i bought one of these on a previous deal for £200 with keyboard, they are pretty good i got an absolute minter, also they run w11 even thought the processor isnt officially supported, workd great for me, i get 5 hours run time minimum

Ghost Spectre or Tiny11 run superbly on these.

I purchased one of these pens on Amazon, they work perfectly:

    Stylus Pen, Stylus for Microsoft Surface Pro 8 7 6 5 4 3 X / Surface 3 / Go 4 3 2 1 / Book 4 3 2 1 / Laptop 4 3 2 1 / Studio 2, USB-C Charging, 4096 Pressure Sensitivity

Just warning others, if you return the item for a condition or grading issue, expect them to block you from purchasing in the future - so if you were returning an item (not taking a replacement), planning to get something else from them, you may find yourself unable to. You will then need to ask them by email whether you’re allowed to buy again. This is, of course, at their discretion but worth considering and I don’t think it’s a good way to treat customers.

If you get a good machine out of the box, then no harm.

A retailer that behaves this way is to be avoided at all costs.

I have just been given one of these. Battery is not too bad. It lasts quite a few hours. I’m sure it’s somewhat depleted.
I’d say it’s great for this price for basic computing.
You can pick up some really nice active pens for £30 eg a Rennaisser making this great for art or marking up documents / drawings.

battery, minimum 2 hour stand by.... doesn't sound too good

It bloody isn't, I feel like this is more of clumsy desktop than a laptop, because the damn thing always needs power.

Also the surface Pro 5 is apparently the least upgradable out of the lot, don't expect to do anything because you can't!

Bought this when it was last on sale, my battery had 328 cycles and ~30,000 capacity which wasn't too bad. Runs W11 fine.

Be aware, some of these are ex-corporate devices and have had some heavy use. I'm having to send mine back as the screen was covered in white blemishes. At least they're sending me a replacement device which will hopefully be in better condition.

Edit: The replacement unit came today. Battery only has 37 cycles and general device condition looks almost perfect aside from a white blemish in the bottom corner which I can live with. (edited)

Wish it was 8th gen intel inside
    plewis00's avatar
You want the Pro 6 or above then.

Bought one last year. Been doing fine as back up laptop. Added case, stylus and Bluetooth keyboard. Battery maybe 3 hours. Very happy

Any idea how this screen is for viewing magazines on (via Readly) ? I hear it has a 3:2 screen. Is this better for viewing magazines than the screen on the Honor 8 Pad 12" ? Thanks.
    JustmemyselfandI's avatar
Don't think Readly is available on Windows, though suppose you could install an android emulator.

Bought one before from here on similar deal, battery had zero charge. Only usable plugged in. Wouldn't touch again.

It’s now 17th almost 18th May. Still not dispatched from ordering a week ago. They messaged back to say latest eBay date for dispatch is 22nd May but they try to dispatch before then . Much slower dispatch time from when bought from them before . Hoping wait will be worth it …anyone else still waiting
    swingler2010's avatar
mine arrived today, couple of marks on edges and back but very minor, screen is perfect, 78% of original battery life remaining, im happy with it

Think this is the Portsmouth based firm. I have bought 2 Surface Pro 5 Pro with 8 gb RAM and 256 SSD about 189 each. Sent second one back as 512 cycles on battery. Collected and replaced very quickly. Replacement had 82 cycles, very pleased with machines. Excellent phone service. At the command prompt, type powercfg /batteryreport, then press Enter. The battery report will be an HTML file that's stored in a folder on your PC.
    plewis00's avatar
Yes they are based in Portsmouth (aka Solent Laptops, Grab-A-Laptop) but someone said that’s only an address not where they actually operate from. Not sure of that myself, I thought it was all Portsmouth-based.

With these battery disclaimers, you can be sure this isn't genuinely refurbished. There's a difference between selling a cleaned up device and one that has been actually refurbished. Had this been in proper refurb condition, this would have been a great deal.
    plewis00's avatar
They're not - these devices are basically impossible to open without damage. Also eBay refurbished guidelines say 80% or more battery health but most Surfaces of this era will still hold charge but many are under 70% now, you can use CMD -> powercfg /batteryreport then divide the two capacity numbers x100% to get the 'health'. In fairness, I think the 80% is more to do with phones than laptops/tablets but it's worth considering. If a Surface Pro is 2 hours battery life minimum, it will be down to 50-60% original capacity.

The blame is with eBay for having a skewed definition of 'refurbished' but this is now industry-wide and often a good, used device is better than a poorly refurbished one with cheap non-OEM parts.

