Retailers are extending their return policies for Christmas: Full List of Shops Extending Returns Policies for Christmas

Seems to have been this price for a couple of days but thought it was worth posting as its the cheapest I've seen in Wickes for a while. Longer lengths are better value per metre but this length fits in my car so no delivery charges (or sawing up in the car park).

3m and 3.6m lengths also reduced.

ok for the odd length but if you want a serious amount, over £100 (usually get free delivery) then timber merchants may be better, depending on where you live, though the good ones usually don't quote their prices online so a bit of a pain.

50086357-j6j6j.jpgStill cost more than the normal price of my local timber yard.

Good for those who are close to a Wickes but not a timber yard, but definitely worth checking around. Especially if you're buying a few

I do find Wickes wood can be quite hit and miss with quality, but if you know what you're looking for, you'll be fine.

Cheap for a shed store, but you can likely get it cheaper in local builders as timber prices in shed stores are silly expensive in general

    Wrong. Bad info.

A bit of a noob here, what do I need to create garden troughs, can I use a couple of these to build one or should I use decking boards just like those YT videos?
    faceache's avatar
My inexpert observation is grooved decking boards in contact with soil generally rot quicker more catastrophically than approximately similar smooth pre-treated wood. The grooves are great to grip & run off water & re-treat when used as decking but for other uses a weakness. If on flagstones consider zinc troughs - no maintenance sell them on (not easy but doable) for what you paid+ after you are finished with them.

Why is wood smaller than it used to be? Once upon a time when you went to buy a piece of 3 by 2 or 4 by 2 that’s what you got, even in metric. 45mm is not two inch anymore.
    manowarbruno's avatar
it was always like that, a piece of rough lumber would be cut in 2x4 but then after drying and planing the actual size is always less

1 ordered 10 of these to collect and they gave me c24 instead of c16
    james_jew's avatar
I also got C24 delivered. £7.20 ea delivered for 40x 3.6m lengths. Timbers yards won’t even come close to that price regardless of what the shills say in other posts. With zero proof to back it up. (edited)

Good price for the 95mm but the 145mm hasn’t came down yet. Hopefully that goes on sale soon as I’m planning to build some garden decking.

You tried your local builder merchants

I paid an absolute fortune for timber during Covid during my return project good to see timber prices dropping back to some sensible levels.
  13. cantbRssed1's avatar
Would this be ok for timber bearers for a timber deck, or would c24 be better. Strength not an issue as it's resting on a concrete slab (with slate Packers) but didn't know if treatment of c24 is better than c16.
    neil_thoroughgood's avatar
Specs are better on C24, strength and should be less chance of warping.

Is this ok to build some borders in the garden? I’m a DIY noob so any advice would be gratefully accepted
