it runs through vpn, if problem persists. Leave all your other apps to run as normal..... Paul

Check where your location is setup for the first stick. Ie: when you first get it you select your country.
    check it’s uk..

That's why I use the gift card method

Me to it says "your account can't be used in this location". Looks like I've got 6 moths of watching turkish netflix. Something is better than nothing. I'll have to wait and see if someone has a workaround.

Just tried it on my TV and phone, no problems here yet to report.

    Turkish sub using revolut
  35. Superman80's avatar
Mine still working this morning, hopefully holds out till the end of better call Saul ,

Has anyone had this happen that isn’t using gift cards?
  36. Mo84's avatar
Just happened to me today. I signed up to the top tier Netflix plan, paid just over £5 via a gift card. It was supposed to last until the end of August but I get the same error as the OP. I think they are cracking down on this, as per the live chat person and their help guide you can't use foreign gift cards in countries outside of where the gift card originated and of course these gift cards are not refundable. So essentially I've paid a fiver for 10 days worth of Netflix. Aight cool
  37. KingOfSpades's avatar
So this is happening for Turkish Gift card users? or does it happen to users paying Turkish price via Uk bank card?
    jameshothothot's avatar
seems to be gift card.. the website error talked about buying from non-authorised retailers...
don't think any revolut people caught yet...
  38. zuggy's avatar
Same happening to me with a Turkish voucher. Time to ditch Netflix I think (after Saul finishes in a fortnight).
