Always wondered are they any better than say supermarket wellies???

More expensive wellies are comfier (but still not as comfy as boots tbh), but are often just bought as aspirational goods/fashion, as ridiculous as that sounds for a pair of wellies.

Hunters if you drive an Evoque on finance, holiday in Dubai, and wear branded "designer" clothes.

Le Chameau if you drive a 30 year old Defender, you don't holiday (because holidays are for peasants who work) and buy all your clothes from House of Bruar.

Sadly my pair have a crack after two years. Admittedly they have been used and abused for dog walking every day it's been wet and muddy out

Totally agree. They old hunter wellys used to be made in my hometown dumfries. My Grandad was a designer I have a pair of the old boots from when I was a child and they have done my 2 children also and still in good shape apart from the scribbled out names inside I thought I would treat myself to a pair a couple of years ago and they didn't even last me 2 summers of festivals. They were shocking. Such a shame.

Hunter Boot, the royal warrant-holding footwear brand, is on the march towards a fresh injection of funding nearly three years after it was rescued from the brink of oblivion.

Sky News understands that the owners of Hunter, whose boots have frequently been spotted on the feet of festival-going celebrities, have begun working with advisers on plans to secure new capital.

City sources said the company was using AlixPartners to run an accelerated sale process with the objective of securing a deal in the coming weeks.

Alternative outcomes if a transaction cannot be struck were unclear on Wednesday.

Hunter, which was founded in 1856 as the North British Rubber Company, is understood to have seen a post-COVID rebound in sales, with revenue in China accounting for a chunk of that recent growth.

The company was saved in 2020 through a £16.5m capital injection, part of which came from Pall Mall Legacy, a fund backed by Goldman Sachs and Three Hills Capital Partners, an existing shareholder.

Pall Mall Legacy owns the majority of Hunter's shares, with Searchlight Capital Partners, a private equity firm, and Pentland Group, the sportswear giant behind brands such as Speedo, holding the remainder.

It was unclear how much new funding was being sought as part of the process being run by AlixPartners.

Hunter is one of Britain's most prominent footwear brands, and is one of only ten companies to hold two royal warrants - one of which was issued by Queen Elizabeth II.

It registered record sales in 2018, but saw its US business experience sharp sales declines in the final quarter of last year before being hit by the COVID-19 pandemic.

The cancellation of live entertainment events and music festivals such as Glastonbury has had a particularly severe impact on Hunter, which has long-been associated with celebrities such as Kate Moss, the model.

Hunter was traditionally dominated by sales of Wellington boots, but has increasingly diversified into a broader array of lifestyle products.

It has exited its retail store portfolio such as its former flagship on London's Regent Street with the exception of a site at Bicester Village and Woodbury in New York.

A source close to the business said it was seeing sales in China double each year, with the rest of Asia also showing strong growth. (edited)

Not what they used to be, made somewhere else, they were better back in "my day", X Y Z is reccomended, only for posers etc. Hopefully that's covered most things.

After closure of the Scottish manufacturing base production outsourced to China in 2008 as well as other Asian countries. In other words another British heritage name that does anything but manufacture here. (edited)

Men’s £119 for wellies, do me a favour.

Cracking deal, and by that I mean that the soles crack making them useless as wellies
  13. Gadgetdeals's avatar
Cracks seem to appear after 18mths good use where the foot bends at the sides but just write that off and get new ones as they are nice wellies.

Just got some yesterday from here for £49, loads of other styles available mandmdirect.com/02/…ter

They must love it when you turn up with your 'rob me' attitude!

Used to be good and last for many years (my old pair were good for over 20 years) - now just a 'fashion' brand made in China and have a very short life before cracking and leaking. No one in the know will be impressed. Avoid at any price! (edited)
  15. dré.'s avatar
agree, shocking quality, cracked after 2 years of light use
  16. playnice40's avatar
Yeah years ago these were fantastic wellies lasted years but I guess they started getting them made some place on the cheap and will end up ruining the company because of it. I get better wellies in Aldi now at a fraction of the price

Awful quality product… don’t waste your money
  18. greg666's avatar
Stopped buying them long time ago, not the quality it once was + no longer produced in the UK for quite some time. I like to buy quality products but in this case there is only the name left nothing else. The top management want to cash in as so many so the old saying buy cheap buy twice is fading away (edited)
