These CPUs run hot so don’t expect a long lasting product.

However upon researching I see S mode can be disabled but haven't yet established if this is something MS charge an upgrade fee for.

dazigster24/05/2020 19:28Your statutory rights have no expiration in the UK, I'm not sure where you …Your statutory rights have no expiration in the UK, I'm not sure where you get the 1 year "standard" from. The law just mentions "reasonable expectation" of the lifetime and durability of a product, it does not break down into specific product types, such as "laptops", or even electricals. However, getting the vendor to honour your statutory rights is another matter, of course, the law is notoriously subjective -it often boils down to how much of a pain in the arse you are prepared to be. But then, that's all true of voluntary warranties too, in my experience.I hear Aldi have a no quibble policy on returns, and I have to admit, that kind of "customer is always right" attitude of the vendor/manufacturer is often much more important (and often all too rare) than these arbitrary warranty numbers (which are often just marketing). In that respect, Aldi probably are a good choice of vendor, which is what you're saying I think On the flip side of that is that you'll get very little useful support out of them other than "we can give your money back, if you want?" which is a bit overkill for when there's just, say, a case screw missing.Anyway, I'm not sure I'd ever go back to a plastic cased laptop (the lower half of the Medion is ABS), they're just sooooo much more fragile and you're unlikely to get a vendor to accept cracks & chips under statutory rights or a warranty, frankly.

Nowadays, laptop computers are more frequently called notebook computers, though technically laptops are somewhat larger in size than notebooks, in both thickness and weight.

Windows 10 has become quite bloated and I easily push near to 8gb ram usage. Microsoft Teams (essential to the new normal now) sucks up a lot of ram too. This might be good for light users but think the fixed 8GB ram will be the limitation eventually.

Being slightly upgraded from the one I have, it seems to have everything she could want but I don't want it developing issues, or cosmetic aging prematurely...Anyone have any info that may help, comparing this at £429 to the Huawei D15 2020 at £549? Thanks in advance

I philosophically object to shelling out a tonne of money for something that simply 'plays games'. That said, if I look back at what I've spent on gaming laptops it's gone from £299 (2009) to £329 (2011) to £560 (2015) to £719 (2018). TBF, with each 'bump' you get 'more stuff'; more memory, more storage, IPS screens, SSDs so I can't complain. I'm hoping to keep my next laptop (very likely the all AMD Dell G5 SE) below £800 but that might well be overambitious. I suspect when AMD bring forth their Ryzen 3 APUs for laptops (next year??), we might find that the Navi integrated graphics are 'good enough' for a lot of 1080p gaming. Once you lose that dedicated GPU, I expect prices to drop back below £600... but until then... it's tricky.