Try Gumtree. i took a chance and got genuine NEW BOXED Microsoft keyboard which is also cover for £50

Much safer if seller near you so you can see it. maybe take your Surface along to check
I live in sticks and gambled A few times luckily OK

Just received mine. Can anyone recommend if I should upgrade this to windows 11 (and how, considering it’s not supported) or if I should just keep it as Windows 10 pro? Thanks
  15. shabbauk's avatar
Was tempted to get one for plane use, just to watch films on and maybe a bit of Xbox cloud gaming at hotels (where I'd have wifi and power source). Assume it's a good choice for that for the money?
Also handy to watch sky-go around the house to have the football on in the garden/background when not near a tv.
    plewis00's avatar
It’s probably overkill if it’s mostly for media consumption as an iPad or Android tablet can do all that and consume less power. The biggest concern with the Surface Pro is poor battery life as it’s a full-blown computer.

I bought a Surface Pro 5 from this deal the other week when they were £139.99.
It took a while to arrive (but still by the ebay stated date). The device is excellent - great condition. Superb tablet pc. The battery is around 70-80% capacity according to the Windows power report.
I did ask for a good condition one in the ebay order comments, not sure if this is worth anything or not!
    Sp0oner's avatar
Nope they wont check/look for you they sell hundreds of each item they are all boxed ready to ship its pure luck of the draw as to what condition you get.

My battery only has 24 cycles, yet the battery capacity is only 33,000mWh? I have tried draining the battery several times.
    plewis00's avatar
Probably just age-related wear. What is the design capacity? Around 45Wh for that system?
  18. arronc's avatar
Anyone got any recommendations for a cheap keyboard?
    creepyg's avatar
CEX have the official type-cover for £20 (grade B).

The one i received was immaculate (though i never used it as i cancelled the tablet....)

i think the surface pro got voted the world's hardest tablet to do battery or parts repairs even harder than ipad:
    ifixit.com/tab…ity
50147466-z6nax.jpg So the battery better be brand new or yer pooped.
    regcar's avatar
Agree about battery, but does this machine need upgrading. 256GB and 8 GB RAM enough for ordinary stuff, not games.

50151360-V0vFM.jpgHi everyone, this battery report is for my newly purchased pro 5.
Will this be good for normal use?
    greg666's avatar
1/3 is gone meaning you have to charge more often but it will not influence the performance just the time you can use it before charging
  21. 773633536's avatar
Having used this for a week, I have to say what's impressive about this is that it is fanless or so it seems. It's very difficult to find a high-performance laptop that doesn't have fans.
    plewis00's avatar
It's not that high-performance as it can thermal throttle and it's a contributor to battery wear and tear as the heat gets trapped inside the casing more than the actively cooled ones.
  22. gfox66's avatar
Bought on the previous deal - so far so good. Battery could obviously be better, and I'm usually a Mac os or Android user so wasn't sure about going back to Windows, but it's handy for the price.

Mine is very good condition (other than battery wear).
  23. Tony_coles's avatar
Mine had 832 on the cycle count.

Great machine, but i sent it back with this in mind
    plewis00's avatar
Do you know the health? They will probably block you for that then - though they will refund you no questions asked. They say minimum 2 hours standby which it might have done.
  24. unuspromulti's avatar
Mine has 720 cycles but 37k of battery and I got over 6 hours of light browsing out of it on first rundown. Put W11 on it and it’s performing great.

For anyone who picked this up and is looking for a stylus, the Raphael 520 seems to be up at Amazon in various colours, starting from £23.99 when applying (tick box) the 20% promo voucher:

After watching a reasonably positive review from down under it seems to be worth a shot.

As for the tablet, my bespoke torture test was to charge it fully and leave it overnight playing a fullscreen 10-hour YouTube clip on maximum brightness. After plugging in and waking it up it the next day it managed 4h22m of playback before sleeping.

Reddit's Surface Pro 2017 i7 Battery - 6.5 Hours (Realistic Test) post from five years back suggested 6.5 hours under similar conditions, so it's far from perfect but should be good enough.

Anyone know if this has a mic input via the headphone jack ?

I'm wanting to use an external usb sound card so I can connect my guitar and use Guitar rig but for some reason I'm getting loud static/interference ( works perfectly fine on my desktop and old laptop)
  27. KrispiiDuck's avatar
Just collected mine - condition looks great.
    Battery report:
    Full Charge capacity 30180mWh/45000 x100 = 67%

    Cycle count 226

Does that seem Ok please? (edited)
