Just looked at it. Now that is an impressive piece of kit.

It's big, loads of space, we have the front and side porches too, just massive, hence a smaller tent for weekends

Could a tent enthusiast please advise if this would be suitable or should I look at something stronger / bigger / better. I'm a little nervous as I don't want to invest to much as it might be that we all hate it, but at the same time we need something that will make us enjoy the camping experience, if that makes sense! Thank you.

Depends on budget and family size... We have a big Keswick air tent for week/2 week trips but we take a lot of kit, Sims, 2 kitches, big cool boxes, TV, tables, chairs, big windbreaks etc...but that's a lot of kit and time, we know Vango quality and are happy with it hence we looked for a weekend tent, this is 5 man, but comfortable for 3 really, have a look on YouTube for the Vango Solaris, the old green one has lots of vids, this ii version has updates like the flyscreen on the door and nice price

We recently bought a Vango 6XL, and although huge living spaces the bedrooms dont quite fit 5. We bought our 2 daughters a bunkbed frame which works a treat, that then fits a bunkbed, travel cot and a king airbed just nicely with spare feet room/storage. Vango is great quality and airbeam makes a world of difference! You will love it, my wife never bought in to the idea of camping, convinced her to try it this year and shes now mad for it.

For me I would only buy the old gold standard for tents, which is a cotton or pollycotton flysheet, a pvc groundsheet and aluminium poles. Unfortunately these are very hard to get new now as manufacturing costs have been reduced whilst prices increased !, although easy to find second hand as pretty much all the outwell lake series were made to this spec and can be had for this sort of money. Vango also did a few. Pretty much every dutch tent is made to this spec as well and they have the best tents in the world. These tents will last for 30 plus years easily and I have a 50 year old one, if stored correctly, ie dry. Airbeam has its place if your on your own but if there is 2 of you erecting the tent aluminium poles are far stronger and better, can be replaced or repaired on site however they hardly ever break anyway. A PVC groundsheet is the only spec that is actually waterproof not just water resistant and is tough as old boots. Cotton or pollycotton flys are an absolute must have for me as cooler in the heat , warmer in the cool nights, can be repaired easily, last for years and most importantly dont rustle in the slightess of winds.

I'm no tent enthusiast but yes that makes sense to me, we bought a similar sized cheapo tent £120 or so just to try for a couple of nights really, we took our 11yr old lad and one of his friends who thoroughly enjoyed it.

This has advantages that I see over my cheap one in that even though we'd never go if there was a chance of rain I reckon my tent would leak in a downpour, also I like the blackout bedrooms you get on this one that's a real advantage.

Looking at this tent I'd buy some of those windbreaks you can get and "fence off" that front porch to give you more private space.

It wasn't for us as the wife didn't like it but we sort of knew that before we even bought it, it was just the experience we thought we'd try, so in your position I wouldn't do what we did and get a cheap tent to try out as if you decide you like tenting then you'll end up buying twice.

The other point I'd make is if you decide it's not for you then there's a good chance of shifting one of these named quality tents on eBay.

I hope that makes sense (and helps) from a bystanders point of view.

Camping is part of growing up. Everybody should try it whilst they're young.

It might be exciting, great, OK or crap. Try it in the back garden first. But ffs, respect the environment,

Vango Valencia, its a 2019 model we got from Facebook Marketplace for £500 with some other almost new camping gear like kitchen unit, storage cupboard, electric hook up and airbeds. I was originally planning on buying new but most where out of stock for Vango Airbeams, but glad i took the risk as we saved a fortune.

Agree with the comments about Vango quality. Definitely worth the extra. This tent looks great. We bought an AirBeam tent early this year and used it for the first time recently at Camp Bestival where there was storm force wind and torrential rain on the first night. Was solid as a rock. The one we got was made of poly cotton which was about £200 extra. Apparently is more breathable although am sure this will be fine.

Yeah it is awful how tent companies claim how many people tents can sleep. They should have to allow a minimum of 1 metre width per person and only claim that as the number of people a tent can sleep - so for 3m as you said, that would be for 3 people. (edited)

Not sure if it helps but I have got this one, only £184 at moment but not in stock:

    amazon.co.uk/Col…h=1

Just come back from a week in Cornwall in it. Was a great tent, had loads of room for 2 adults and 3 kids. I even bought a front awning for it at £100 to make a kitchen / dining space

I orginally bought an airbeam tent which cost £900 and it leaked first night and ruined the holiday. Put me off camping and air beams so bought this one. Used twice this yearand its been great.

My first thought looking at that is that the tensioned pole on the front awning bit won't last 10 minutes. I have a Vango Calder with those sorts of poles throughout and one on the front like that, and as soon as the wind gets up the front pole fails. I got a replacement and it lasted less than a day, so we can't use that bit any more, and currently have nowhere to make a cuppa in a a shower.
