    If you're playing outdoors, its worth checking out air shuttles like these -

    If you're a casual player (not know how to smash etc), its worth trying out Yonex Mavis 300 or 2000s (78 speeds for UK generally, ie blue banding) as they have a nice flight path (not too far away from feathers).
    If you know how to smash and you get picky about how the plastic spins/wobbles in the air because its nicked here and there- you need to move onto feathers, cost wise its not too far away moving from plastics to feathers once you demand that standard from a shuttle.
    Of course theres another learning curve to feathers, at the beginning you will break many coming from plastics... (edited)

    I found the Mavis 600 to be good comprimise between the 300 and 2000. They fly a lot better than the 300 for not much more price whereas the 2000 is usually quite a bit more expensive.
