You should be able to cancel that we used to buy going down to purser and telling them to delete it. We gave tips to who we wanted to

Cruise around Britain.. I think I'd stay on the ship

I'm from Belfast and you should see the cruise ship dock... A big tent in the middle of a coal unloading dock in the real industrial zone... It is a joke I don't know why they never built a nicer area after all this time.

Wait so London's port is Southampton? Quite a stretch of geographic imagination imho

Nobody outside UK has ever heard or wanted to go to Southampton

Nice one just booked the all you can drink cruise for me.

Any similar offers going for the missus?
    innocent's avatar
It is very broadminded of you to let your missus go solo for 10 nights. Those uncharted waters can be rough at times 🌊

    Cheaper than a weeks rent

You probably meant as a joke, but in london you could well spend £1000 on a room, £300 on council tax and utilities, entertainment and broadband and then £200 a month on food.

£1500 for a month, exc travel

£481 for 10 nights, under £1500 for equivalent of 30. And you get to have fun, not sat in some mouldy house share in zone 3 (edited)

Nice one. Just lay back and enjoy "solo" for 10 nights! . No running round looking for food as it is "Full board"!

Have to say the quality of advice on the cruise threads is one of the highest on HUKD.
    jnm21's avatar
Just to add, wow, Ryanair would be proud of that stretch!

Really tempted by this... as a solo traveller. Never been on a cruise before but never seen a lot of the UK (including Scotland and Northern Ireland) and Ireland before. Haven't used any annual leave so far this year!

So for £671 I will get the cruise, 3 meals a day (presumably if you go on an excursion they may make some kind of packed lunch available to take with you?), wifi (150 mins a day from the sound of it in a previous comment), alcoholic drinks for when I'm watching any entertainment they have on in the evenings and the excursion vouchers?

I've had a quick look on the link for any additional info, but can't find some answers on some things. Questions:

    1) Any parking suggestions for at Southampton?
    2) The excursion vouchers - it doesn't seem 100% clear which Ports do/do not have excursions. Do all of them? Per description it would seem that
    - Newhaven doesn't (can walk around at your leisure?)
    - Invergordon you can go to either a Distillery or Loch Ness
    - Kirkwall you can go to Earl's palace, a distillery or WW1 wrecks
    - Belfast is titanic museum or Giant's causeway
    - Greenock - dunbarton castle
    - Dublin doesn't (as with Newhaven, seems to suggest you can just do your own thing?)
    - Cork doesnt (similar to Dublin above, seems you can just explore yourself)
    - Portland, perhaps the lighthouse is an excursion
    3) Is it reasonable to expect the $50 excursion vouchers would cover the costs, or reasonably would expect to have to top up with own money to meet the full cost?
    4) Sounds like they add a service charge? I may have to pay this before departing? But I can get this refunded/removed once on the boat?
    5) Coronation Bank holiday on the 8 May could affect the excursions at Kirkwall I suppose? If I wanted to watch any coverage I suppose there will be TVs with terrestrial tv channels available in rooms and lounge areas etc?

    6) More generally - anyone else done a similar cruise before, how did you find it?

On further investigation I have found a list of excursions available on the official NCL website. Hopefully the link works - Here

They are very pricey. There seems to be none that specifically refer to either Loch Ness at Invergordon or Giant's Causeway at Belfast (unlike the Seascanner descriptions). Some okay priced ones e.g. Dublin on Your Own (£64) and Cork City on Your Own (£40) which shouldn't be too bad after $50 voucher however the limited descriptions suggest these are really just inflated transfers from the Port to central locations for you to then go off and do your own thing and presumably return to be picked up later. Potentially cheaper (even after the $50 excursion voucher) to just book your own taxi/uber from the port once you arrive. They have a Guinness one in Dublin for £96, which after voucher may be okay compared to own taxi and bog standard entry price.

Hmmm not as exciting as it would seem then! (edited)

Is there good internet? I could spend a couple of weeks "working" from a cruise ship 😁
    Clowie's avatar
I'm thinking exactly the same thing with these cheap holiday deals! If the WiFi is ok then just work from the ship and enjoy the evenings.

How does NCL compare to MSC/P&O?

Also, just out of curiosity. If the likes of MSC and P&O are like Ryan Air ( As some people on here say. Ive never been) what cruise companies are more premium and more luxurous?
    Neil49's avatar
Try Silversea or Regent 7 Seas.

May not have the weather, but our coastline is actually beautiful in many parts. Presuming it sails close enough so you get a decent view.

The main issue I have with staycations is the cost of F&B is normally punitive for pretty average food We did the new forest for a long weekend and when I looked at the cost it wasn't far off a week away at a long haul destination. Worse still it was mostly average pub/restaurant fare. A ploughman's and couple of beers at a pub sets you back north of £50 in many tourist destinations.

Doing these destination via FB cruise may actually be the best way to go IMO. (edited)

    This is a bargain,

if you like a drink add the Free at Sea for £199, get a few other bit including a speciality meal( I Value at £30) a bit of wifi (£0) shore ex $50 off at every port but most are overpriced (covers a shuttle bus) best to DIY all the ports

    Optional Grats/service is £155pp

Still a bargain if you stump up for both.
  27. getmore4less's avatar
Parking the super cheap options will be full so west quay multi story £5day

if you need hotel, then there are hotel park options.
nearest is Ibis/Novotel 10min walk to terminal.(£120 with parking)

The 14th May and the NCL Star on 11th May round Ireland should also be no solo.

    Its finding the discounts

Anyone booked on these dates, that wants to meet up, give me a shout. We’ll try and get a group going on the first evening. No ‘Solo’ tables for dinner organised. So it would be great to head in together.
