The 4K screens on these are lovely, but the battery life suffers, the 1080P versions are just as good and imho the sweet spot for these.  OEM batteries for these are expensive, and with the age of these, something to budget for if it hasn't been replaced.

A great deal at this price. My only concern, as with any 2nd hand laptop, is the condition of the battery. With Dell I've often reached the point where the laptop needs to be permanently plugged in. I've replaced several batteries too, in the past, which worked fine for me. All modern batteries deteriorate after years of discharge/recharge cycles. Some just pack up without notice. I don't know if you can replace the battery in a Dell XPS.

I'd ask the seller to check the battery report which will show the current charge capacity and cycle count. Just checked one of mine and it worked out to be at around 78% of the original capacity. This is fine as it is at least 4 years old. This happens in all laptops and mobile phones.

Other than that, these XPS machines are a joy to use. A bit overpriced when new but these look good value for the price.

You are right and they are particularly bad on these systems for some reason, when they get under 80% they seem to go downhill very quickly. I have an XPS 13 that I can't use properly for this issue.

    OK so honestly:

Pro: Great price if you're on a limited budget and need some fire power. 8gm Memory isn't great though

Con: I've had a XPS 15 (top spec) for almost 16 months now, and Dell cut so many corners I won't be buying another. Webcam is AWFUL, system seems to make it's own problems, and it just doesn't feel premium.

It's quick, and Windows 11 is great, but I feel there's better out there.

Keep these in mind (especially webcam wise, given the modern work environments we live in) if you're looking at this.

XPS was a wonderful machine when first released and almost a competitor build quality wise to the MacBook.

The later versions, and this is one, aren't issuing in design or performance - silly webcam placement, iffy batteries and poorly calibrated screens.

Are these any good? And can you upgrade RAM on these?

no for the ram, had the newer version & apart from being compact didn't really like it, hot and fan loud etc

Used to love my little 4K XPS 13 from 5 or 6 years ago. One of the first of it's kind that had such slim bezels around the display. (edited)

I use the 7th gen version of this for work on a daily basis. Does everything I need it to, very light and compact, I don't use the touchscreen but nice to have if that's your thing.

Only downside to these in my opinion is the webcam placement at the bottom of the screen which means you will appear to be looking above people's heads unless you use an external webcam. That and it could do with more ports. If you want HDMI output, put money aside for a USB C / HDMI dock also as if it's like mine you will need that. (edited)

I found me 10th gen 9370 4K frustratingly slow and noisy. The cooling system is poor in my opinion. Still, £250 is a very good price for a laptop with an excellent 4K screen.

Agree, I dislike my 10th gen XPS too and I never got anywhere near the claimed battery life. I also found it very cramped to work on too, but like you say, bang-for-buck wise there's not going to be many better out there for the money.

Real shame you can't upgrade the RAM. That said, 8GB should be perfectly fine for most people.

Standard for these compact ultraportables, it shouldn’t come as a surprise but as they are what they are, as a second machine, quite usable.

i7-8550U is from 2017, 5949 CPU benchmark not tempting, gpu integrated Intel 620 not really the absolute hit parade, memory not upgradeable, 4K screen is pleasant though, 8 GB memory is ridiculous. (edited)

My 7th gen XPS 13 9360 is still working okay. Similar spec but mine has 16gb ram. Replaced the battery last year as it was atrocious, and absolutely hammered it with massive InDesign files and After Effects projects over the years (mainly 2D motion graphics, this wasn't a miracle worker but not bad). Apart from a couple of screen blemishes, it still runs well. Nowadays it's just for the odd bit of office work. Current requirements of creative apps punish the older generation CPUs so I would say only get this for admin / browsing, for which it will be great.

Yeah I use a lot of creative apps which run in a web browser. I stop using Chrome as the RAM usage was getting stupid. I use Linux and only use Windows 11 for when I need to use Adobe products. I have a Ryzen 5 3600 and system gets sluggish even with 32GB RAM. So I think a CPU upgrade and doubling the RAM is in order this year.

Get the 9370 over the 9360, it's noticeably thinner, all USB C and better thermals. The 9360 is still perfectly good but feels a little dated next to it and for the small difference probably worth it. Check the batteries whichever one you get as these are prone to failed and worn batteries.

9370 is worse grade than 9360:
Quality: Good - Refurbished (Click link above) Minor scratching to screen. May have a very minor white blemish to screen. Only visible on a light background.

“May have a very minor white blemish to screen. Only visible on a light background."

Why would a white mark only be visible on a light background? Surely, it would be worse on a dark background?

Anyway, scratches and marks on the screen are not acceptable, so cold from me.

I bought on the last deal and the screen damage was completely unacceptable so returned. I don’t know how laptops can end up in such a state where the screen looks like its coating has been peppered with a shotgun.

The 9370s are now out of stock and are probably the ones returned from the last deal that people like me thought were too badly damaged to keep so be warned.

Is this a good option to have it connected to my screen or my tv as a backup PC?

Got the 4K screen one recently. If you want a laptop for basic office work/web browsing with a great screen and slim form factor for not very much it ticks all the boxes. If you need raw processing power or want to game gunna have to dig a little deeper

Received mine today and cosmetically it is in good shape - however many of the keys you have to press multiple times for them to work. So it has to go back - otherwise looked like a pretty decent machine for money spent

I ordered one of these recently as a few popped up in the last offer. Has a few issues that will warrant it going back: LCD has a noticeable blemish/bright spot which it shouldn't have on this grading, the palmrest is tacky, the lid has been resprayed (which I didn't expect but it's not very durable), corners dented and worst of all, it has completely hung/frozen multiple times in the BIOS and won't respond to inputs. I wonder, if as someone else said, this has been returned and put back out again... mildly disappointed but hopefully they won't be difficult with the return.
