I can’t believe how great these M1 Pro chips are…exporting timelines on my high end PC would take 30mins at best for a 40min timeline , on these chips it’s taking 5 mins…mind absolutely blown and a huge time saver

M1 series chips are fast and can beat PCs but I don’t believe they are 6x faster unless your PC isn’t as high-end as you say or you are missing something important, like full hardware acceleration enabled. Right now, PC hardware can be faster than a Mac but needs more power to do it.

Is there much difference between the M1 and M2 chips ?

There is less of a difference in the Pro chips as the M1 Pro has media encoders but yes about 15-20% multi core and GPU. However the M1 Pro is still amazing. You also have it factor in the 16 inch M1is the none binned model and all M2 models you need to get a 1TB SSD (none stock configurations) to get the same SSD speeds as the M1 Pro stock models so you'll be paying a lot more.

Was mulling this deal over until I realised that for £250 more, you can get the same Macbook Pro 16" chassis but with M1 MAX processor, 32GB and 1TB drive from Very as a new customer on credit (20% discount) + potential TCB (8%).

Granted its still not cheap, but if you're already happy to spend £1800, another £250 isn't a great deal more for a much better spec. (edited)

    My experience so far
I’ve got the 1Tb version of this, it’s alright but not worth the RRP money.
Pros: Fans never come on (silent), very well built, lovely screen, battery life
Cons: Sound very boomy to me - not enough top end no eq as with windows laptops disappointed when you read the hype of six speakers blah, blah, blah
    Some Apps slow loading
Can’t record straight from sound card i.e. audacity has to pick-up from mics!
I use Ipads and love them. The sound is better on my Ipad Pro than this.

if Apple sorted the sound side of this it would be great (accept the slow apps loading) not sure why as seems fast enough when up and running, just loading.
    PS Costco are great! (edited)

Have a look at Soundflower. Admittedly, my macbook is a lot older than yours, but works on mine. (edited)

Too make everyone here aware, the price is down to £1700. You could probably update the price OP.

Either the 14” is more popular, or they mis-judged how many 16” they will sell. Costco seems to still have quite a few of these lying around in the warehouse (edited)

Anyway of upgrading the SSD, or are you screwed two years down the line when you realise what you have is not enough?
    plewis00's avatar
    plewis00
No, just external drives really. The SSD is onboard ‘for security’.

Got one few weeks ago for other half. Blown away by battery so much and lack of heat/fans compared to my i9 64gb I ordered one myself. Battery is brilliant even though im running an external hard drive for the OS.

Tempted to pay an extra £100 for this one over the newly announced Mac Book air 15’ (would upgrade RAM to 16GB) (edited)
