What do you guys think about this Solar panel offer from Costco

costco.co.uk/Hom…504

We are looking to install solar panels following our recent purchase of an EV.
Appreciate your opinion on this please.
Thank you.

Just get Octopus Go 7.5p/kWh overnight and put the £11k in a low-fee tracker investment for 10 years. (edited)

What and then not use any electric from 0430 to 0030?

Which currently have at least an 18 month waiting list. I had to wait 6 months at the start of last year!

I don't know anything about home battery systems, but if the battery can only deliver 5.2kW then you're still going to be pulling from the mains when charging your car as many EV sockets are 7kW.

kW vs kWh, the battery can hold 5kW and deliver 2.5kWh of power, so it’ll only cover 2.5 of the 7 many car chargers can deliver.

Sure wish this size system with a battery was around at this price when I got mine installed! As to the quality, I'd think a specialist Solar Forum would be a better place to ask.

Can you even fit 16 panels on your roof? I know they have other combinations, but will be worth at least trying to pick the one closest to what you think you can fit.

Also it appears that you might need to pay upfront, rather than get someone out to provide a more accurate cost.

Don't forget you may also need permission from your electricity network operator, if they can't accept it on the network, there could be costs associated with upgrading it.

Without knowing this, I'd personally wouldn't pay it all upfront, as you don't really know the full cost, and that could take weeks, whilst they keep hold of your £11k.

Thank you guys. Is this a good price ? What's the average cost to intall solar panels these days ? Yeah, would be better to pay in installments if possible.

    It's a decent price.
Probably the only option if you want an install within next 18 months.

Id go for at least a 10kwh battery though to cover your no solar use as well as taking advantage of off peak tariffs.

Got a smart meter? If so install Loop on your phone, connect it to your meter and look at the solar playground. It'll tell you how much of your usage you would cover with solar, also what benefits a battery would bring, but can't factor in grid charging at night yet.

Also worth looking if there are any demo systems nearby? There is one in my town that publishes data, a 4kw setup south facing here in the Midlands generates an average of 10kw/day, although that is very heavily weighted towards the summer. (edited)

47706844-73hiF.jpgAs you can see from this solar would help me loads but battery not so much. I use about 15kw/day. (edited)

Has anyone gone for the Costco offer? Any comments on the installation company in terms of responsiveness etc?
